I'm in a prosperous town on the English south coast. Owned the same business since the late '80s. Full order books. Excellent reputation. I can barely keep from going under. Energy costs, the water bills and business rates have increased dramatically and disproportionately. A well-run business can be killed by energy costs, over-regulation and excessive taxation. Thank God I'm approaching retirement.
So sad, I came up to Hanley Theatre Royal in August 1988 for the final showing of the Rocky Horror Show. Fantastic show. So sad to see this deprivation.
Use to drive a van around the stoke about 20 years ago it was looking a bit down hill, went a couple of weeks ago totally how bad Hanley gone and Tunstall is just a empty crumbling high street.
When I think of the name Hanley,I think of a TV presenter called Jenny. She presented a programme called magpie.! Well the town that shares her name is by the looks of it,one for sorrow.! How sad..!
It's a shame, We call it home (even after we've left) BUT from many of the Tube vids about the UK as a whole, its not just Home. Many a building left to Rot, as Landlords(building owners) don't want to invest in There buildings. Just charge over the top rents to screw the Country.
