I now have a deep desire to meet Phil Anselmo and tell him how great of a man he is. He went from an asshole who's got everything to prove, and nothing to lose, to a very well defined, respectable, mature dude. Hats off to yah.
Say what you want about him, he really is a fascinating guy to listen to. He does seem like the kind of guy you could have the deepest, most meaningful conversation with. He is probably the kind of guy who never lets his friends down and would do anything for you if you mean something to him. Much respect.
My dad told me about this video, and I didn't think that Phill (screaming, roaring and giving the middle finger) would be doing yoga and talking to ducks. It just goes to show that people can appreciate the good fortune they have had and help the younger bands trying to make a place for themselves. Good on ya Phill.
Phil man, you are a huge inspiration, i'm 21 and blew a disc in my back when i was 19 loading lumber. 2 years later and it still feels like i wake up in a car wreck every morning. Was stoned on painkillers for a while till i got fed up and decided to take reality as it was. People who don't have chronic back pain should consider themselves very blessed.
This guy is awesome, Im happy to see him in such better shape and more personable then 10 years ago. I met him, and he was a really down to earth nice guy.
of course he is! i dont care about what he said in dimebash... He looks very friendly it would be great meeting him.... He's not a monster, he's a guy like us
Wickle Pinksnout Sorry, my english is not the best. Fuck vinnie he hasn't even got the balls to talk to phil in Person . I think Phil is a great Person, yeah he did some dumb things in the past but his Problem is that he sometimes doesn't think about that what hes saying and vinnie is judging phil for things phil doesn't even ment to say. That's my opinion.
This is my favorite interview with Phil, it shows how much he has matured over the years and how optimistic he is about life despite all he has been through. Especially after the Heroin addiction, losing Dimebag, and having to carry the burden for that even though he had nothing to do with Dime's murder. Phil is a genuine artist and I got nothing but respect for the man and admire him and his music.
This Is one of THE best interviews I ever seen with Phil Anselmo. His very down to earth, up close and personal here. And I love him for that. Take care Phil, we love ya!
I am sitting here in pain from my knee, lower back and ankle damage in my left leg but i am listening to Phil and you know what,i am somewhat content listening too what he says. Every time i am down and out,i mean out...of my script,i listen to the Loyola interview & think yeah man i can do this. Just 1 fucking day at a time, not by choice but by force.
I have had constant pain behind my left eye for years after a sporting accident, interviews with people as hard and as strong as phil help me deal with it, respect to him.
I feel him.....Had a failed fusion surgery and never recovered.....I watch this quite a bit. It is inspring as a Pantera junky and as somebody with chronic pain...........Hard as hell to deal with.
84hendrixnirvana ....I am going into rehab 2mz to come off Methadone! I'm scared and excited at the prospect of "feeling" again after 15 years off Fog!!!!! I'm drawing as much inspiration as I can from this guy!!! 👍🏼
Phil Noble You can do it! I know you can. I was in the same exact situation as yours and Phil's. Don't get me wrong, the path is hard and some days u will want to give up fully but don't. The sickness isn't the worst part. It's the mental part that takes a year or so to feel "normal" again. But think about it, what's a year outta your whole life. You will start to feel extremely depressed and agitated. Just fight through it and if needed, go to a doctor who can help. NOT one who will prescribe more narcotics. But one who can help with relaxing your muscles, sleep and fighting the dreaded depression that comes with it. You can conquer this, i promise... JUST DON'T GIVE UP! MUCH LOVE TO PHIL!!!!
Phil has really bad back problems. They gave him Soma for the pain & it took over his life. He's quit the pills, but the back problems are still there. He's seems to be in a good place. Love what he's doing for young bands.
Phils a top bloke, and this interview really portrays him as the man he is. I met him once 2 years ago when he was performing in DOWN and as he said, his a much more approachable guy than he's made out to be (and possibly that he was during his heroin years). Hopefully get a chance to meet him again someday.
Thats what I experienced... there was a bunch of guys waiting at the bus in the freezing cold after a DOWN show. At first he quickly passed us and got on the bus, obviously very tired and highly intoxicated. He told us that he was jsut dropping of his stuff and would be out in a minute. I thought he would never ever step out into the cold again to talk to a bunch of dudes, but he actually did! He took his time, talked to every single one, signed stuff and made some fun. Class dude!
Ive dealt with chronic pain for nine years. Listening to Phil talk about his pain and the horrible drugs and surgeries truly helps me. Hearing him makes me feel like I can beat this someday. Phil, you've saved my ass more than once.
