I just completed the Sundowner 50 build video that I wanted to share with everyone. I hope you enjoy and feel free to ask questions and comment. Thanks for viewing.
That sounds sweet, glad you ordered one, you will like it.. When you get it let me know. I'm excited for you LOL can't wait for you to see her in person.. Thanks for the comment.
Nice plane. A friend of mine at our field has a little larger one Nitro powered. It's been clocked at 140mph with a GPS. the other day he was doing full speed passes down the runway and did a touch a go and as soon as the wheels hit the runway they blew apart lol. So he had to land on a bare wheel pant but there wasn't much damage.
Yes, a DLE 20 would make this airplane move, awesome choice.. maybe a DLE 30 would fit but not sure.. Good luck and let me know how it goes.. Thanks for commenting .Tim
@wolfysylbla Great Question Yes you are correct I'm using that set up. I'm using a 6 cell 40c and a 14 x12 APC prop flight time is good she will hit about 103MPH if you run in out long runs. also can run on 8 cell as well.. Good luck and feel free to ask more..TIm
Hi Tim, I should be finishing my build today. What master airscrew prop should I go with ?? I kinda don't like the "gray" apc's !! Unreal thrust with this motor !! Thanks buddy. My next project will be the precision aerobatics bandit. It comes out this summer. I sent you an email about a thrust 40 equivalent in a turnigy motor for the bandit.... Any ideas ?
To rcredbaron, you need a smaller diam. prop with more pitch to get high speeds in these fast electric prop planes.. the 17x8 prop you listed would actually be slower by about 30mph!
Hi tinkermanrc.. looks nice, just ordered mine. going with the Kontronik 502 set on 5s 3700mah rhino's 11x11 prop not massive power but with that prop hoping for some speed (700watts) GL with maiden
i installed a turnigy tr50-55-400 (becaruse ot the great reviews) on a 6 cell with a 14x8.5 prop. the plane itself flies great, a little dissapointed with the top speed. everything is running quite cool maybe i need to stress it out with more aggressive prop. i have a parkzone p-51d mustang with a turnigy sk35-36-1400 on a 4cell with a 10x8 prop that just rips. let me know how the eflite 90, 12x12 works out.
@123RCUK Your right and thanks for the comment and great advice and great points will do.. Again thanks for the kind words as well... Stay tuned LOL Tim
Great question You may loose a little speed but again it just depends on how may cells you run and what prop you use. The 600 KV motor will turn 13200 RPMs the 580 KV will trun 12760 RPMs just to give you some idea.. the 580 would be a excellent choice. Let put it to you this way. I had to cut the prop down on mine but with the 580KV you can run the APC 12x12 out of the box with no mods.. Choices HMMM hope this hepls.. let me know how it goes.
@8888hayden Great question I get them from hobby City and they hold up fine have several flights on the model with no issues, thanks for commenting and visiting,,Tim
Great question... It depends on how you manage the throttle , I had her up for 6 minutes on my first flight. if you just cruse you can stay up a while. Thanks for commenting. .
Great Question.. I have really no other reason other then I like electric. Gas engines can cost a great amount, If I had to say why its a little cheaper to go with electric. Thanks for the cool comment .
very nice plane, had a chance to win one buuuttttt, someone else got it, I did win a t-28 trojan bnf from parkzone, its a micro but i'm happy with it...........still would like to have won the sundowner, hehe
What Prop are you using?? Size? It looks like a Master Airscrew for Nitro Engines? For max speed on a 6cell with that Turnigy, you really want an APC 17x8 for speed. If you are using a Nitro Prop, it will be heavier and slow your RPMs. But I cant see the prop really well.
Hi Tim, do you think there will be a big difference in speed if any between the turnighy 50-55 600kv (gold motor) vs. the turnigy sk series 50-55 580kv ?? I think the sk series use better bearings ? It's slightly higher in price but I don't want to lose top speed....what do you think ? I want this plane as fast as possible....maybe even a different motor... should I just stick with the 50-55 600kv ??
well i was thinking of getting this same plane for my next project and was trying to decide if i wanted to go nitro or electric. my parkzone p-51 is electric and dosent last very long. lol
@yankphan100 Well if you have the 50-55 600 kv motor and you want speed try the 12X10 12x12 cut down to 11X12 and If you can use the APC props,, If you dont have this motor and you have the 400KV one the 12X12 Apc Good luck with your choices just make sure you run the motor and check the amp draw.. Oh yes I will look that up and get back to you Sorry for the delay.. Soon Tim
I noticed you did not cut out the vent holes as recommended in the manual. Have you experienced any adverse effects due to this (overheating, etc)? I am currently in the middle of building and do not want to cut the giant hole in the bottom of the fuselage. Thanks.
I did not have any heat problems, there was enough air flow through the cowl from the gaps on the side . I did not run the ESC to its max with this set up.. Good luck with yours she is a nice flyer.. Thanks for commenting ..Tim
TinkerManRC Thank you for the quick response! I already cut the holes in the front, so I might not be able to get away with not cutting the hole in the bottom. One other question, did you ever have to modify the insides to get the battery in? I have a 6 Cell 40C 5000mah Zippy FlightMax, but I cannot get it past some of the balsa to get it into the batter compartment. Thanks!
Hi Tim, do you think there will be a big difference in speed if any between the turnighy 5-55 600kv (gold motor) vs. the turnigy sk series 50-55 580kv ?? I think the sk series use better bearings ? It's slightly higher in price but I don't want to lose top speed....what do you think ? I want this plane as fast as possible....maybe even a different motor... should I just stick with the 50-55 600kv ??
