Even today I listen to this magnificent song and I can't help but shed a tear. sublime and wonderful it gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it. that movie was great. totally respectful of the Japanese culture and extolling it as it deserves
One of the few films that gets better with rewatching...best ever performance by TC and the rest of the cast were absolute Perfection. Deserved much, much greater recognition.

Una obra maestra del cine moderno. Tom Cruise muestra su faceta interpretativa más profunda con matices que elevan este film a la categoría de masterpiece. La música, el vestuario, las localizaciones, la fotografía todo en sí es armónico y simétrico como lo es la cultura nipona.
I truly believe that the scene when the wife put the samurai uniform to Tom cruise, is the most erotic, romantic, and so full of different kind of feelings that makes me sometimes hurt and I can’t see. It touches me so hard in my heart and makes me realize the fact that I never had ever imagine that existed that passion. I never had even the smallest percentage that, in my hole life. That’s why hurt’s so much.
The history maybe not be correct, but the storytelling and the perfomances are the bests - one of my all time favourite TC's roles (I miss such deep roles of him).

Always liked this film. Did so many things well. Had Hans Zimmer do the soundtrack. Had Tom Cruise being the lead...but there's the flaw. Like many Hollywood mega stars they end up doing "cookie cutter movies"...or films that just follow the exact same premise. In Cruise's case "I'm the hero" film. As in all his Mission Impossible films. Here he's again the hero but in ancient Japan during the end of the Samurai. Taking too many liberties. e.g. "Algren" gets stabbed near the kidney i the beginning and magically heals in months...trains in sword arts...gets beat down by Ugio iwth a wooden sword that should have killed him or handicapped him...then he helps fight the ninja (trained professionals) and a few months later fights along side the Samurai against the Imperial Army. All this in only 1 year. The Samurai in the movie trained since childhood...even then they had to qualify...have the talent and physical ability... I doubt in ancient times they would like a foreigner anywhere near their training grounds let a lone train with them.... And how was it Algren was able to go toe to toe with Ujio and win one??? Ujio was the best...the best I assumed of all of them...Algren whom at that point had only trained a few months after magically healing from being stabbed with a short sword...What kind of internal damage do you think happens when a sword goes through several organs? Did they take him to the village surgeon?? :) The Village OR or trauma room?? LOL!! They should have had Algren watch from the sidelines. Not be fighting the ninja. Be limping the entire time. Acknowledging the wound. Im guessing even if some one did get medical attention today from that kind of a wound it would take more than a year at least to "heal". If the sword missed all essential organs. How was he able to sit crouched on the floor on his feet something an American wouldn't have been used to....He'd be in so much pain still...doubt he could sit...heh...He'd be walking with a cane...at least. :)
