@@zissimoskalarrytis3865 the works name ist Heimskringla, one of the artists name is Christian Krohg. I guess you will be able to find the other ones from there.
In Holmegard they gathered, every powerful man There was a Thing to be held, and they wore their best capes Stately giants sat around the long table And mead in big bowls for the long night And the king came into the hall and sat down on broadest bench And all who were there, they offered him a drink And it was said of King Harold, he was that kind of guy All the bowls he emptied, and stood the very next day
I love the culture of my ancestors so much. Norwegian and Native American. Two cultures that were so different, yet so similar in their spiritual ideals and traditions. Not to mention their arts.
In north eastern canada, what we call/called Markland you have/had a mixture of us and the natives we called Skrælings. They fled from Greenland(who also is a mixture), when tings turned bad there, climate and the black death causing the shipping to stop westwards, that and unions happened in 1319. They killed the bishop on Greenland and turned heathen again. Not all though. I do not remember the name of this tribe, they assimilated very fast when the french came. Their religion/rites was a mixture of ásatru, native religion/customs and Christianity. Sadly I do not remember the name of these other than it started with M i think. Not much is known about them. I am so sorry I cannot sauce you. But if Arild Hauge's web pages are still up, he should have some info there. It's an old site from the 90ies. Very good, but don't expect flashy stuff, it's the content that matters.
This story happened once in olden times In front of your eyes you see the band go past Far into the land of mist they slowly disappear And back is The Grey Isle, were the sea breaks in
This only enhances my desire to learn Norwegian and Swedish (the Swedish from other medieval/medievalist and viking-age work). Not only is there a decent chance of getting a post-doc in The North, but now there is awesome music that I Must Understand. Thank you for posting.
Now the english words, no rhyming (not that much of a poet): By the Grey Isle in Western Sea in fog and rain The sea breaks to the shore with news from olden times Deep into the land of mist three great ships you see And forward from wooden helm, nine dragonheads as well And on the closest ship stands a tall man King Harold and his kin travels to Holmegard In his band were Toke, Grim and Verge-Tor And many famous giants sat onboard by the oars
You can try write Harald Foss an e-mail. RU-vid won't let me link the web address, but if you google "Legende Harald Foss" you will find his webpage (Legende-dot-no) with info about recordings and contact.
A bit late to the party, but to everyone asking about the artwork, the ones signed 'LM' are made by Norwegian illustrator Gerhard Munthe, I think. Hope this helps!
At island's grey and vesterhav In mist and in drizzle Ocean crashing to the shore With bids from yesteryear Three large ships you see Far into the fog With nine dragon heads, And tarred pine stern And the foremost ship that stands in stern, One high raised vessel King Harald and his Followers Assemble against Holmengard In his Entourage were Toke, Grim and Verge-Tor And several other famous fighters Put the oars on board In Holmengard they gathered Every man who was powerful There was a Thing to be held And they wore their best robes (1) Stately fighters around the long table were set And mead in large bowls for the whole night long And the King then came into the hall, Sat down on the broad bench And all who were gathered there They bowed on their sidebench It is said about King Harald, He was that kind of guy That all bowls he drank out, And stood to the next day (INTERLUDE) This poem had took place once, In ancient ancient time Before your eyes you see The procession go past Far Into the fog they slowly disappear And behind lies Holmen Gra, Where the sea breaks
What is this song about? :) Oh, Harald Foss is incredible! I would like to see descriptions, if not lyrics with translations, for all those songs, can you do that, please? Thank you in advance!

i think that when he said "at alle boller drak an ut", they should have shown a picture of a drinking person. there is a picture of men drinking from horns in other videos. in general, for all videos, it would be nice, if the pictures would match the lyrics. even though that would mean more work to the editor, the video would become much better and interesting.
I may be born in Sweden. But i have Norwegian part in my mothers side. And why do i undertsand every word despite i only understand bokmål. Its inside me. Deep in my soul.
Helt Enig. Vi burde lære våre barn å hedre våre forfedre. Mer givende og viktigere en å lære ungenen våre Britney Spears, eller hva det nå er de lærer å synge i dag.
Thulean Perspective/Varg probably got the heart in the right place but he has some weird and extreme opinions about certain things, in my opinion, which will never appeal to any large group of people. People like The Golden One or Richard Spencer are better, more inspiring and more realistic.
@@thoorwulfn9z383 Spencer has lost his way a bit the last years in my opinion. Though not in the way you think. He has gotten very arrogant. His fame got to this head i guess. I like The Golden One, there are also many good british nationalists, like Mark Collett and the 'Absolute state of britain' guys. You can find faults with anyone, probably urself too. That doesnt mean one should tolerate cucking etc. of course, but one should be carefull not to purity spiral too much also, because then you'll end up alone. You have to have some balance, tactic and be realistic. My own political opinions are very close to that of The Golden One. Who are these supposedly shills you claim he is friends with?
You are not racist by saying that, and never belive you are! Islam is a religion not a race and criticising it is not any diffrent from criticising christianity or any other religion or even political ideology. Wanting a indigenous culture and the native people simply to exist and survive in their homeland is not racism, on the contrary, its the exact opposite of racism. Nobody would ever claim it was racism if is was a non-european person sayings this, its only apparantly "racism" when a european want his culture to exist, which, ironically, is in it self racism, everyone else gets these privileges except us. I think all people and cultures should have the right and protection to exist and survive in their native homeland/homeregion, including Europeans.
Naz 94 im really sorry if i offended you, really i have nothing against Muslims i also like the culture, i may not agree with everything but its really intresesting .
Hailstorm Dj no need to apologise ^^ meh, i wasnt offended :P i understand your fears of not wanting to lose old traditions. i just didnt want you to feel like all of us want to take this away from you. id it rather stay the way it is too :P
I am not sure it is for fear of national pride. I cannot speak to the schools in Norway, but music education in general really lacks for anything prior to the Baroque period in my experience. Outside of very niche music circles, very few people even realize that 'In Taberna Quando Sumus' should not sound like someone trying to summon satan, but is a happy drinking song. Here it is a training-bias on the part of teachers. Of course, I live in the US, where excess nationalism causes problems.
