Sher- e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura organised a one-day workshop cum seminar on rights of women at workplace & sexual harassment of female employees at workplace” for the staff and students of the college. The guest expert for the seminar was an eminent speaker & a well-known name in the law Mr. Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani (Retd) . Chief Guest emphasized on the importance of being aware of your morality and driving one's moral compass towards betterment. He also laid emphasis on the role of a man to provide safe environment for the women to work and prosper in. In his ending remarks the chief guest of the occasion said that speaking out any kind of harassment happening with them in order to address them properly and one should be aware of rights in order to exercise them properly .
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof Dr. Raihana Habib Kanth, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Wadura, who in her address stressed on the fine line to be drawn at the workplace to prevent the occurrence of sexual harassment at the workplace and how one can be self aware to save oneself and others from indiscrimination and any kind of Harrassment. She also mentioned that the institute has constituted a Committee for the Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Female Employees and Students to create a sense of safety and provide a secure environment for females in the campus. She build a sense of involvement with her remarks on the concerned topic with the students so that women come forward and support each other.
In her address , Advocate (Ms) Masooda Jan explained the prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment cases. The seminar emphasised gender bias and other related issues at workplaces and various Dos and Don’ts for the prevention of such unwanted actions and behaviours.
Dr Shaheen, chairperson Women at Workplace Committee , SKUAST-K welcoming the guests & audience conveyed the role of the committe and promised solving the cases while keeping confidentiality.
During the question-answer session, the students shared and enquired the information about various related aspects. Dr Javed, Prof & Head Vet Biochemistry proposed the Vote of Thanks. The event was coordinated by Dr Rehana Rasool & Dr Rakhshanda members of WAWP Cell of Faculty Of Agriculture Wadru . All of the staff members and more than 150 students attended the seminar especially all the girls students of the faculty.
