Happy New Year, guys! It is officially 2019, and one of my New Year's Resolutions that I said I had in that previous livestream was to film the Illinois monthly siren test for January. At first, I wasn't sure if the sirens would test since today was a holiday, but then Mitchell (Montecat 33) texted Northwest Central Dispatch (NWCD) and confirmed they would be testing on New Year's Day. I was also pretty indecisive whether to film an ACA Alertronic AL-6000R or ACA P-50, but due to a shortage of time, I ended up filming Rolling Meadows's Alertronic.
This one is located at the Rolling Meadows Fire Department Station 15 off of Meadow Dr and is a rare, duel-toned siren. Although this Alertronic doesn't have a wind-down, but still has an amazing cut-off. Rolling Meadows use to have two other Alertronics as well as this one: the one by the Motel 6 & the other by the Holiday Inn Express, but unfortunately, got replaced with T-128's, so this is the only one remaining. However, this Alertronic seemed to test a minute later than usual test time, but still tested for about 1 minute 20 seconds of alert. You'll also be able to hear an ambience of an ASC T-128, Schaumburg's ACA P-50, one of Palatine's Federal Signal 2001's, & Arlington Heights's Whelens (including the one that goes off longer).
Anyways, I'm glad I finally got a take of this siren doing the monthly test, and can now knock it off my bucket list. Duel-toned sirens are rare to find, especially today since most of them have gotten replaced already. Cook County and most of Illinois test their sirens on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00 AM.
