Did you know that the city officially recognized Hanlan’s Point Beach as a historically queer space in Canada, and that Toronto’s queer community has a long, rich history there?
“I came from a really small town and this guy told me like, 'You're never going to believe that there's a whole beach full of LGBT.' I'm like, 'No way, no way.' And then I showed up here and it's true!" says Travis Myers, co-founder of Friends of Hanlan’s.
In partnership with CityNews Toronto, #TheGreenLineTO community producers Julia Lawrence and Amanda Seraphina spoke to Friends of Hanlan's to learn how two new motions adopted by city council will improve and protect the land so that the queer community can enjoy the space for years to come.
