I remember a few episodes (including the one with Leather Tuskidero and the one where Richie and the boys were painting a fence for a young woman who hired them and winds up on a private date with Richie) where some ot the characters wore stuff that seemed more like the 70's rather than the 50's. How accurate was the Happy Days series regarding woredrobe???

Watched a video where Winkler recalled the only time he actually drove the motorcycle was the shot that is shown during the opening credits. He crashed the bike shortly out of camera sight and they still used the shot.

What I thought was interesting- even before the series ever aired- is that Winkler knew he was going to be playing a "greaser" but decided on his own that he was going to completely stay away from the two most stereotypical things a greaser does... comb his hair and smoke a cigarette. In what become one of the scenes repeated before each episode ,the script had him going into the bathroom and combing his hair...but he decided to start to do it,but stops and puts his arms up...as if to say" hey it looks great" He actually does not have his comb touch his hair . But Gary Marshall liked that scene the way Winkler deviated from the script and Gary left it in.And in no scene in the whole series does Winkler ever comb his hair or smoke a cigarette. He does occasionally have a comb in his hand . I think it is interesting that Winkler could decide to do those things HIS way before he was any sort of star.I commend him for staying away from the stereotype.

And the one where he's rehabbing a broken leg on the Cunningham's couch after jumping his bike over the record # of garbage cans on a live tv show. The fact that most shocked me is that Henry Winkler never once rode his motorcycle. Especially since we clearly see him riding it in the open credits with no help at all. It's true he had no idea how to ride (so he went very slow) but he DID ride it. Might want to double check these facts.

Joanie invited the mail man. Richie had an older brother named Chuck. He was there in some of the first season but disappeared after. The term jumping the shark is from a Happy Days episode where Fonzie was going to jump a shark tank. The term now means anything to boost ratings.

You left out, what I think is one of greatest secrets of the show that I doubt very people know. Happy Days started out as just one of the many stories on the anthology series "Love, American Style", it was originally called "Love and the Television Set" but was later relabelled for syndication as "Love and the Happy Days". Season 3 episode 22. There was no Fonzie character, in fact Potsie was supposed to be the bad influence on Richie. I remember watching it when it first came out. For what it's worth, according to Wikipedia, that episode is also what inspired George Lucas's "American Graffiti".

Henry Winkler DID ride the motorcycle for some outdoor shots like pulling into Arnold’s and some other scenes. But he only rode the bike for only as long as needed for the actual shot.

Mickey Dolenz wasn't hired because he was taller than Ron Howard. 'Fonzie' was originally intended to be blond and not very bright- just somebody to hang around with 'Richie'. Fonzie's original name was 'Masharelli' and he would be called 'Mash' but that would bring it into conflict with tv series 'MA.S.H.' so 'Fonzarelli' was invented. 'Masharelli' was a nod to Garry Marshall's actual last name. Henry Winkler acted like 'the Fonz' as he came to be known instead of the blond slow guy and they changed the character to fit Winkler's version. In an episode in the series first year, Fonzie is seen riding his motorcycle when Richie, Potsie and Ralph were dealing with some goofballs that want to get tough with them and Fonzie's arrival ends the confrontation. Fonzie said that he was looking for a loudmouth named 'Dooley' and some kind of challenge starts out. It's clear that Winkler is riding the 'cycle

I did not know that Happy Days was supposed to be set in the 20's or 30's . I loved Happy Days as it was, but the 20's and 30's would have been cool as well. I also did not know it was supposed to be named Cool. Glad they changed the name!

Where do you get your information? Happy Days was originally a segment of Love American Style with three of the final characters. Gary Marshall developed the series, but he did not create it.
