Hello Matt, My name is Scott Davis. Mike Plant was my step father, I am very happy to see someone doing something with Duracell. That boat holds many memories for me and my family. I wish you the best of luck with this and if you need any advice I have been building composite race boats and components for the last 25 years.

I wish your episodes were longer. 20-30 minutes is perfect IMO for boat refit vids

You should have kept the tanks in tack for floatation, or freshwater. I mean you have sold water tight tanks. Just a thought.
@TheDuracellProject
@TheDuracellProject 2 года назад
We will be cutting down the bigger tanks, but not eliminating them, and using them for fresh water. Each tank will carry 500 gals of fresh water.

Nice your mate Scott is a Rigger. Same mainly Mechanical and Demolition Rigging add Industrial Abseiling etc. I’m catching up binging. My Grandfather was a Shipwright and then served in the Merchant Navy WW1 etc. His hand tools had his fingers worn into the handles. The last boat he built was a speed boat project with his son, my uncle when he was 18. I was 3-4.

What are your plans for the keel? Swing, Center board, Shallow draft. It would be nice to still have the tall rig and take advantage of the boats performance.
@TheDuracellProject
@TheDuracellProject 2 года назад
That’s a big question to answer. The short answer is we want to make the keel shorter (than 12’) and the rig shorter. We have to find a mast before the keel can be redesigned. We have a ways to go.

So where are you putting the traveler then?
@TheDuracellProject
@TheDuracellProject 2 года назад
Hey, good question. The traveler bulkhead is getting extended up to be the aft wall of the doghouse, as you have seen. There are 2 options as I see it. I'm either going to put the traveler on top of the doghouse, or ditch the traveler and do a bridle system. I'm actually leaning towards the latter. Either way that area is going to be heavily built to accept either.

Matt love your work. What design was Louise and where is she now? 🐟
@TheDuracellProject
@TheDuracellProject 2 года назад
Louise is a 39 foot foot, home designed and home built sloop by a good friend of mine in Seattle who lived on Louise for 35 years, then sold it to us in 2016. We loved Louise. We sold Louise to a deserving sailor in Bellingham about a year ago.

Awesome - great series! Out of interest (may have missed it), but why does the bulkhead need to be moved back? Just for better space?
@lego720
@lego720 2 года назад
My thoughts exactly! Seems like the main bulkhead was strategically placed exactly where it needs to be.
@TheDuracellProject
@TheDuracellProject 2 года назад
Thank you!! For the layout to work, while making as few modifications to the structure as possible, I had to move the bulkhead. If I keep it where it is, the benches in the doghouse and the beds underneath would either be almost 8 ft long, or the old bulkhead would be right down the middle of the living space. It's hard to explain, and I hope that I can do a better job of showing how it will work in the upcoming videos. Good question.

Are you putting in new ballast tanks?
@TheDuracellProject
@TheDuracellProject 2 года назад
The big ballast tanks are forward in the boat. We'll be cutting those down and using them for fresh water, which will still be hikeable.

Disappointing that you're taking an old boat and going to make it look like a really old boat. With all the volume and freeboard of the old 60s you could do something a little more exciting.
