Funny that Dlugy's story of a student using a mobile device and calling out move suggestions while he was playing Titled Tuesday is exactly the same as how Niemann said it happened when he was 12 (in his Sinquefield interview with Alejandro), he said that he was playing Titled Tuesday and a friend was there calling out suggestions from a device and he was innocently playing the moves.

Just like any cheater - Dlugy is trying to trickle the truth, admitting to a tiny portion of the cheating to get away with the rest. Seems like his student learned from him not only chess, and potentially cheating, but also this exact technique - "I've only cheated twice and only in online tournaments"

This is absurd. Whether Hans cheated or not it's clear the type of people these two are. Everyone who's ever played in any sport or competition knows the type: slippery, shady, totally unscrupulous and insufferable. Will go kicking and screaming the whole way as they are found out, gasping at the audacity of their accuser, clutching their pearls and claiming the moral high ground, only to admit in the end that they simply "wanted it more" and were willing to "do whatever it takes" while, predictably, regretting nothing. They look down on all the poor saps who play by the rules. They are smart, tactical, big brain alpha chads who don't spare a seconds thought for how their actions might degrade the integrity of the game they are so hell bent on winning. I'm not in the chess world but I'll admit this drama is captivating. You only need to hear Hans' many accents to get a glimpse of his motivations. After seeing this video it's clear these two were meant for each other.

As someone who has coached kids in a sports and chess, the fact that Dlugy was willing to 1) violate the rules by having his kids provide moves during Titled Tuesday, and 2) throw said kids under the bus when he gets caught is troubling. As a parent, I would not want my kids anywhere near this guy as a coach. Frankly, I don't buy his whole story. You simply do not have time to have several kids provide moves in a 3+1 game. Now, if it was 1 "kid" (perhaps named "Hans"?) and that kid was standing behind you with a phone running Stockfish and just telling you moves, sure.

I've known cheaters existed, but I didn't know they threaten to sue you if you expose them.

Regardless of whether Hans cheated on his game with Magnus, it's over. I don't think his career will ever recover from this. The reputation of cheater would always follow him now. More players would probably refuse to play with him, and tournaments might stop inviting him. And.. he kind of deserves it. He did it to himself. I don't care if he admits to cheating when he was younger. Countless other young players never cheated, never even thought of cheating. Just because you're young, doesn't mean you get a pass, especially in sports where fairness and sportsmanship are paramount, especially in chess where so many of the top players start as child prodigies. Hans wrecked himself. And although he's catching so much flak, kudos to Magnus for staking his legacy on exposing this huge problem.

Whether or not they are cheating in a particular game, a known cheat has a psychological advantage. It's like being in a fist fight with someone carrying a knife, but assures you he won't use it. This is a big part of Magnus's reasoning I think, and an aspect the defenders of Hans never address.

I'm so glad Hikaru is putting this stuff out there. These are things I've known about (obviously in much less detail) and it's so frustrating seeing countless people talking out their arses who don't know any of this stuff. Thank you Hikaru. I know that you run the risk of getting flamed like everyone was going after Magnus but I really hope the tide is starting to turn on this scenario and people accept that Hans is at the very, very least, highly suspicious.

I don't get it why it would make a difference if the student used a computer or not. It doesn't matter, if someone is suggesting you moves, it's cheating. Doesn't matter how strong the subject is.

It's a bit upsetting that Chesscom will allow a player to multiple chances to stop cheating because said person has won a title. These champion/titled players should be held to a HIGHER standard than the average player.

This whole thing reminds me so much of the Dream speedrunning drama. I did not cheat. But if I did, you have no proof. And if you do, there is reason anyone should believe you. And if there is, it's not serious. Even if it is, it's your fault.

How can anyone feel comfortable playing someone who has previously cheated. All the criticism Magnus has gotten over this now begins to seem somewhat unfair.

There's something important I think they haven't asked Hans Niemann. He has admitted to have cheated twice. But he didn't say which games they were. If Hans did cheat in 2 games as he has admitted, Hans can name those 2 games. His memory is very good i saw in old interviews, such as Youth World Championship 2019, so this can't be a problem. If there are more than 2 games in which he did cheat he will also know them. If the cheating was more intense then he did lie but will nevertheless be able to remember in which tournaments he did cheat. It will not be pleasant for him to name the games where he did cheat but I think it will help to explore statistics in the games of Hans.

I'm a terrible chess player, but I love the game. I would never consider cheating to win. If I win I hope it would be because I have improved.

Once a cheater you should never in any circustance be able to play top chess players ever. That should be a strict law.

Why on Earth would Dlugy *CONTINUE* taking moves from the children, after he notices he's beating GMs left and right with the childrens' help?? This doesn't make any sense at all. The dude just cheated. The children story is just a massive lie. Cheaters will lie to the ends of the Earth and try to blame it on anyone but themselves when they are caught. Edit: Also, why wouldn't Dlugy immediately understand what had happened when he got kicked from the tournament? If he truly had the children calling out moves for him to make, surely anyone would immediately draw the conclusion that the moves the students had called out were cheated. So why did he send an email and act surprised he got kicked for cheating? This just rings so damn false.

I remember the "bobbing with Dlugy" streams back in 2017 or so. Maxim was so good at spotting cheaters, it was incredible.

All those who support Niemann, I think have not realized that this controversy can end chess as we know, because if Niemann wins the cheats will continue and will be more constant in high-level players, that is, the game will never would have credibility again and cheaters would feel in a safe space. The machines would have destroyed our beloved game. :(

I hope the student that was helping Dlugy cheat is Hans so badly! Not because I want him to get punished but because it will make the movie so much better that comes out of all of this! 😂 The storylines developing from this are just incredible.

this just gets crazier with every layer that's peeled back. now we learn that Niemann basically went to a school for cheaters. and yet I can still hear the Hans stans screeching "THIS ISN'T HARD EVIDENCE!!!"

I am absolutely loving this - the "circumstantial evidence" just gets better and better, still no word from Hans. What a reach it is to trust the reigning chess world champion who has no history of cheating.

At this point, I just want to know if Hans did cheat over the board, how did he manage to pull it off? Was it the boring shoe or some sort of ingenious stuff like plastic non metal semiconductor chipped earplugs or something? (I don't know if that could even be made) I do hope that there is some ingenuity in his OTB cheating if he did cheat that is.
