I created this video with the RU-vid Video Editor ( / editor ) This plane has a nice running Laser 100 engine, wich runs with 80% Methanol, 15% Syntetic oil and 5% Nitro.
Awesome video!!! I just uploaded my video I made like yours. 😃 I mounted mine to the seat and it shook like something crazy. I'm gonna remount it from the top down. I have a full scale J-3 Cub that belongs to my Gandaddy. He bought it back in 1963 and we still have it in the family. 😀👍🏼
This is the best video I have seen with both views of from inside cockpit & from the ground. That was real nice flying also at a real nice field. Keep up the good work!.
Hi NC88073, you should get an award as scale master flyer! The way you keep the level of the horizon steady and the aproaching speed looks like the 1:1! Congrats! Question: at maiden did you have to trim much or came out pretty balanced? I am asking this because I am close to my maiden and I have not been flying for 5 years and I think I can handle it but I was curious about trim since that is my mayor concern after such long time to de rust my fingers! Cheers Alex
Hi Alex. Thanks for the comment! I had to put about 150 - 200 grams in the nose, but did not need to trim anything. Remember that a Cub can be a little bit "tricky" and require the ability to fly with both aileron and rudder simultaneously at same time. A J3 Cub should NOT have differential ailerons by contrast, a SuperCub have. Good luck with your flight! ;-)
NC88073 Thanks for your kind answer. Yes indeed I had in the past the Carl Golberg J3 40 size and pretty much needed rudder flying. Since I am rusted I was thinking in may be mixing some rudder while not landing or taking off just to cheat a little bit my flying but do not know if this is a good idea. Today I was braking in my Saito FG21 and the weather is so hot here in Kuwait to fly (47C) so guess I will need to wait to September... Cheers! Alex
probably the best scale camera work I have ever seen. Some videos in real cubs aren't as good as this one.. Something majical about the way your video turned out,not to mention your a good flyer.Thx for sharing ,,,,,,,,,
I have hundreds of hours logged in J3 cubs with over 450 take off and landings, most solo from the back seat. I owned five J3 Piper Cubs over the years. That flight was very much like full scale. Very nice scale take off and landings. Nice flight and turns too. I really enjoyed the ride. I was an avid R/C model builder and pilot prior to going full scale tail draggers. Good job! Thanks
Hi bsmk89. Thanks for the comment! Sorry, I don´t remember the settings I do on the GoPro camera. I just placed the GoPro camera on the original GoPro mount on upper balsa shelf behind the pilot. For your info, a J3 Cub pilot sits in the rear seat in the cockpit behind the passenger.
And how do you upload your videos to where they will be full HD1080p? When I upload mine from my PC RU-vid seems to crush the quality of the video a TON. 😏 Thanks!
I did a similar flight but in 1990. Sig 1/4 scale Cub with OS Pegasus. Over water from floats and a chase plane. Never posted the file as it was on 8mm tape.
Very nice flying. I did the same thing and it was just as nice to see the world from an airplane. , I'm number 642 thumbs up. the thumbs down just don't have a clue.
Not quite perfect: 1) The rain drops on the windscreen are too large (suface tension of the water not to scale). 2) The instruments do not work properly. Only joking, that was great work.
Excellent inflight point of view filming. Take another, but this time, perform aerobatics to add some zing to the footage. Not a criticism of this video...
have you done any spins with it? Have you noticed any nasty spin tendencies? about to fly my 100 inch and I like aerobatics but my dad said the cubs hes flown have a bad spin tendency to not recover.
hi. ive seen a show or too. and seen many videos. please give youre self a LARGE pat on the back. i think its the best in flight video ive ever seen all the best .. tone uk
Now that is Very Cool!! I have the Phoenix Models 1/5 Scale Piper Cub, And a GOPRO Hero Camera. Would love to modify a Window or something to get my camera in and out In a Secure Position Velcroed!!! Hmmmmmmm!! Now you got me thinking!! Lol
NC880173 : That yellow Cub Flight Video Is THE BEST ONE I HAVE EVER WATCHED !!! You made me feel as though I Were Back Inside Of A Real Airplane Again. I can No Longer Fly The Real Thing Because Of For Neck Fusion Surgeries I Have Had. THANKS FOR THE MEMORY. Post More Like That One. Please !!!
