I want to specifically point out that the stainless steal, alone, is a big deal. I work with steal every day. Stainless steal for these applications has so many advantages over other materials. The only downside is that, as a builder, stainless steal is more difficult to work with (it is much harder, and requires different tooling than is used for mild steel) and it is MUCH more expensive. So, the fact that Khalid used stainless steel for the bar despite the way higher cost for the raw material as well as the high cost associated with machining it, says a lot about his commitment to quality.

I love Harambe over X3 because I like the equipment better and it markets itself as a good quality band system and not a cult.

Hey Mike, the speed of changing bands actually gets better when you get used to it. A tip from the forums is to layout all of the bands under the board before you start. Makes swapping bands or doubling up on bands fast and easy. One other tip when you get the k bar , try the k sling with the t bar. I know it sounds counter intuitive but for me it made things better with the t bar when doing over head press. At home I use the k bar mainly and it’s been pretty much perfect. Also Khalid, if you’re watching….. get this man t handles and blue ropes to review!

Thanks so much as always Tom. You were someone I knew personally that vouched for the system early on. Those are all great tips and considerations. I will agree that the more you use it, the easier it gets swapping them out. Thanks again Tom and hope all is well with you.

The simplicity of changing the X3 bands out ALONE, is a reason I would never go to this style system. Great video as usual. Bought the X3 because of you and so glad I did. The only difference for me is I prefer for home, the Clench Footplate and the X3 when I travel.
@hybridresistance

Quality aside, I think for many this will be a factor in just personal preference of sling vs hook bars.

So true I tried both systems and yes the engineering part of the harambe Bart feels really nice. However, I've had my X3 bar for about 6 years and it still looks brand new the little coins came off but whatever it's my fault I've slammed the X3 bar a lot. I know the Harambe bar is a great bar but with the slings and all the other accessories that are nice to have I think is too much. (KISS) keep it simple stupid. The X3 bar does that

Dude, I can watch your videos all day! After 20+ years in gym Covid got me into bands and never looked back. I can do movements with bands that my arthritic shoulder will not tolerate with free weights. 56 years old and days of going crazy heavy are over. Thought about buying rack/plates, etc for home (don’t want to go to gyms anymore!) but bands do everything I need at fraction of cost and zero space. Have done cheaper alternatives to X3/Harambe but today am buying the T Bundle. Thanks for all you do!

I just did a Harambe Order, using your code. You're welcome. :) so you see, just because I seem "negative" on some of your videos, or don't agree, doesn't mean I don't support. The longer bar will also always be better, both from a practical standpoint and a physiological standpoint, so it doesn't cramp your body. This is mostly with the width of the X3 Bar, which is overly small, the Harambe T bars are a lot better than that. And the K bar is just perfect, it shouldn't be longer than that either, it's just on the right length. I will note though, that Serious Steel sell both 41 inch (standard band length), 37 inch and 32 inch bands, I'd say that 41 inch is actually not good for band systems, after having tried the 37 inch, but 37 inch and 32 inch are great. Also, I see no reason to prefer a smaller footplate, other than for travel purposes. ALSO, just a tip.. when you do things about your head, try to put th bands OVER your hands, before starting, that way, when you stand up and have the bar above your head, the bands are behind your hands and much less annoying. I hope you know what I mean, like.. when setting up, the band that goes across the bar, put your hands under that and grap the bar, then get down and get into a good position, stand up and there it is.

Thank you my friend! I'm looking at doing a separate video on this and for sure there's individual preference, but I definitely notice a difference having a shorter bar with an equal distance plate. Not really the same, but it's similar on how doing a bicep curl with a standard barbell than compared to 4ft bar. I also say the band length (and size in general are up for personal preference). I own have reviewed both the 32 and 37 SS, which I do use for various things, but my personal presence is still 41 by default. Thank you for the comments / tips

Great review as always, i see Harambe has the new T bar V2 a little bit thicker, probably would feel better. I was on the fence between the X3 bar system and the Harambe, but found the Harambe a lot more expensive to ship to Australia and on top of that, Harambe charges $150 US for a duty tax on top of the normal price and shipping, never in 20 years buying equipment have i been charged a duty tax, you only get charged that if your country charges duty tax, but we don't in Australia. I asked Harambe about the rason for the Tax but they never got back to me. The X3 bar $ 900 Aussie, Harambe $1700 Aussie $ WOW

It looks like the shorter foot board causes the bands to pull the attachment points towards your wrists on certain exercises. I wonder if you tried them on the original board if it would alleviate that issue?

