Oh my, watching this is so heartbreaking and I just wanted to give you the biggest hug! My son went through almost exactly what you described. He was born February 28, 2023 and spent 14 days in the nicu. He was also on CPAP, feeding tubes, IV’s, etc. and I didn’t get to hold him until day 4. My heart aches for you ❤ it’s so difficult, especially when it is so unexpected! He was born at 37 weeks and it didn’t even cross my mind that he would have to go to the nicu and I would have to leave the hospital without him.

Dear Kayli and Casey, I'm so very happy to hear that Finn is improving and getting stronger each day. He WILL be home before you know it and this will be a distant memory soon enough. You and your family remain in my prayers. I cannot fathom how difficult it had to be to have to leave the hospital without him. It would be hard enough to have him in the NICU instead of your room while you were in the hospital. I'm glad you are doing well enough to manage to pump, nurse, deal with things at home as well as getting up to the hospital to be with your babe. It's a lot. Please do get the rest you need, Kayli. I know it has to be hard with your littles at home as well as recovering from your surgery and all the worries and trips to the hospital and back. Remember that you are best fit to help everyone else if you take good care of yourself. You have two big kiddos and Casey there to help with everything you need, so make use of that and rest up. You are a beautiful family - I enjoy all of your channel and HUSH too - and know you are surrounded by good people. Let anyone willing and able to help, help. I swear the schedule from the NICU was such a blessing from our whole experience. My son came home a great sleeper! We loved Dr browns. That's what they used in the hospital so we just kept using them and it fostered a good latch to nurse too! I remember the day I was discharged before my baby and just how heartbroken I was. I understand how you felt. My sweet boy was born with a heart defect and got flown 4hrs away from me. I was so torn and desperate to see him. I was up and walking as soon as I could after C-section so I would be ready to get to him. We have had to fight so hard for the past 6 months of his life. Just this week he had a stroke. He still continues to smile after it all. I don’t know how I’ve held it together so long. It is truly the hardest thing I have been through. I hope soon we can finally breathe and enjoy him. But till then I will continue to fight along side him. I’m so glad you have your sweet boy with you now ❤

Bless your hearts 💔😢 That is so tough... our 6mo old baby girl was born right on 31 weeks back in August and I wasn't allowed to hold her for 15 days... didnt see her little face til 8days old (nurse slide her masks off quickly once for me!)... When we had to leave and go home (I was there for 7 days due to what was going on with me) ... it was so so hard to walk out of that hospital and ride away... 😢 I bawled 😥 I wasn't allowed to walk for about 4 weeks after... my OB asked that I be pushed around in a wheel chair, due to severe pre-eclampsia. Our older children didnt get to meet her til she was 7 weeks old, so that was sad. She is doing so good now and God has been so good to us!! ❤😊

I recently weaned my 18 month old and we did nursing/bottle feeding of pumped milk. We had great success with como tomo bottles with slow flow nipples. I hear that they aren’t recommended as much by lactation consultants but it was the only bottle that my baby would seamlessly take while also nursing and she didn’t develop a bottle preference. We had major bottle preference problems with dr browns narrow and that was also a hard bottle to clean with so many parts. Towards the end I exclusively nursed as it was much easier but when they feed all day long as babies it’s nice to have dad give a bottle here and there! So happy to hear baby Finn is home! I was seriously bawling for you. I can’t imagine the feeling of leaving baby in the hospital. You are such a strong mama!

I nursed my daughter when she was in the NICU, but stopped when she came home due to my supply dropping. She LOVES the Mam bottles&the wide-neck Dr. Brown’s!

I was in that same situation when my boy was born he had to stay 3 weeks in the ICU he was full of meconium and I remember all of the wires and seeing him getting so upset and leaving him there. My heart was broken. I couldn't breast feed had a bad C Section. I use the evenflow bottles with the bags. And the ICU had him eating every 4 hrs so I had the bottles made ready to go. Praying for you and the family that Finn will be home soon. its hard to see you cry. 💙♥♥♥♥🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Congratulations Kayli. I’m so proud that he’s improving and I know it’s frustrating to have to leave him, but NICU mama’s are so strong. Some of my best friends are NICU mama’s and I feel their pain. One of my best friends is dealing with being a NICU mama right now again with her second baby and they still don’t know when her daughter will be able to go home, but it’ll be so soon for the both of you. My eldest daughter was born and got a double pneumothorax (1993) and I was not able to hold her for 4 days after she was born. She spent those days in the NICU. The tears you have are worth shedding to keep yourself calm and even keel. You and your family are in my prayers.

Sending love! We had a NICU baby at 35 weeks. It was so hard trying to go see him after having a c-section and not being able to drive for a bit. Ours had a GI disease and required surgery so he was in for about 15 days. The NICU used Dr.Brown's bottles which has so many parts and was so much work to wash! We used avent with our first and eventually transitioned our baby to the avent bottle too.

So many memories flooding back. My twins were in the NICU nearly 13 years ago now. Looking back now, those days were easy compared to these pre-teen years lol. I absolutely know how hard it is for you Kayli, I ended up refusing to leave the hospital without my babies, I just couldn’t do it. So they found us an on call room & once we’d moved all my stuff to it they’d said one of the twins could leave the NICU to go back on a ward so I had to stay too 🎉

When I was still nursing I used the evanflo balance+ bottles! It’s supposed to help with latching for babies who are both nursing and bottle fed so that they don’t lose the latch while nursing, plus doesn’t make it hurt as much! I’m so so happy he’s home now!

Watching this is easier knowing he is home with you now. So hard to leave your baby at the hospital. Grow Finn grow!

I was a 34 weeker but very small for my gestational age. I was in the NICU for 26 days. My brother was 28 weeks and was in the NICU for 62 days. So my family knows the NICU life. It makes me so happy to see that he’s doing better and that he’s home with you guys. It’ll make him stronger in the end. And someday he’ll have a story to tell.
