I watched this knowing I'm shopping for a delay. I've got it narrowed down to this one, a Empress Echosystem, or a more affordable Walrus ARP-87. And now all I'm sure of is that I want that Schecter.
Had this for a few weeks and it is an Inspiring pedal. Even with just 4 delay types, I feel there is a lot to explore. The part that was weird for me at first was the simultaneous old/new sound. I click it on to hear less fidelity of an old delay, but instead get pristine modern digital sound quality replication of lofi hardware. Will keep it for a while because I like it.
I really hope UA will allow this thing to accept their plugin algos. Would be a must purchase if they had their SDD3000 model and RE-201 plugins available.
I’m about the same amount of time and absolutely with you! Loving both and both are the absolute best I’ve ever played. I had and played about every delay/echo. Many original EP3’s, first run Memory Man’/Men🤷♂️🤣 So rich in tones and designed by one of the best players and engineers, James Santiago! This man is an absolute gem🙏🙌
Just got mine and the Golden I put them up against my Axe Fx 3 all things being considered the Golden is superior choice and the the Starlight “Tape” is great The other delays memory man and digi are pretty easy to reproduce on the fractal I know not every quirk brought in by UA is reflected automatically on the Axe Fx they can be dialed in but again the Tape is great just like my multi tape units circa ‘82 And the Cooper tile cube I have been using as a uad2 plug for some time for many applications but it’s nice to have that algorithm on the floor for live use
Well, if UA didn't pay you for your humor, they should give you a little bonus as you cracked me up in various moments and in the midst of a pretty good demo of the pedal's capabilities.
UAFX has really stormed the pedal market rather quickly with their sites aimed straight at Strymon. Also, that guitar looks really nice and seems to sound pretty good, too - looks expensive. Thanks for the demo.
Great and entertaining review, Henning, I expected nothing less. I‘m deciding between this pedal and the Strymon El Capistan. The Starlight sounds amazing, no questions. „Your 2 cents“ is very appreciated as you make out the flaws clearly. And you‘re right, it‘s not very usable for performing musicians. So I‘m gonna go with the tried and true El Capistan (which could have also been updated in all the years it‘s been out, even if there is the big brother Timeline)
As I told you in another comment my drummer works at UA. Well he can get me the starlight the Astra or the golden for $100 each. I am going to buy The starlight first then the other two. THIS PEDAL IS A MUST-HAVE. Just rewatch the video because I am getting the pedal mostly because it's the best delay you can get IMHO. Thanks Henning!✌️

Im holding off on these until they reveal what the future holds for this ecosystem. Hopefully the namm in june will have some good news. I'd like to see an eq/preset/midi hub pedal , and an king of tone purple colored overdrive pedal. Sound great but not $1200 with missing features great

Sorry I keep commenting on your delay videos man but unfortunately my local major music store is seriously lacking in the pedal department so I can’t test out these pedals in person but would you recommend the Starlight over the Walrus D1? I know it’s subjective but I’d really appreciate your opinion. Great video again!
Dadgum! Sitting here watching Henning grin like a possum eating grapes is worth the price of admission. Not sure if I’m smart enough to get out of it what he is, but pretty sure my kid could. UA appears to make creative poverty a worthwhile experience.
What do you think about the lack of a way to sync to external gear, especially given the observation that it’s a studio pedal? I want this quite a bit but tue lack of midi or external sync is a feature breaker. Or am I missing something?

Dude, I bought this UA Starlight today really truly believing that it was gonna blow me away so much that I would just HAVE to replace my Walrus Audio D1 with it and after playing with it for about 6 hours, I have to honestly say that as amazing as it sounds, the D1 beats it by a hair. I still have basically 45 days to make up my mind on it but to my ears, they both sound just as good but the D1 has features like the reverse that the Starlight just can’t do. Again, I’m gonna keep messing with it for a few more days…
I think they are different.... the Starlight does excellent emulations of classic delays and the D1 does something new. The ATTACK knob give you great original sounds etc. I think the D1 cannot do what the Starlight does and vice versa.
hoping to see the astra next, mxr flanger/ doubler finally. not sure if anyone else tried to copy it. and it's not analog (if it needs to be?). be an interesting review. and i know you like doubling.
Chorus is a better modulation than vibrato? Not on a delay, and most definitely not on a DMM. And the DMM setting got somewhat murdered during this demo, I feel. Too much Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen?
Why do I need a pedal in the studio that does the same things as the plugins, but more complicated? I don't get it. The whole purpose of it would have been for using it live. But the pedals are useless when you don't know what the knobs do when they're labelled misleadingly. And don't have midi. I don't get what who this is for? Only can think of people who have a studio but no UA software and still want to use their effects? But that's only a few people, I guess.
Very nice to see UA pedals out, and I'm sure they'll be excellent. But how about a stinkin Android version of the OxBox software???!!!! How long has that damn device been out, and no Android support in 2021? How many thousands of sales have they lost on this one simple, but gross oversight?
