For nurses day at a hospital I worked at, they literally gave out rocks. Someone wrote on the rocks the word "you" and everyone rolled their eyes. We got a stern email the following week about how ungrateful we all were for not taking the rocks home
@@MostafaAhmed-bp7ce its not the expectation of the gift. It's the insult of a crappy gift. Just say "thanks!" And move on at that point. But to give out a rock and expect a standing ovation is dumb.
Bill Bill was so excited… Reminds me of receiving my thank you from our school district for 10 years of teaching. They printed out a certificate and handed it to me in front of the whole staff. We all had the thats it look. A few days later my husband received his thank you from his job for 10 years of working there. He got to pick a gift out of a catalog, received a substantial bonus, and a small 10 year statue. He felt so bad for me he picked out a coach purse from the gift catalog and gave it to me when it arrived.
Yeah, IT treats people better than that usually. And beaurocratic jobs. Lower ranking gvt officials at least get gift baskets from time to time and high ranking gvt officials just hand themselves bonuses for a „job well done”
Hi virtual twin. Educator here with a Tech husband. No joke- for holiday gift one year he got a TV and a $10k check. I got a Tootsie Roll… the small one. When I won Teacher of the Year, I got to write an essay and submit it to the district telling them what I did to earn it.. 😂. I would have rather earned one of those “I went to Florida and all I got was this lousy Tshirt” gifts haha
They brought an ice cream truck for teacher appreciation week for my teachers. The only thing that the kids ever got was a visit from the Italian ice truck. Yes, I said Italian ice. One of my hometown’s most beloved businesses was an Italian ice shop. We got Italian ice cups about the size of a shot glass full of Italian ice while the teachers got full on gigantic ice cream sundaes. They get the ice cream every year while the students got the Italian ice when they were still nice to kids. That happened over a decade ago.
Forced Equality rarely leads to fairness, in fact it often Creates gluts and depravities. . . I recall when that culture started in the late 80s and 90s. In an effort to force equality in the name of Fairness. Thus those who might need a little extra are left without enough. And others with too much. But we're not allowed to share either.. reminds me of certain scifi books and movies involving communist dystopias Edit: yeah I'm on about some other stuff but i already wrote the message so meh. Food for thought for those who stumble by. Too bad it's missing the counter-argument & expanded information to clarify .. meh
My mom’s a home health nurse, so on nurse’s day, they always get a bunch of cupcakes and stuff. Issue is, they always leave it in the office, where the nurses rarely, if ever go. The only time they’re even able to make it there is in the evenings after they’ve finished with their patients for the day….which means there’s nothing left, as the office staff always eats it all before they get there. If you know any nurses or doctors, treat them right - their jobs certainly don’t :’)
This is a truism...most nurses avoid offices of any kind r/t rude nasty staff, punitive managers, negative milieu, etc. ...a mercifully retired RN of 45+ years.
Fact! I’m in the OR. The treats from admin are always put in the break room. You know what else is always in the break room: Surgeons and residents between cases while we are running to get the room turned over and get the next patient. By the time I get relieved for break everything has been eaten.
the final straw will be when they take his stethoscope. or if he were a nurse it would be his pulse ox. seriously. leave the pulse ox alone if its not yours or the hospital's. fuck that drives me nuts. they don't grow on fucking trees.
This is hilarious! As a physician, I totally understand this. Our hospital and clinic together gave us an $8.50 voucher for doctors day to use at our cafeteria. Which is not even enough for an entree!! I got so use to it that when I told my wife-who works in nonprofit management for the homeless-about the nice treat we got, she was so angry given all that our hospital has asked us to sacrifice. She made me realize that their token of appreciation is such a joke! An $8.50 voucher is not much better than a verbal thank you….
_I actually got a thank you this week. A patient I'd seen phoned the ambulance station to say thank you for helping them...honestly, I was in such a good mood all day because of it!_
You Can Do This?? How Do You Find The Right Number?? Are You An EMT/EMS or Actual Hospital Worker?? Who To Call?? I don't want to call the main number or emergency number and get in trouble or hurt someone else's chances of getting Real Help!!
