**Re-Upload, glitch with RU-vid and audio/video not syncing
***LOAD TEST MYSTERY SOLVED*** the 120V duplex outlets are paralleled on L1 of the inverter unit. My 5k heater on the 240v line is fine, but trying to add more than 1.25kw on L1 overloads it. The configuration I had was putting potentially over 34A on one leg!! No wonder the inverter overloaded!! This is a design flaw of the outlet panel when set to 120/240V rather than 120v only. It should be one duplex outlet on L1 and the other on L2.
****To get the full 7600W you need to balance up to 31.6A on each leg of L1 and L2 using the L14-30 outlet.
A big thanks to ‪@jcondon1‬ and ‪@KensSmallEngineRepair‬ for assisting in giving me the idea to repair the part with a moped/bicycle brake cable kit.
Model # 57080. The part# from Harbor Freight is 603124, the combo switch. It's not an expensive part, and it was easy to order from HF. However their logistics and inventory systems are horrendous. One rep tells me they have stock, then I call 7 days later and another rep says they are backordered....There's a good reason I see logistics positions posted on LinkedIn for HF all the time. They need an overhaul.
I kept the parts order open with them. At this point when the part eventually comes in the customer will have a spare.

I have the HF Hydraulic 1000Ib lift Cart and use it all the time. The 1000 lb version lifts higher, 34-1/2 in. HF currently has a coupon for the 1000lb cart. Nice informative video.

And there are the main reasons I do not buy from Hobo Freight or Amazonia. One lists all the parts you could ever want for the item but stocks none of them {I doubt you will ever see that cable either} and the other misrepresents the items it sells. Great fix but I unfortunately think your excellent replacement will also break because of that poorly designed shutoff/choke selector. There is no "real" spring pulling that choke cable out of the housing so it's gonna twist itself up again in time. Keep up the great work!

Hey Paul you're absolutely right! A matter of fact update as soon as I posted this video and tagged harbor freight in it... The part that I ordered magically shipped and I got the FedEx notification. 100% agreed that my fix and the replacement part will break again definitely a bad design. Still keep in mind 976 hours of using said part and it just finally failed. Either way the repair should kick the can down the road a little bit further for the customer. It's no small chump change at $2,200 new but compared to the Honda it's supposed to be a clone of is far cheaper. It was an interesting repair and plus having the ability to really look it over I can honestly feel comfortable about answering questions about it should people ask me in the future. This is the first time I've seen the 9500 in the shop for me anyway

I am surprised just a normal fuel valve on there. The knobs are terrible. In the run position the fuel valve is only half open. And from run to off it moves the clone cable, but the choke is already open. Would be much better to separate those functions.

I agree I know that Honda likes to combine functions to make it easier for the user but for the mechanic technician we are going to question the sanity of the engineer why they designed it that way. This is also why I prefer Yamaha generators since they have the fuel petcock separate from the ignition switch and the choke lever. All of them are individual components that can be replaced.

I knew what that cable was as soon as you pulled out the switch. Have dealt with a bunch of these on my bikes, replacing them.

Nice work. I usually adjust the valves on the OHV engines, especially with that many hours on it, the Honda's are very hard to start when out of adjustment, and you can get more power when adjusted correctly. I have fixed a few cables with a lead fishing weight crimped on the end of the cable. Usually works good. Thanks for a really nice video.

Thank you! Yeah IDK when they were adjusted last, but I do hear both valves "tick" when running which tells me they have lash on them. After the choke was fixed it fired off in a few cranks. 😁

I think with the hassles/delays in getting the part, I would have drilled a tiny little hole in the side of the case for just a 14 guage copper wire long enough to get the side on with the wire through the side panel, and then make a loop on the end, and instruct the end user to just pull it out when starting and put it back in afterwords. That would have saved such a large disassembly task while waiting for the part.

Wow!!! That was definitely a designed failure point. The way the switch flexes that cable back and forth inside the switch it was designed to eventually cause the cable to break. You should cancel the order on that switch.

its a wonder it didnt break that cable sooner seeing as between run and off it wants to over extend the cable past off choke makes me wonder if that is why they had a ball end on the carb end so the cable can over extend without resistance but then what is the fastner for ..... its clear with the 2 ideas at the carb that its undecided how to solve the issue and they left it if it was me i would leave the cable fastner loose and let the crimp pull the choke closed

Great video and explanation of how to fix. I only have 77 hours on my 9500 (owned about 2 years now), and haven't had any trouble with THAT switch (yet), but good information to know. I would be interested in getting a copy or link to the wiring schematic, as I am having trouble with the START switch. I thought my problem was the battery, but new battery did not fix. Switch works intermittently ... might take half a dozen tries before it works. Any experience with diagnosing or repairing the START switch? FYI for others, for the battery, the one sold by Harbor Freight was the only one I could find to physically fit in the small space allocated for the battery.

@@Bassguitarist1985 I can't find your email address in order to send you mine. Can you please point me to where I can find it? I don't see an "About" tab on your channel where email addresses are usually listed. Since I replied a few days ago, Hurricane Beryl hit and the generator has kept us out of the dark and cool for over 2 days now. If the START switch is faulty, not sure I want to replace with HF version. Are there any other brands you recommend? And, is it possible the solenoid is bad? While trying to start, there are no sounds whatsoever, until there might be a "thump" as solenoid tries to engage starter and then a few tries later it might actually start. After refueling several times now, START switch has not worked the last two times and I have instead used pull rope. Anxious to fix after power is restored to house so I am ready for the next power outage.

@@josephcoriz1221 room humidifier! I have .boiled my strings in water/white vinegar. Cleans them up great, but doesn't really brighten the tone or make them last longer.

Do you know where on the machine you can find the model number and serial number? I'm need some parts for it, but they show two different models.

I had a hard time finding it on the machine. If you bought it from harbor freight if you provide your phone number or some other identifying information like your customer number to harbor freight they can track your purchase and all the pertinent info to the model number. I gave them the phone number to the customer who owns this machine and they were able to find out the exact model and serial number.
