Benigni, Roberto - Speech on happiness, The Ten Commandments, Rai, December 2014
"We always love too little and too late" is one of Roberto Benigni's phrases in his version of the Ten Commandments. Remarkable the passage on happiness.
"[Happiness] Look for it, every day, all the time. Whoever listens to me now seeks happiness. Now, at this very moment, because it is there. You have it. We have it. Because they gave it to all of us. They gave it to us when we were little. They gave it to us as a gift, as a dowry. And it was such a beautiful gift that we hid it like dogs hide bones. And most of us do it so well, they don't remember where they put it. But we have it, you have it. Look in all the closets, the shelves, the compartments of your soul. Throw it all away. The drawers, the nightstands in them. You'll see it coming out. There's happiness. [...] And even if she forgets us, we must never forget her. "You must never be afraid of dying, but never start living for real."
