I bought one 5 months ago. The drawers dont stay shut if you move it, but I dont move it around. I am still pleased with this box. I looked at a lot of boxes, and so far I still believe this is the best cost/quality compromise...
I have the black 4 drawer tool cart from HF and I run into this problem every time I wheel my cart around the garage. Thanks for the awesome tip. I'm definitely going to make this happen this weekend.
I have this same tool box at work and have more than just the top drawer come open on me every time I move it. I'm gonna fix it now with your fix when I get to work. Thanks for the info.
Good luck. I hope this helps you. Mine is a hobby box, so I am not using it 5 days a week, but think that it is an easy fix. Enjoy the box, and thanks for watching.
I bought the 72 inch about 4 months ago and hated the latches. I saw a guy with a 5 drawer do it with the magnets out of the HF magnet bar (that used to be free). There are 8 individual magnets in it that can get out. You stack 2 on the back of the drawer and you don't need to glue them. The drawers that will come open will self close about the last inch.
I have a 5 year old model in matt red finish. It's a great heavy duty box used daily in a fab shop building commercial signage. Rolling it around yes the drawers come open. Just lock it before you move it. The lock on mine functions smoothly and it's really no problem at all. What brought me here is that on a recent trip to HF the new 44" boxes felt flimsy compared to my older one. I'm sure thinner gauge steel is being used. Has anyone else noticed this?
Thank You, really liking this box. Just want to be sure it's on a 'sale', they seem to rotate on and off sale. It's to the point that I'm never sure what a good deal is on one.
They seem to be consistently "on sale" for about $370'ish. I believe that is about what I paid for mine several years ago. It has been a great box for me. I hope you enjoy it if you get one. Thanks for watching! R.J.
Hey R.J. , was on sale for $349!, when I got there, they offered me an "open box" one for $299! Looked it over, all there, no problems - and i Love it! thanks for the video!. Man, it's nice to finally have a decent tool chest.
That is great. You can't beat luck some times. I got a trailer from HF in a similar way once. Enjoy the box, and keep an eye out, hopefully late this summer I hope to do some add on's for my box. R.J.
Smart thinking, R.J. and now you have me plotting and planning on fixing up my tool chests at home... Glad to see you publishing videos! How long until you head South? Best wishes, Tom Z
+Tom Zelickman (Inspiration Metalworks) Not until approx. 10/1. Ordered microphone today. Hopefully that will get me much better for the next one. Thanks for watching.R.J.
Snap on has the lock & roll feature which has a long plastic bar under the lid of the drawer and a catch on the side of the drawer and they come in different lengths. Maybe one of the snap on would work under the drawer, it might be too wide, I don't know but it's worth looking into it, just a thought.
The magnets have been working great for me for a few years now, but I am sure that there are many ways to get the desired result. Thanks for checking out my video and the comments. R.J.
EXCELLENT IDEA, I have the bigger HF chest & I'm going to do this, can you give me the NAME & Part number of the magnets and where you got them?? Thanks
Sorry, Numa, I can't give you those to you simply because I bought them 15 years ago and have had them kicking around in the tool box since then. I bought 20 or 30 of them and I put one in each of the oil pans of engines that I build. I believe that I bought them from Radio Shack years ago. Sorry I couldn't help more.
Hi, you said you used super glue but you also called it by a different name, something "acetate" or whatever? Do you recommend a particular glue? Awesome tip. Thanks for sharing the video!
Matt, cyanoacrylate is the chemical name for Super Glue. I get mine at the local Hobby Town in larger bottles for building models, but any brand of Super Glue would work. Thanks so much for watching.
Yes, I understand. This was my first video ever, so I didn't have any microphone to work with. I will try to bump up the volume someday if I can figure out how. Thanks for watching and commenting. R.J.
