Once upon a time, there was an animation critic named AniMat. He watched Happily N’ever After in order to review how terrible it was. He gave it the seal of garbage. And as a reward for his bravery, he gets to watch and review Spirited Away, a beloved Studio Ghibli film. And he lived happily EVER after. -The end :)
Them basically being Timon and Pumbaa in wizard garb and as wizard’s assistants and causing things in the wizard’s lab to go chaotic due to their shenanigans while the Wizard is away seems like something that could happen in an episode of the Timon & Pumbaa show. Actually, that concept would be more entertaining and funny than this movie. Lol
One thing I don't get is that this wizard is trying to maintain bad and good in "balance" and the evil step mother makes all of favor for all bad. So what exactly would happen if everything was in complete favor for the side of good? Does everyone suddenly become Mary/Gary sues?
The tragic thing is that the original 2D concept art of Happily N'ever After was genuinely cool, as I recall. They should've gone with their relative core strength instead of assuming that 3D is always preferable even when it looks like that Dire Straits music video. It might've still been forgettable, but at least it wouldn't have been ugly on top of that.
I actually went to see this movie in theatres back when I was a kid in 2007, and it was so forgettable that I immediately forgot everything that happened as soon as I left the theatre. And keep in mind, this is coming from the same kid who actually used to like Vanguard Animation's other beloved masterpiece SPACE CHIMPS that came out a year later!
I noticed how much of this plot is similar to Cinderella 3 with the evil step-mother gaining magical powers and using it to her advantage to screw over Cinderella. Yet despite that being a Disney sequel it's actually 1000 times better then this film ever will be.
What’s worse is that this film has a cast of really talented voice actors, but sadly, they weren’t able to fix anything. Another thing that’s worse is that this was brought to us by the producer of Shrek 1 and 2.
The animation looks like something out of TF2 but more amateur because of how stiff they move. Also? Cinderella kinda looks like a green-eyed Saya from Blood+
@@kieranstark7213 no duh. I just say you comment like you're on speed because that's what they look like: Rambling, crazed and inane. Also, your comment on stopping bullies like you think you're a hero sounds so silly, I can't take you seriously.
George Robertson I know about his roles I only seen the former in full and he is one of the best things from that film and I also really enjoy his performance as Ken in Bee Movie.
And Andy Dick who plays Mumbo one of the assistant wizards played the evil rabbit Boingo in both Hoodwinked films too. I think the people who made this movie watched that and tapped Patrick and Andy to voice two characters. No wonder Hoodwinked and Happy Never After are both considered Shrek rip-offs. But I have to admit Hoodwinked was a better movie despite a low animation budget.
Fun story: back in 2008 an aunt rented this cash grab to keep her kids (which I was babysitting) and I kid you not the audio track was completely missing. There was no dialogue (on hindsight that's a good thing) and had to switch to the Italian dub because those damn weiner kids wouldn't shut up about the lack of voices.
The saddest part is that I feel like this movie could have actually worked if they actually tried to do more of their own thing with it, gave it more clever humor, made it in traditional animation with the designs and released it at a better time. Even though the concept of the guy who was supposed to be a minor character that just did certain things to keep Cinderella's story going ending up being the to marry her in the end was obviously a rip-off of Shrek's story with the whole "You can't end up with her" thing, I actually did feel like this was a clever spin on the classic story as this is the type of character you don't usually think much about if at all when hearing the story. A minor character getting the girl may be a similar plot twist to the usual villain getting the girl, but they're still pretty unique in their own way. I think this could have worked out really well if it was just executed in a way that didn't make it feel like it was trying to copy Shrek.
It's pretty funny how AniMat recommended watching "Enchanted" instead of "Happily N'ever After" since he actually had music from the former film in the review. I'm also surprised that he didn't call Mambo and Munk ripoffs of Timon and Pumbaa.
Shrek and Enchanted > Happily Never after and Hoodwinked Too People always mention Shrek, rightfully so as it’s a flat out classic, but Enchanted deserves more love ❤️ Enchanteds actually my favorite Disney movie ❤️❤️
Oh, Wallace Shawn, how could you stoop this low? :( Also, yeah I kinda want Pat Warburton to have more roles than the Dumb Muscle trope. I actually enjoyed his performance as Lemony Snicket, Vasquez from Borderlands, Joe from Family Guy and Big Bad Wolf because they made his competence match that of the main characters. At least in the first Hoodwinked movie.
I’d definitely would rather watch Hoodwinked! than this Shrek-cash grab. Even though Hoodwinked!’s animation is also bad, it feels like had more heart and effort put into it compared to Happily N’Ever After where the only thing that drove the filmmakers was just to make money.
Agreed, hoodwinked's animation is pretty bad but at least the story is well written and the jokes are funny. this is badly written, badly animated, badly acted, just bad in general.
I am 35-years-old by the way, but I am still comfortable saying I like this movie regardless of if it's a bad one, because on a personal level it's an enjoyable one to me. I will never apologize for being me
@Luigi Marinus Vlogs in my opinion, it definitely deserves a 10/10. The story is original, the animation looks great and the characters are lovable. It is an amazing movie and 2nd best of 2008 behind the Dark Knight
To be honest, I rather watch Shrek 3 than this stuffy piece of crud movie. Also I have no idea what movie he gave a clue about. "One of the best movies ever made".