@@yodelissosa7791 _For ourselves, contacting the station directly or sending a letter to the station will usually find it's way to the crew, or at the very least, it's put up in our crew room. It's a nice reminder that we are more than just a digit, as management sometimes forgets._
This is so sweet!! Appreciation is such a nice feeling. Most don't get the acknowledgement they deserve. I love stories like this, thanks for sharing, fellow Legend!!
My god this is so painfully heartbreaking it isn't funny.. 😶 I sort of knew it wasn't going to end well when I saw that happy innocent smile of expectation on Bill's face..
Always felt like doctors deserved respect, like they literally save and help to save lives like everyday with no ask of reward or thanks and that to me is FUCKING GODLIKE 😆stay golden doctor
The doctors used to save lives, now they behave very much like 9-5 bank cashiers. Waiting to clock out. They are ONLY willing to be a Good-Little - monkey 🙈 & do what the CMO tells them to instead of using their brains, education & judgement to care for patients as INDIVIDUALS. I see only apathetic MDs hanging out pain med Rx like candy. If it’s not pharmaceutical they don’t know shiet
Well you get what you wanted in Society now in 2023. Spoiled millennials & Gen. Z- are NARCISSISTS & they have zero respect for ANYONE. Society & PUBLIC SCHOOLS created their own monsters. Now deal
@@bonedtothestone7408 Who ever said that and why did you make up that ridiculous scenario in your head? You DO realize that veterans have seen WAR, right? Many of them have severe physical impairments such as missing a limb or being blind, and many have mental scars such as PTSD from what they’ve seen. Doctors are amazing too, they save lives! But soldiers have gone through hell for their country. It’s just not comparable here.
@@carrie00 The way things are going...We might even become WW3 veterans...Or maybe we won't become cuz maybe we won't live....But obviously this guy would understand the military's importance then
this reminds me of the "clap for the NHS" trend over lockdown while medical staff were having meltdowns due to burnout and people just clapped and that's it 💀
In India people banged utensils one day to celebrate Drs & another time there was a shower of flowers by helicopters. Like tf are we going to do with that. Just give us the extra salary we deserve
My mother got a burnout. It was so sad to see honestly she quit her job in the hospital because her boss was an asshole and she concentrated on the office she had. Like, nice you guys are clapping, but you don't help. It is like thses people that stand around an accident. You just like to watch but you are ABSOLUTELY NO HELP Some people are working their ass off and are treated like a pile of crap at the same time. This moral Is killing me. They canceled surgeries for the non existent Corona patients, They treated them like shit They didn't get paid more Many quit Very much people didn't go along with that. in one hospital they couldn't do ANY surgery anymore because all the anesthesists have all quit. It is better like that, they threw out all the money to buy advertisements for the vaccination, but didn't give a fuck about the hospitals. Ironic isn't it?
Poor Bill, he doesn't know yet that "thank you" is the same gift every group in medical gets. From MD's to all support staff. It's nice to hear when sincere and not mass expressed.
Nah, not everyone. No one even knew Respiratory Therapists existed until the Covid pandemic. They got nothing- maybe a 2% raise every couple of years (after years with pay freezes). Stick around for a while and you no longer get step increases because you are at top of scale. Because of the pandemic and all the travel contracts making employee retention challenging, they were offered a retention bonus of $1,000- but only if they stayed another 7 months. The hospital system, which received millions of dollars in federal pandemic relief funds, also threw them a 2% raise two years in a row. Where did the pandemic relief funds go? To pay travel contracts, executive bonuses, and lawsuit settlements and attendant legal costs.
This reminds me of the outrage last year when management was thinking up ways to reward stressed medical staff. They ended up making a thank you card template that the staff could print out and give to each other in recognition of good work. Not that thank you cards are bad, but it was definitely not the type of reward you'd expect for the level of extra effort that handling a pandemic requires.
