A little clay recycling:
This is a fast little video just showing one way to use trimming scraps. After trimming some items I had nice clean Loafers Glory scraps in the splash pan. I saved them, dried them out, and turned them into an easy deflocculated slip. These pieces being cut out can be added to the surface of your clay projects, laid on slab and put back through the slab roller, or even to make jewelry. This does not have to be dried out on a plaster slab, it can also be brushed onto your clay for surface decoration. It is how we make the white decoration slip you find in cabinet at the studio. If you wanted to get fancy you could add mason stains, oxides, or liquid underglaze to make colored slip. These items are available for you to purchase at the local clay distributor, just remember to ask us if it is something we allow to fire in the studio prior to purchasing to avoid buying something that you can't return. These items are not available to from YAS. If there are questions regarding the process let us know and we can explore this further during class or maybe make a video.
Just remember when you crush up the dried clay ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wear a respirator. You never ever want to breath in that clay dust.
