In Islam, there are specific prohibitions for both males and females, with certain rules particularly emphasized for women. Below are some of the key haram (forbidden) things for females, along with relevant Quranic verses and Hadiths.
1. *Indecent Dressing and Lack of Modesty*
Women are required to dress modestly, covering their bodies appropriately to maintain decency.
*Quran:*
“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms...” (Surah An-Nur, 24:31).
*Hadith:*
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Any woman who takes off her clothes anywhere other than her husband’s house, has broken Allah’s shield upon her." (Sunan Ibn Majah, 3750).
2. *Intermingling with Non-Mahram Men*
Unnecessary mixing and being in secluded situations with non-mahram (those who a woman can potentially marry) men is forbidden to prevent any form of immorality.
*Quran:*
“And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts.” (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:53).
*Hadith:*
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “A man should not be alone with a woman unless there is a Mahram with her.” (Sahih Bukhari, 5233; Sahih Muslim, 1341).
3. *Engaging in Extramarital Relationships*
Adultery and fornication are strictly prohibited in Islam.
*Quran:*
“And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.” (Surah Al-Isra, 17:32).
*Hadith:*
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “There is nothing which has a greater reward in the sight of Allah than a man who has a lawful wife and a woman who has a lawful husband.” (Sahih Muslim, 1400).
4. *Engaging in Gossip and Backbiting*
Women, like men, are forbidden from engaging in gossip and backbiting.
*Quran:*
“O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it.” (Surah Al-Hujurat, 49:12).
*Hadith:*
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Do you know what backbiting is?” They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “It is to mention about a man what he does not want to hear.” They said, “What if what I say about him is true?” He said, “If what you say about him is true, you have backbitten him, and if it is not true, you have slandered him.” (Sahih Muslim, 2589).
5. *Disobedience to Parents*
Obedience to parents is highly emphasized, and disobedience is considered a grave sin.
*Quran:*
“And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.” (Surah Luqman, 31:14).
*Hadith:*
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “The Lord’s pleasure is in the parent’s pleasure, and the Lord’s anger is in the parent’s anger.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, 1899).
These guidelines are part of the broader ethical and moral framework in Islam aimed at maintaining social harmony and personal piety.