That's the appreciation most people in the medical field get. Some are in it for the money, but most of us really got into it because we genuinely love helping people. And unless you are a doctor, your pay is not equivalent to your work. I definitely didn't become a CNA for the pay! It is hard work, both physically and mentally, and I could make more money working at McDonald's or Wal-Mart! But I love what I do, it's incredibly rewarding, and that makes it worth it to me.
Imagine it being nurse appreciation day, the hospitalist says “come for your gift” but then in order to get your gift you have to sign a contract saying that you will stay for another year or you have to give the gift back.
@@Hanniekinz I feel you pain. I am a Sterile Processing Technician and they pulled this with us as well where I work. Signed over 2 years of my life for 3k now, 3k then, with me having to pay all of it back, including the taxed bit if I leave early. The kicker? I owe the full 6k even though they only payed me 3k upfront.
Also pleaaaaaaaase drop a congratulatory message on the complaints and suggestions's book if you are satisfied with the provided service. Sometimes the staff get a bit more of respect from the admin when those are written :)
Kinda is in the UK. NHS staff were denied a pay rise even with everything they’ve been through with the pandemic. Not even a bump to offset inflation. Because of a lack of funds. So they effectively get less money for the same job. However there was enough money for MP’s to get a pay rise.......just to add to the insult.
And that would be the day when doctors could buy anything by just saying "thank you". 😂 After all they do have to live, not die of hunger or of being devoid of their basic needs.
Good ppl deserve to be supported. Who you invest your resources into matters. Pour your efforts into the good ones and good things will result. We'll have a fighting chance.
I am sick for almost a year now, I always say thank you to nurses and doctors whenever I have surgery or a checkup. They do great work, make long hours and are people to, it still surprises me that it's not common to say thank you every now and then
Don't even mention blocked computers. I can't even check the news on the pc at work - there is a popup from the blocking program that says - reason - "entertainment not allowed'
@@grumbles a coworker and I were trying to look up that old bicycle safety commercial with the guys playing basketball & the dancing bear in the background...yeah don't Google "dancing bear" on a work computer 🙈
Nah. Ppl who thank veterans can't rlly do much else right then and there(maybe go out later and volunteer to help veterans and donate money to their cause, but like to that veteran they can't do much else) a hospital admin person can def do more for doctors in this scenario
@@Robopi3.14 don't know about that. I got a meal paid for me a few times while in uniform and while I never met any of them, I thought of it as very appreciative. Veteran discounts are also nice.
I love all the effort to find out Bill's name and give him a ticket and the hospital administrator just completely disregards to personalise the thank you in any way
it really be like that in healthcare 😂 for EMS week they sent out a "thank you" email late and reminded us that we can use the counseling services available 🙃
Go into private practice, charge $150 per visit, & don’t accept _any_ type of insurance (to avoid government scrutiny for working with every other company except low-balling, socialized Medicaid.) (Btw, I actually have Medicaid ..but _still_ pay a private office since socialized medicine ALWAYS uses ‘addiction propaganda’ as an excuse to deny patients access to needed controlled substances.) 😐 “You don’t need adderall for ADHD, ..you have bi-polar disorder. So here, have some lithium.” 😃👍 “Oh you just had a c-section? Congratulations!! ..Here’s your prescription for 2 lortabs & follow-up instructions for otc Tylenol. ..You don’t wanna risk developing a ‘dependency problem’ with that precious new baby ..now do you??” 😃👍 “Well doc, considering I have a track history of few and far between opiate prescriptions ..along with the fact my guts were hanging out yesterday.. that’s not really a PERSONAL concern of mine.” 🤦🏻♀️ Doc: “Oh, haha.. and what gave you the impression your FREE healthcare would ALSO remain _‘personalized’_ as opposed to _‘standardized?’_ 💀
at least you had counseling available, we just worked and worked and when one of us got covid, they'd be sent to covid ward to treat COVID pt.s xDDD Aaaah, I am so glad we are done with that shit! absolutely not looking forward to repeating the COVID experience ever again!