Ok I have to say first of all, I vertically never comment on videos but this time I had to. I have a commercial pilots license and I have also been flying RC fixed wing as well as helicopters for decades. I have also flown a full size Piper Cub as well as a Super Cub and watching this video is the closest thing to being in the cockpit I have ever experienced. Really well done, thanks so much for sharing.
I have a 1/4 scale Cub, now I know where I'm placing My FPV Camera, that's an awesome Plane You have there, Great Flight, Great Video! Kudos too You m8! :D
I tried this with my clipped wing Cub and my GoPro and the camera interfered with my radio and caused it to crash. People have told me that it won't do that, even though they are on the same frequency. When I looked at the footage, there's me putting the camera in the plane, taxiing and then nothing until the jumble of broken plane and me walking up to it.
Should have processed the audio! Take the file and convert the video to a sound file and use an audio program to add filters like soften and re e.q. and lower the volume! Then using movie maker or something like it add the processed sound file back in and synced!
Very nice job of flying and filming , that grass runway is really nice! This cub has a very nice presence that makes it stand out from the other cubs I have been looking at. I may have to start saving my lunch money for one! Happy New Year Ya'll!
Being a comm. pilot with lots of time in the cub, I can say this is one of the best inflight vids I have ever seen . Well done! You have demonstrated a realistic flight and the view it would look like in the real plane.
What a ride! Sure is spacious inside, I felt like I could lean back, put my feet up and enjoy the ride. Very very nice view from the aft seat. Thank you. Lovely model.
Really excellent video, beautiful plane and great flying - the landing was perfect. 9.5/10 - you lose half a point as not long enough!! Thanks for sharing - more please!
Nice flyght, I though that I was in the real thing, very realistic. I am planning start with shipper eletric model, with foam and all that crap, but you and your plane is my goal of achievement !
Absolutely beautiful flight and video! I was checking videos to see how much vibration others were getting in their nitro/gas videos, and I think that this here just convinced me it's not as much of a problem as my electric-only bias originally made me think :) thanks for posting this, I feel better about my new Saito four-stroke purchase
Great video . . try getting a doll removing the head and replacing it with camera and a servo to camera tilts when plane banks could also make it so have a real moving stick as well
Very nice vid and great flying, I have a pa 1/4 scale hanger 9 cub and I think I'll try running a go-pro in mine after watching this vid, I love that feeling of really being in the plane, along for the ride, thanks for posting.
That was very well done! To my mind it felt very authentic. I think the wider angle lens made the whole experience seem much more real along with the slow lazy turns and minimal banking.
Hi Frank. Here are some answer on your Q´s. Q: Did the Laser 100 take... A: No, it´s very easy to setup a Laser 100 Engine. Q: Do you have to adjust... A: No, only once Q: You talk of running 15% synthetic oil... A: This engine isn´t a petrol engine. I use 80% Methanol, 15% Motul synthetic oil and 5% Nitro. Q. How well does the... A: This aircraft weighs about 7.4 kg fully fueled and the engine thrust is about 4.3 kg with a 15x8 propeller. Q: How would you compare... A: High wing
Awesome video! Plane sounds very realistic with gas power. Did the Laser 100 take much setting up? Do you have to adjust fuel/air mixture much each time out? You talk of running 15% synthetic oil and 5% nitro-I presume rest of fuel is 98 octane petrol or greater! I fly a E-Flite Apprentice (electric), and have never had much to do with gas power so all new. How well does the quarter scale fly-any traits? How would you compare flying it to say the average r/c plane like mine-high wing?