Hi Mike, thanks for the video. I spoke with you a while ago and have decided to get one of the Harambe systems as a home gym, and to slowly phase out my gym membership. I think I would prefer the shorter T-Bar over the K-Bar since it will be lighter and easier to hold -- important as I have little experience with barbells. I worry that with the shorter bar the variety of exercises will be restricted, and that it will not be suitable for those beyond a certain height and build (I'm 5'9" and currently quite skinny) -- what are your thoughts?
@hybridresistance
@hybridresistance 2 месяца назад
I hear you Jack, I honestly would say the k bar is the better option for the points you noted at the end. The shorter bar can be a little limiting and can pinch in bit further limiting the distance.

Often take a few loop resistance bands when traveling in a small RV and they work well. This looks appealing, but honestly sounds a bit finicky compared to the X3. Just want it to work with little time spent adjusting anything. Right now my bands, a sling and a carabiner work well. Plus, the bands are easy and in expensive to replace. Used to take a suspension trainer too, but find the bands do most of what I need (plus I usually can find a few heavy rocks or some logs to lift to add to the workout). Any preference then between this and the X3? X3 stock bands are a standard 41” size and heavier (higher resitance) if I recall? So that’s a plus…the base on the Harambe seems better though. Appreciate the review..and yes, you did need some flexibility for those back squats!

This video is a little old but it's still kind of what I think between the two ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E6tU2i0SIM4.html actually packed the x3 on a recent trip. Harambe makes better quality bands, but my favorite are the paraforce x3 bands that you have to upgrade to.
@Mr2004MCSS
@Mr2004MCSS 8 месяцев назад
Nice review. IMO, here is the best way to put the slings on the bands. Put the bands under the plate. Hang the slings on the bar with the farthest sling on the bar first and let the sling closest to you hang free. Reach through the loop of the band and grab the sling that is hanging free and slide it around the pulley. Once you get this down it only takes about an extra second or two to attach the bands to the bar. If you use the T bar with the regular size foot plate you don't have the issue of the slings angling towards the middle of the bar since the bar and plate are about the same length. Obviously when you travel you will probably want to take the T plate so will have to deal with the slight angle of the slings.

For X presses with t bar, are green ropes better or black standard? I am planning to buy t bar with black standard ropes but I am wondering whether I need extra pair of green ropes exclusively for X presses

You'd want the shortest ropes possible in my opinion. But it's been awhile since I've messed with my harambe bar to know for sure.

Thank you for the informative content. I would love to hear your opinion on which is the best complete system to get for a home gym on a budget. Maybe a video? Leverage, total gym, X3/harambe, smart gym, or just a power rack and barbell? From your experience what are you recommending to the average person wanting a system to get the most bang for your buck? Thanks again.
@sydneybird116
@sydneybird116 8 месяцев назад
Mike might suggest a $30 Total Gym from the thrift store. I think that he needs to know your budget. I would not say that the X3, Harambe, or smart gym should be in the same sentence as budget.
@hybridresistance
@hybridresistance 8 месяцев назад
If we're talking budget, Sndney is right. A used sliding bench trainer is very hard to beat. I spent 3 years basically using those for my sole resistance training. But it also does depend on what kind of budget we're talking about, your goals, and general training interests as well. I got a related video for tomorrow about, rebuilding my gym with stuff on sale, but it's not really a budget video.

Are there any special storage requirements for exercise bands, do they need to be stored in an airtight container or can they just be hung on a rack? If hung on a rack will they dry out?

AFAIK the only real concern is to avoid UV light, so I wouldn't hang them in a room that gets sunlight. I keep mine in a black plastic box in a room that gets sunlight and they're fine.

why does using bar with bands hurts my inner elbow worse the dumbbells?
@hybridresistance
@hybridresistance 4 месяца назад
Could be a number of things, but my best guess is the band weight might be too much. Could also just be the bar / exercise just isn't right for you. I'm definitely in the camp that bands can still cause joint pain and there's nothing special them over free weights. I think a lot of the "it feel better on the joints" is really just going slower with tempo and the generally lighter loads with bands people are using.
