Tropic Thunder was filmed on my Island of Kauai in Hawaii. Known as “The Garden Island”, we are the go to place anytime Hollywood wants to film any Jungle Scenes for a Movie. King Kong (1976), South Pacific, Jumanji, all the Jurassic Parks, The Descendants, Soul Surfer, North, North Shore, Flight of the Intruder, Dinosaur, Fantasy Island (TV Series), Six Days Seven Nights, Lilo & Stitch, Jungle Cruise, F9, and a ton more! I remember when Tropic Thunder was here filming. They rented my new Box Truck to use in the movie as a “Film Crew” Vehicle. They painted it up for the Movie and when they returned it, they had to paint it back to it’s original color. I mean, to the minute of detail of factory finish. I was like, you guys don’t HAVE TO do that. Close enough was fine. But they were willing to spend a lot of money to return my truck better than new! So from then on, I never wondered again why they use up Millions of Dollars to Film a Movie! 🤷‍♂️ I also got to meet Nick Nolte! And let me tell you! His hair and rough look in the movie was NOT done by the makeup department… it was ALREADY Movie Perfect ! 😅

Well, I mean, yeah, it does matter. If it were just RDJ playing blackface and none of the context were there, it actually would be pretty horrible. What Kirk Lazarus is doing is super messed up, therefore, RDJ playing him is hilarious. I love how the “for 400 years speech” comes in the context of him copping a beef about Alpa making a bunch of Aussie jokes. He goes from offended about Australian jokes to offended about “the N-word” in the same conversation. Brilliant.

Downey Jr's character is definitely a stab at over the top method actors like Daniel Day Lewis, where most movie-goers don't know what the actor actually looks like outside of a role, and going a bit meta with it that the actor himself doesn't even know who he is after so many roles.

Seems like it. Could be also a parody of old Hollywood's approach of casting white actors as different ethnicities, with sometimes hillarious results like John Wayne's Genghis Khan or my personal favourite (because it is quite good from the acting standpoint, just ludicrous in concept), Audrey Hepburn as Native American in The Unforgiven (she was also cast as a Native woman in Green Mansions couple years prior but that movie is absolutely forgotten).

"Full retard" became as big as a catchphrase as "Show me the money". I tell ya Justin Thoreaux I'll bet has at least another three or four great comedy scripts like Tropic Thunder in him. Or even ones he wrote already but with this stupid sensitive PC climate who knows if they'll ever see the light of day. Comedy needs to be rescued!

Can't agree with Napoleon Dynamite, it was just a bit too stupid for me (not saying you need to be stupid to enjoy it, just the jokes didn't land for me), but I have to add Super Troopers to this list. It's just too damn funny, time and time again. XD

Anyone catch AlphaChino screamed like a little girl when Tug kicked the director's head away, and then covered his mouth to stop the scream? From what I learned, Tom Cruise just adlibbed the dance and by pure serendipity, the dance sinc'ed with the music they wanted.

You got to hand it to Ben Stiller, he's starred in some of the funniest movies ever made in the last 25 - 30 years. Something About Mary, Meet the Parents, Zoolander, Tropic Thunder.

When they're around the fire talking about how no one read the script and Downey shouts 'What the fuck you talkin bout, "script, no script", spit that shit out boy!' Proceed to Downey giving the most hilarious smile to stare facial expression.

Tropic Thunder is a satirical masterpiece. I would love if they made a sequel mocking the woke and PC culture that’s plaguing Hollywood these days.

One of the best scenes for me (besides all the Tom Cruise scenes) was the "what do you mean YOU people scene. That was amazing. The themes touched upon there could not have been done better. It would have to be done by actual african american actors, it would be a drama and it would have to be the focus of the whole movie. I just loved how the movie condensed really difficult and complex themes in so short exchanges.

Shocks me every time I watch it and see Ben Stiller Directed/Co-Wrote and Produced it. He's Not the funniest in it, but thank god he decided to do it because it is an absolute classic that ive watched at least ten times. And RDJ is a treasure. He is perfect in the role and Obviously his season on SNL made him a comedic genius.... Oh and there is a woman in this movie, Stillers wife(exwife?), the girl from Dodgeball is in the clip of Simple Jack. Just the perfect amount of woman in it, about 20 seconds....

“I fuckin hate movies”. .Jack Black improvised that line…gotta watch the audio commentary..RDJ really doesn’t break character until the DVD commentary is finished. He’s Kirk throughout the whole commentary track and it’s priceless. He beefs Jack Black for being late. Shout out to Justin Theroux for writing the screenplay with Ben Ben Stiller.

RE: films that nail Hollywood. Nothing surpasses Blake Edward's S.O.B. He knew where all of the bodies were buried and he dressed them up and put them on display. More 1970's Hollywood but still fantastic.