I'm not even in the medical field, but as a fellow essential worker I felt the pain from this. It's complete bull that people who are considered essential get treated like they're dispensable, while people who play sports, pretend to be someone else, or stare into a camera are treated like minor royalty. And of course let's not go there about those who get paid to sit on their butts all day and make decisions about things that they know absolutely nothing about...
Send them my thanks. I can’t give them a pizza party or physical gifts but I appreciate all the doctors that have helped me and sacrifice their time for the common good.
This makes me think of nurses week back in 2020 when covid was making my job suck even worse. My hospital gave us all rubber bands with a note that said "remember to stay flexible, happy nurses week". That was the beginning of so many of us quitting
My mum is a nurse and her hospital decided to do a “Thank you” day. The “head” of the wards had to organise a thank you gift. Other wards got cupcakes and gift cards, while my mums got bananas. They where over ripe. And my mums ward is the covid ward.
I was a hospital patient for a few days. it was unexpected. My visitors didn't give me candy or cookies. I wished they had. Because I would had taken one, give the rest to my nurses. (I am a nurse assistant, I hardly get a thanks, much less a piece of candy.)
OMG ! Sooooo Sad and kind of true. I feel bad because is true, last time we got a basket with some chips and it was for the whole residency meanign 3 chips for 30+ people 😥... True story... STAY SAFE ALL ! What you do matters !
This is why I appreciate my nursing home. On staff appreciation days they order a food truck or on resident barbecue days let everyone race over and grab their lunch as well. The ice cream van was definitely appreciated in the summer.
I'll be honest, people who serve others to make everyone's lives easier/better (doctors, waiters, chefs, helpers, the whole nine yards) don't get enough thank yous that they should. I always try to say thank you and be respectful to anyone who has the patience to help me with anything let alone other much more disrespectful. So thank you for keeping me alive
Happy Doctor's day, today! We need more appreciation and respect for our doctors every day! It shouldn't be so difficult for our doctors to become doctors, and it shouldnt be so hard for doctors to provide the type of care they want to provide to us humans! Appreciate all you good, happy doctors❤❤❤
I 100% disagree. It should be very difficult to become a doctor. The only ones that make it should be the very best. Our lives literally depend on it. Having gone to excellent, genius docs and also dealt with lazy, useless lazy bastards I can tell you it definitely makes a difference.
@@Manhandle730 - No, it doesn't particularly since many of the barriers (like having 💰 or the ability to take on insane student debt) have nothing to do with one's ability to be a good doctor.
At my residency program, we had a speech by the director after morning lecture about how valuable we are to the world, told to give ourselves a round of applause, and then “back to work”. Bill is spoiled with an individual “thank you”
I remember once when I was at 5th grade there was someone putting water bottles in the school toilet and for some reason the director asked me and my friend to find out who it was by the end of the week and he will reward us. So every break time we sat in front of the toilet, going in to check whenever some one who was inside left. As our deadline was approaching we finally found out who it was and we told the director, and when we asked him what our reward was he said he'll give us a 'gosh' which in my language has two different meanings the first being bull and the second being an adverb meaning you did well we naturally thought it was a bull but as you can guess it wasn't. Never felt so betrayed in my life.
I’m an architect but i loved ur videos ! Lol, we suffer the same fate only in a very different line of work. When i was just a junior architect i didn’t sleep for 3 days for this final submission before we gave it to client, and all i get was “thanks”, just stood there with my dark under eye 🐼. not even a coffee lol.
Candy and a chapstick?. WTF? I got a copy of their happy holidays card…..in Black and white…..for the wall, so everybody could read it. Just in case , my co workers felt left out😂😂😂 happens every year…..in january! (Y know, when the admin return from their 3 week Christmas funwithfamily….)😉
I got one lifesaver with a cheesy saying. The gift the techs gave the nurses was better. They gave us personalized water bottles with our name, RN and a Starbucks gift card.
