My first time using the new green spray gun from Harbor Freight, and comparing it to the new and very improved purple gun ($15) and SP-33000 spray guns. The green gun sprays well but seems to be a lower quality gun than the less expensive new purple gun!

I gotta try that new purple gun but that sprayit is a must, I have it and I love it

Thanks! My green gun had the same issue where the inner nozzle was stuck.

that's called the fluid tip and they stopped giving out the wrenches, they are no longer telling people to remove it for cleaning and I agree. just unscrew everything except the fluid tip and put them into a 1 gallon ziplock bag, pour lacquer thinner in and shake. clean the fluid needle separately to avoid damage

Those fluid tips on cheap guns ALWAYS come way over tightened... they throw so much threadlocker and oil all through those guns. If you take the time to clean them out you usually get a decent tool. Its just annoying. Just to throw it out there. If you remove the fluid tip with your needle still in the gun under spring pressure, you run a risk of getting a leak where the needle seals, the cheaper guns barely hold liquid as it. I own two of the sprayit 3300s, I bought he 1.7 upgrade tip and use one for primer. Absolutely love those.

No sirr that sprayit 33000 is awesome, it ain't slow it's great. Sprayed a whole car with ease, and you can do it with a small compressor. Now that green gun I haven't tried cause Underground paint King did a review on it and it was trash,. But the sprayit is definitely a must I'm speaking from experience

I think the new purple gun is better than the green, have more experience with them now. I will use the green for primer sealer only from now on. Will use the purple for metallic acrylic enamel. Will try the sprayit more too. I was using that little plastic filter probably not a good idea.

I got the green gun a couple of weeks ago, haven't used it yet. I just checked it, the chrome cap unscrews fine but the inner piece does not. I have a cheap 19mm open end wrench which is very thin to fit the 'piece' It distorted when I tried to loosen that piece. I'll get back out there tomorrow and maybe grind down a better quality wrench or modify the piece some - it has to be able to be removed.

yup, exactly what I was talking about! HF is very good at replacing these guns with mfg defects. (actually I may have spoken about the problems in a different video?)

Rob, I had a cheap open-end wrench I ground down then used a flap disc to clean it up some. It was a 3/4" and fit the HF piece under the spray cap well. I removed the piece and cleaned everything. Now I just have to wait for some nice weather to paint up my free fiberglass canoe with Rustolem. This gun will work just fine for this project. thanks.

from what I've understood those cheapo purple and green guns the spray gun fluid tip is not supposed to be removed which is why they stopped including the wrench. but aside from that I've not seen a need to remove it to clean it. I use a 1 gallon ziplock back, unscrew the needle and caps and throw it all in the bag, not at the same time, the body than the cap and needle go in separately to prevent them banging against each other

it is my understanding and experience that it is really necessary (at least at times) to fully disassemble and clean a spray gun. It may just be to inspect to be sure nothing is building up which could potentially clog or at least restrict paint flow, this may depend on what you spray and how you clean it. for example, I've noticed that water based paints will not clean up even with repeat flushing with clean water, it may flow through clean but there can still be paint inside.

@@rob12449 I spray automotive paint so I didn't realize latex paint or whatever water based paint you were talking about. There's a cleaning trick where you put your finger on the nozzle to back flow the thinner when cleaning the gun, try plugging the cap holes with your finger while you pull the trigger, it will cause the thinner to bubble up at the inlet where the paint comes in. it hopefully might work for you
@rob12449
@rob12449 3 года назад
@@eksine thanks I will try that. when I use auto paint and clean with lacquer thinner it seems to do a thorough job at dissolving it, I do not take the cap off every time but once in a while I still like to check it out.

@@eksine I know about that finger trick as well but you still have to get inside that tip. I just cleaned a bumper cleaned the gun without breaking it down and shit was blowing out when I recleared I had to stop and break it back down and clean all on the top and all
@eksine

@@greddmyles3677 if you're talking about car paint I've had it where there was some dried clear coat stuck behind a tip but that was only after like 6 months of spraying a lot most of the time you don't need to remove the tip just the cap

Great review! Which one do you recommend in painting deck rails on a deck? Thanks....
@mpikas
@mpikas Месяц назад
I"m sure that you've figured something out by now but if not... If those are your choices, deck paint and stain tend to be pretty thick stuff, out of those guns I would grab the purple gun and drill out the nozzle (there's a few videos on here about modifying it for latex paint or for spraying primer). Honestly most deck finishes are not that fussy, I have a friend that was doing that kind of work professionally and his setup was a pump sprayer with a few gallon tank and a wand that he drilled a hole in the side of the tank and added an air fitting. If I remember right he had the compressor regulator set to 30psi and used the wand nossle to spray, and the capacity of the tank was enough that he could do most of a deck without refilling. If I was going to buy a gun specifically for it, I'd look at primer guns with the big (1L/1quart) aluminum cup, a suction feed primer gun or maybe even a pressure pot primer gun. All of them will be do a good job right out of the box.

Your review of the green gun is completely the opposite of everyone else's and their documentation, which says that it's intended only for spraying thinner material. Everyone else that I"ve seen review it, and the one that I have, spray lighter stuff well but are really pretty horrible at anything heavier like primers and such. I will agree that the purple gun is better built, and I wouldn't be surprised if there have been a dozen different versions over the years (my oldest might be 20years old now), and I have 3 or 4 of them around and they're all different. They have gotten better cap designs over the years, but the thing that they all have in common is that they do not spray a lot of volume. I've gotten frustrated with my newest one (I got it during Covid) when as one of my projects I built an 8' long desk for my kids for "at home learning" and it was just taking WAY too long to spray water based poly out of it. I ended up dumping the cup into the HF gun that used to be sold for $6x or $7x (It may be discontniued, I saw it earlier this hear on sale for $49) which sprays MUCH more like a professional gun.

Thank you for sharing your view, I do agree the green gun is recommended for thin or light fluid. What you say about the purple gun is what I have experienced, that it keeps changing and I guess the cfm is what keeps it from spraying fast. I have not said it but the hvlp stamped on the side is a joke because it is not hv with such a low cfm rating.

Only the sprayit w33000 operates at low CFM.. all the other guns require a large 220v compressor
@rob12449
@rob12449 3 года назад
I have used all guns with same small compressor, they use approximately the same cfm because I have even run the gun full open and watched the pressure drop of compressor.

Worst part of these guns are the cups. The top does not seal good and drips on your paint. Get the metal one or the plastic though sways. Better yet HFT has a copy of the 3m type.

their disposable cups seal good, look cheap but seal good, use teflon tape. wait did you use teflon tape?
