Hi Daniel, great to see you back on videos! I appreciate your views on China and geopilitics, even if I find you sometimes overpassionate or overfiring. But travel vlogs are great too! Actually I find they serve a double purpose: first we can travel from home and discover nice places and people in China. But also we see by ourselves what the situation is actually like right now. For instance I could see in this video that in this Tibetan area of Sichuan, people are developing businesses and integrating the local population, by capitalizing on the touristic potential of Route 318. It 's the same with other travel vloggers in China, whether they be foreign (KatherinesJourneyToTheEast...)or Chinese (AaronLiu...). Even vloggers who do not utter a single word and whose face is unknown such as WalkEast offer very valuable filterfree views on China. I discovered you through your videos in Tibet, such as the one visiting the former noble house or the one in the local middle school. They were eye opening, because I had no idea had been a serf-based theocracy, and I thought 'Communist China' had forbidden and wiped out Tibetan culture and Tibetan language totally. Or another stunning video was with your CyberGirl friend in Shenzhen: I discovered how open minded and tolerant Chinese can actually be. Just keep showing China as it is, as diverse as it is, because we need it, please.
@ameliah8164
@ameliah8164 2 года назад
The western media will only tell you that those religious leaders were forced into exile, but few people know that they were really autocratic religious rulers by relying on slavery and exploiting the ordinary Tibetan people. It was not until the founding of new China that people there lived a relatively free life. I am a Chinese. I have traveled to Xinjiang and Tibet. Many old people there hang Mao Zedong's portrait or embroidery at home. As Chinese, we all know that our history for thousands of years has always tended to national unity and national integration. CCP has inherited the tradition in this respect. CCP is a typical Confucian government (removing the dross and leaving the core). Although people exaggerated the dross during the Cultural Revolution (it has now returned to normal), it is undeniable that the Chinese still have the typical Confucian thought in their bones and like harmony.

My jaw dropped on seeing a trailer park in Tibet. Of course such trailer park can exist in China but such well equipped, spacious and well coordinated in such a large scale is an eye opener. This means Tibet must have a developed tourist industry catered for the cars and trailers. The nicest surprise is the place is managed by the Tibetans who are getting richer and wealthier. It is far cry from the Dalai Lama days when serfdom was practised by the big land owners. Dalai Lama has done one good thing for the Tibetans and that is he brought serfdom with him to India where it could mix well with the caste system there. It is quite ingenious to develop the tourist industry in Tibet because the province has outstanding natural beauty, space as it has very low population and poor agricultural potential due to high altitude and low oxygen. In the Europe the people built a skiing industry with similar condition if it is reasonably snow-sure, like Italian Via Latte (Milky Way) Dolomite, Austrian SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental, Ski Amade, Ski Arlberg , French Tarentaise Valley with 3-Valleys, Paradiski and Escape Killy, Switzeland has its own 4 Vallee and Silvetta Arena..... After the recent Beijing Olympic winter sport in China could take off and Tibet must have many places suitable for sport in winter and camping, mountaineering in summer.

@@davidredei7729 I went by the title of the video. I went Eurocamping for many years and know well enough of the standard of trailer parks and camp sites in UK and Europe. I still say the trailer park in the video an eye opener because not many people know Tibet has changed so much. I have visited China a few time and am aware of their travelling industries. Tibet has developed a lot fast than I thought. I am please to see it has been the Tibetans who have been mostly benefited economically. China in 1988 was poorer than every African country except two (Uganda and Bissau Guinea). Tibet today is the the poorest province in China. Sichuan has fared a lot better because it has some world class hydro station with output double the Three Gorges. These hydro plus the Three Gorges can supply electricity for the entire UK!

High altitude/low temperature environments can sometimes pose problems for owners of diesel powered motors so electric vehicles are a sensible alternative. Sounds like this is the Garze Tibetan area out Kangding way. Going westward from Kangding to Chola mountain you see Tibetan inscriptions on river rocks and sometimes those mesmerising Tibetan eyes. It's slow going on a public bus and would be a terrific road trip in a private vehicle, stopping overnight from place to place.

Daniel, I have so much appreciated your videos since the HK issue. I've been a teacher of English & Geography in NZ and taken tours of about 20 people, to China. Your video of about a year ago, is I think so good I would like a transcription - or write it myself. My wife and I have 6 children: from an old fella, look after your family. And then, feed us as best you can! I endorse all the comments below.

This is so wonderful and exhilarating to see! I was in Tibet for 9 days in 2001. It's really heartening to see developments headed by Tibetan entrepreneurs like this. Love it! Missed your videos and can't wait to watch your next video!

Wow, I could not stop smiling through this whole video -- what an incredible place. I've never been to Tibet, but it certainly reminded me a bit of Nepal when the locals would trickle down from the mountains, lanterns like beads on a necklace, and join us for evening gatherings, often outnumbering the travelers and making it a *real* party :)

Beautiful Tibet... The govt has done a lot to turn this previously mostly rural and under developed land into a modern yet culturally authentic place

Douyin has many Tibetan dance performance on the street videos, must be very popular across China. Tourists putting on Tibetan clothes to learn dance steps with the locals would be a holiday trip highlight.