Actually, to me, I still would want to watch Shrek 3, it's way too hilarious to hate, and tell me it's not (sure some of the jokes are stale but it really can have its moments)
Something I consider interesting is that the DVD for this movie actually has a interesting concept of answering a question and what you pick gives you a different menu path. ( it doesn't change that much but It had a good concept)
Why did I watch this so much as a kid with my twin? I'm so glad our tastes changed so we went on to watch much better movies. My favorite film is the Lego Movie. My brothers is Finding Nemo.
I do have a small bit of nostaligia for this movie, but I can see it hasn't aged well at all. Can we all just agree that Frieda is like the best thing about this movie?
Full Voice Actor List Freddie Prince Jr.: Rick - Sarah Michelle Gellar: Ella - Sigourney Weaver: Frieda the Stepmother - Wallace Shawn: Munk the Pig Wizard - Andy Dick: Mambo the Cat Wizard - Patrick Warburton: The Actual Prince - George Carlin: The Grand Wizard (Last Voice Before his Death) - Michael McShane: Rumplestiltskin - Lisa Kaplan: The Fairy Godmother - Jon Polito: One Wolf - Kath Soucie: One Stepsister, A Stolen Baby, Multiple Females - Tom Kenny: Another Wolf, the Red Chef, Multiple Males - Jill Talley: The Other Stepsister, Multiple Females - John DiMaggio: The Dwarf Leader, Multiple Males - Rob Paulsen: The White Chef, Multiple Males - Phil Proctor: The Blue Chef, Multiple Males - Tress MacNeille: The Witch Leader, Multiple Females
I remember my friend and I went to go see this (It had only been out for a few days mind you) and there were only two other people in the whole room aside from us. We quickly realized why because we didn't laugh, not even once, and were pretty damn bored through the whole thing. We couldn't even discuss it much when we left, we were just like "Welp, that was....certainly.....a movie"
You know? Even though Frieda is the villein, I like the way she looks. Can you imagine what would it be like if Frieda was NOT a bad guy but stayed the way she looks and be more nicer and never mean? What do you think?
that would have been awesome is especially if Ella took the staff from her zapped it at Frida and drained all her hatred and evil cruelty and even make her a decade or 2 younger.
"The movie is built as a desparate attempt to be Shrek." That's true, considering the fact that one of the men behind it is also one of the producers of Shrek! That guy is John H. Williams.
Am I the only one who thinks that Ella's design is kind of unique? I say this since most other iterations of Cinderella have her with yellow/gold/orange and/or long hair. Ella, on the other hand, has short dark brown hair.
Big shock! Vanguard is founded by the producers of Shrek. That's why they are trying to be Shrek. But where are the writers and the good directors??!!!
"Will we be watching this happily, or should we mention this film never after this review? Let's find out!" Uh... you already gave away the answer to that question when you mentioned it tried to cash in on the Shrek craze and that it coincidentally released in the time these movies had died.
I’ll admit Wallace Shawn never disappoints me. Even if he’s in a bad film, he’s one of the few aspects I take away from the experience. That’s how much he’s my favorite actor. Unfortunately, he’s never gonna be able to save the film despite his charm and humor.
George Robertson Maybe. The only other (non-animated) movies I know I’ve seen him in are Princess Bride, Haunted Mansion, and one of the American Girl movies.
That's good commentary. As an artist type, makes me want to work harder on getting a cool concept sketch into a good 3D character, which involves acting and writing and art.
I have vague memories of this movie from watching it as a kid and honestly I remember enjoying it (I think I just really loved the idea of Cinderella ending up with the servant boy instead of the prince also her short haircut was cute can we please see a Disney princess rocking that cut please and thanks)
Wow, that was fast! It's just like when the "Ice Age" review was announced after the "Antz" review. I've never seen this movie before, but I don't really plan to check it out anytime soon. I have no idea what movie is next to be reviewed.
Can we all agree that the Frida Is the most underrated villainess to ever exist and deserves alot better then this. Half the time I'm even rooting for to finally beat Cinderella over anyway quite easily losing to her and If you also like another underrated villainess I do recommend the Forest Witch from a show call My Knight And Me and you'll might thank me later. Y'know what also worst that someone else toke some of their character designs for a Troll Movie ripoff and thought It was done by some of the people who once worked on this movie and It was made In LITERALLY recent In this year of 2018 "Trolled" (Not to be confused with Dreamworks') ~ Wow, when you truly make both Scowl and Batso look likeable and decent In comparison y'know ya it a newer low then Mambo's awful at attempt of rapping which BTW dude you be rappin' awful!
Not gonna lie, all the way through this video until you showed a clip of Munk & Mambo talking, I was sure the cat would be the straight guy who puts up with the hog's tomfoolery, not vice versa. So that means this movie has some main characters that aren't completely predictable! ..right?
It's better than the sequel. At least this film had an all-star cast, and a few funny jokes. The other one has animation on parr with FoodFight, and only like 1 returning voice actor. At least Frida is kinda hot. As a kid, I liked this film. As an adult, it's something I don't wanna watch again, but have fond memories of, since me and my brother bonded over it.
Regardless of if it is a fairy tale spoof or not, Chicken Little is still a really bad movie, maybe not as bad as Happily N'Ever After, but still downright bad I think only its intro counts as a fairytale spoof
6:13 HAHAHAHAHAHA, oh man, Mat that’s actually great your at least trying to find something good about its visuals, also not gonna lie, she is pretty hot 8:23 I also agree with that