I went in for a handshake and he went total bro hug! I was in such shock and awe, he stood there and talked with me like we had been friends our whole lives. Feeling like I was taking too much of his time, I started to walk away and he grabbed me up for another hug! Best front man ever! Class act, way more gracious than I ever would have expected! Love ya Kid!
It's so awesome to see so many people in the comments saying genuinely good things and really getting to the core of who Phil is. One thing is for sure: he's got a powerful personality, and that is how people need to live their lives - to be an individual, to make up your own mind about things, and to own it and not blame anybody else for your misfortunes. That is why he'd be such a good motivational speaker.
I don't care what people say about Phil, i respect him and what he has written. He and all other 3 members have the privilege to call Pantera one of the greaterst bands in history.
its crazy how he's changed so much over the years..so much more mature now lol...Phil is and will always be a Metal God in my opinion...he changed quite a few generations...turned my life around completely with Pantera..
I've also been through a lot of shit- abuse, addiction, death, loss and so on but I came back from it all. Much like Phil has so it's been awesome 2 watch him over the years. I'm in pain every single day and his music is one of the few things that helps me through it. I just wish I could personally thank him.
The guy that Phil was writing the book with is the same guy who co-funded the House Core Horror Film Festival. That same guy passed away a few months ago. So you can imagine that the book will be delayed a bit. It was supposed to come out in Jan 2015.
Fernando Ramoa considering his co-writer Corey Mitchell died last year... it seems to be in hiatus. I dont think it was even finished at the time either..
Good God man, I have but one wish.....To have a conversation and a ber with Mr, Anselmo.... my greatest vocal inspiration.... but more importantly a true kindred spirit.....
Phil you are my hero since i was a kid, thanks for all the awesome music that you gave us through the years, i saw you live with Down twice and you are already a rock legend. Thanks man really i would die to smoke one joint with you one night.
Great interview. As a longstanding Pantera fan, it's brilliant to see how far Phil has developed his professional and personal skills for longevity. His perspective on life and music is wonderful.
This is such a rare thing to see Phil in his place, talking about his life and stuff. Seriously, the more you watch and listen to this man... the more you'll fucking love him.
Just imagine the musical ingenuity that has originated within that man. I want to just shake his hand, sit and talk with him for a couple hours. This guy has seen a lot of life that some of us will never see.
Much Respect for Phil for his music, what he's gone through to overcome and realize how fortunate he still is. It's cool to hear him talk about his experiences, helping others with what he's good at and it gets him through the day and hard times. AND he's still around! Man I was so close to going to Ozzfest in 2000. My god I missed my chance on seeing PANTERA when I was 16!
" what you put in, you get out" words of wisdom. Phil has his smile back. When that happens with someone like Phil, addict whatever. You don't fear tomorrow. PHILCORE
At my tender age of 38, I have to say I grew up with this guy, Mr. Phil Anselmo, as my idol. I went through Boot Camp in the Navy singing Mouth For War. I went to Japan, and found Down. I know Mr. Anselmo has gone through his bad times; through all that, he still ends up being my musical idol. Mister Phil Anselmo, I hope that one day I could approach you and have a damn god conversation. Crack some jokes and whatnot.
This is THE best interview I have ever saw of Phil! To the poster thanks a million. It's great to see Phil clear headed and deep and raw and emotional. It brings on a new essence to the guy. Awesome!!
Just an all around great guy. Never had a chance to meet him personally but at the Agora in 2003 I saw Down and me n my friends were backstage watching the show, he saw us standing there n nodded to us n smiled, n threw me his water bottle, which I still have. We got kicked out eventually, despite we played that stage ourselves many times, but that is the best memory, not to mention the 4 kickass Pantera shows I've seen and 2 Down shows, Phil is a walking legend. Glad he's better now.
i Could not be more proud to have named my son after this man. Phil u have been king since day one on your lowest moment and your highest. no matter what you do in life dont forget you kick fucking ass
Phil is, honestly, a VERY beautiful man in all regards. He's funny, kind, realistic, and is able to kick his addictions all the way to the moon! You can't easily find people like that nowadays.
Phil is just one of those intriguing cats that I would love to just sit and shoot the breeze with. He seems genuine and sincere and not an egocentric "rockstar" type...may be wrong, but he doesn't come off like that...at least not anymore. Hell, look at his crib... doesn't have anything over the top...just laid back. Phil, you're the man.
