The Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe, and Bafta winning film composer Hans Zimmer is releasing a double album of reimagined versions of some of his most famous film themes, and this month the BBC is showing a documentary looking back on his four-decade career.
Zimmer, who created the scores for films including Top Gun: Maverick, The Lion King, No Time to Die and The Dark Knight, spoke to BBC Newsnight about this work and his latest project, composing for Frozen Planet II, and his environmental work with Sir David Attenborough.

Beautiful. Of course, I knew who Hans Zimmer was, and what he has done, but I did not realise he was such a lover of our beautiful planet. He is a music history icon.

I love documentaries. A really good documentary I saw is the Chilean movie The Mole Agent. I hope Hans Miller can conduct the score for a documentary movie and he could get another Oscar. He should have for Fire Of Love

David Attenborough’s documentaries is a manual in itself,every word is precious,completely relaxed,laid back old school narration ,much required in today’s world, a gentle,intelligent,sensitive , knowledgeable,nature conservationist,who has raised huge amount of money,goodwill to protect habitats,environment for other members of this planet earth 🌍 . We have so much animal diversity,we don’t want them to become another Dodo of sorts ,the foolhardiness of man carrying a shiploads of garbage and pests everywhere,destroying habitats.

@@googledoodle3977 In my house everything is wild,I don’t tend to plants,just water them ,and allow them to be themselves,so many insects, crustacean’s, birds , worms ,thrive in my garden,including bees,hornets, I have to sprinkle neem powder water to naturally disperse these hornets 🐝 from my garden 🪴!

Lovely interview. The only shame here is the less than pristine audio representation of the soundtracks in an interview which directly addressed the shame of less than pristine audio. More than a few of BBC news features have messed up audio on only one channel (not mono, but presented as stereo with nothing on one channel). Come on BBC, you are supposed experts to be making such beginner mistakes with audio.

Attenborough and his nature films used to be really good until he turned each one into a dirge of horror stories of extinction, exploitation and ruination. These things happen but the individual can do nothing to stop it and the appreciation of nature is killed also by this endless dirge . I stopped watching years ago. The balance has been lost. Why not save the doom and gloom until the end of the programme so that those that already know can be spared this reiteration of gloom in every episode by turning off.