Hilarious as always. At the opposite end of the spectrum, at the hospital where I was an RD, we would serve a wonderful catered sit-down lunch for the docs. The chef (yes, we had a chef) would go all out: steak medallions in Bernanaise sauce or chicken cordon bleu, etc. Our dept would decorate the large conference room; tables had linen, china and crystal. The docs would receive a nice swag bag from HR. The CEO would give a nice presentation. The docs appreciated the effort and sentiment. Our dept would plan for weeks and we were allowed a large budget. We'd laugh because the docs told us the other hosp in town (the only other acute care hosp) would give them a deli sandwich in a box with a measly swag bag. Wow!
I’m really glad I had little goodie bags for all the people that helped me at the hospital when my son was born. It was mostly candy but I seriously appreciate healthcare workers so much
Hahaha....Nurse here...one time we got a McDonalds gift certificate ($5) to buy "Golden" fries for all the "Golden" work we do. That was just insulting! I admit we have it better than you docs, though. You guys are so underappreciated. Thank you!
Sometimes it really aches you sacrifice to do alot to get tips or increase rank what you got is just thank you my bro you were right to beg for another thank you at least you got two
We recently received granola bars and business size cards that said "Thank You" and "You Rock". I flipped it over hoping for at least a coupon to the cafeteria... but NOPE.
BWAHAHAHA!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 Holy $h!+ man!! Completely dead on balls accurate for administration. I'm gonna need to change now. I peed myself laughing at your comment.
All. The man. WANTED. Was another thank you! Bill, is a saint!😭 ...also, it's really bad that doctors basically get treated like highly paid retail workers (at least when it comes to not being appreciated by management and getting yelled at by mean patients/customers). Why is it like this?😔
Here in Colombia i got one day a salad dressing for my doctor's day gift. I kept it for a year. It is one my motivations to leave the f out of this country .
Most nurses are happy when we hear our name and it's not followed by whining, complaining or there's a code! While being thanked is always appreciated.. remember that actions speak louder than words! By giving us candy bars or more donuts to say" we need and count on you" seems nice we would rather have another nurse every shift..or a raise!
Sound like “Teacher Appreciation Day.” We just end up in EXTRA meetings that could have been emails (which is 90% of them) instead of attending to work that needs to be done, KIDS (students and our own), and our own family and lives.
In my country on teachers day students take over teachers responsibility for a day. It was fun to be a teacher of a day but we really understood how much effort our teachers are putting for us
They took nurses week away and made it nursing home week at one of the places I worked. That way, none of the NON NURSES would feel left out.... on nurses week? We feel you!
Pretty sure we didn’t even get a thank you today. You get nothing and you will like it!! Unbelievable. To my fellow hospitalists across the country, much love ❤️
This makes me sick to my stomach i am a nurse of 13 years and I can tell you the amount of respect ,support appreciation and advocacy For our Doctors has become little to none. Same for nurses but more so for our Doctors. Pitiful
This is how companies treated essential workers lol. "Our workers are heroes". I work in a research lab at a pharma company. We worked tirelessly the whole summer of 2020 on a COVID treatment. We accomplished something that would've been impossible with the limited resources. All we got was a plaque. No raises to reflect inflation either this year. I'm glad I'm a hero though.
I work at a skilled nursing facility as a patient safety sitter and we got a cool "Heroes work here" sign placed out front. They still treat us like shit, and pay us like shit, but they saved face with a cool sign outside that everybody else can see. Pretty cool!
Lmfao i thought it was going to be the pen lmao That ia just wrong! Bill was so hopeful it hurt my soul when all the hope was dashed from his eyes with that one thank you.
During the COVID pandemic I got a thank you card from one of my patiënt. She thanked me for acting quickly in trying times. It was the first and only “thank you”-card I got but it was still nice to get one.
