I got one 3 days ago very impressed. Basically the wave with few differences but fraction of the cost. Wave I bought years ago took over a month to be smooth so I'm giving the gordon benefit of a doubt. Leatherman needs to stop going crazy high on prices. 20 price increase in a year and a half. This tool only has a 90 day warranty but you could buy 2 more for price of a Wave. The gordon tool once in hand will impress you. Great review for potential buyers 2 thumbs up in my humble opinion.
Thanks for the info! I agree you could buy a couple for the price of the wave if one broke. I think I’ll put this one in the fishing bag, so I’ll see if it smooths out over time.
I picked up one and it was smooth right out of the box. It’s a keeper. The HF I go to didn’t have it on the shelf and had to look for it in the back. No one there even knew it existed. Once exposed it was the talk of the store. Took me an extra 20 minutes to leave since everyone was drooling over it. Too funny.
The Gordon version is more closely based off the original Leatherman Wave as the Gordon multi-tool doesn't have the replaceable wire cutters like the Wave Plus has. I just picked up the Gordon Multi-Tool this past weekend while they had the 20% off deal going on so I got mine for $31.99. The serrated blade isn't quite as aggressive as the serrated blade on the Leatherman. For $30-40 depending on sales, it would be a good cheap alternative to a Leatherman that you can throw in your camping gear, hunting gear, car, etc. The dimensions are slightly different, where the Gordon Multi-Tool does not fit in my custom metal belt holster that I carry my Leatherman Wave+ in.
Some other reviews are starting to come in after use. The main report of the pliers breaking, seems common. Hope that isn't the case... I've just ordered one.
I saw a review from a well respected guy that in I used the $5-$10 Ozark Trail MT and it’s blade and tools scored way higher than they should have. Where it sucked was zero hand comfort and the tools were tight and really hard to open.. but for $5? I could get over that.
I just don't use my multi-tools enough to EDC... Except I will occasionally carry my Gerber Dime for light duty. I might use something with a full size 1/4 hex like the Armbar tho
Gordon multi tool right now is the best in the market but if the pliers are stiff all you have to do is put a little bit of WD 40 and that will fix the issue 😉👍💯.
I have one of these Gordon Multitools and while it is a nicely made tool, I really don’t like the magnetic Phillips / straight edge bit. Almost every time I use it, the bit falls out of its holder. It’s just begging to fall into a place that I can’t retrieve the bit and be lost forever. If I was Harbor Freight, I’d change the design of the bit system to regular 1/4 inch ball detent driver bits.
If you break a tool on the harbor freight one they will just give you a new one if you got the warranty. I wonder if you can take it apart like a Leatherman tool?
I've had a "Suspension" for about 10 years also but the last 5 years I've been carrying a Skeletool CX because I don't like how bulky the Suspension is and I don't like having a sheath on my belt. I'd rather have a pocket clip tool like the Skeletool or the Gordon. As soon as my local Harbor Freight has more in stock, I'll probably go get one 😎✌️
Wave came out in 1998. 26 years later HF comes out with Gordon. Wonder if their patent came to an end? China makes good copies these days, they even copy the mistakes. The original will always be better, and you are supporting your home country.
HAHA, yeah. The Leatherman Wave+ is now $120. So 3 of the Gordon tools for the price of one Leatherman Wave+. Don't get me wrong I love the Leatherman tools, but their prices are getting way out of hand. Their cheapest useful multi-tool is $50. The Leatherman Bond, and the Leatherman Curl are now well over $50...Leatherman has a 25 year warranty, the problem is once they "retire"/discontinue a tool most likely you won't get it fixed they'll want you to buy a new one. I still have my Leatherman Original Multi-Tool, I don't use it anymore due to that issue. I have quite a few different Leatherman Multi-Tools most are discontinued/retired models though.
I have a Leatherman from the mid-nineties that I have on a strap I use it for fishing and camping. My dad has one from the early nineties that I bought for Father's Day once
@@nitric75 Not completely, the Leatherman Wave+ sheath has provisions for the bit kit, or at least the sheath I have does. It has a slot where you can slide one of those bit kit holders into. Thing is it gets pretty bulky adding the bit kit.
@@wildbill23c leatherman some other versions of the sheath. The one that came with my P4 is pretty simple (without the slots for accessories if im not mistaken) but of the same design. Surge's sheath is probably similar to the one u decribed.
If you didn’t want to buy the Leatherman branded ones, there could possibly be a less expensive bit kit available online I’ve never looked for them before.
