Massive objects collect matter in an accretion disk and friction heats the material up. In the resulting plasma electrical currents are generated, which in turn induce magnetic fields. As a result, a small portion of the streaming matter is torn in two and pushed on opposite sides along the field lines and perpendicular to the accretion disk into the interstellar or even intergalactic medium at relativistic speed. These jets are observed in the radio wavelength range. Harald Lesch and Josef M. Gaßner discuss the basics and current details about Blazar TXS 0506+056.
