No boat work this week as we're off for Thanksgiving.
In the mean time we are starting the search for a mast! Duracell needs a new rig and we would like to find one second hand. If you know of or have heard of a leftover, discarded, for sale used, or broken (but repairable) mast that is at least 70' long, please consider sending us a message. We are willing to drive to get it, so anywhere in the continental US or Canada. We've got a new email address: theduracellproject@gmail.com, so please send us a note if you've got a lead on something.
Next week we will be getting into more boat work. The real project begins as we start to cut open the boat.....stay tuned.

I removed a Seldén in-mast furling mast from a Discovery 55 Mast, Spreaders and rigging only. It does have swept back spreaders witch can be altered if necessary. The mast is 75’ long Profile measures 324/169 Let me know if your interested The mast is located in Fall River Ma

Just an idea; Now when you're making that big of a refit, what about doing a free standing carbon masts as cat ketch? Smaller sails are easier to handle, no headsails and no need for big winches and no stays, shrouds or other nicknacks to break. And no leaky chainplates. :) Needs of course some reinforcements to the boat and some consultancy from naval architect.

It's a very fun idea. Our previous boat LOUISE was originally rigged as a cat ketch, with a free standing rig in the bow. I love the simplicity. For our application, I would like to use as close to the original sail plan (slightly less SA) as possible to maintain some of the boats performance as it was designed. Plus it looks like I may be able to find a used mast at a great price, cutting down on time and $$$. Thanks for watching and keep the comments coming. Welcome Aboard!

How did you get on with biosecruity cruising with a cat? Maybe that's not an issue in some of the smaller Pacific nations.

We got her in Mexico and as long as she didn’t leave the boat in French Polynesia, she was legal. Hawaii is strict so we had to fly her home and have family care for her
