Today we take a look at the newest spray gun from harbor frieght the spectrum hte, we take a look at machining , fit and finish, versatility and over all quality. Item number #64824 spectrum hte
I love watching these videos, especially the ones with way more expensive guns, I’ve shot most of my projects with a Walmart bought Campbell Hausfeld 1.4 gravity gun and the .8 touch up gun, and they lay down paint in spectacular fashion. Both my Camaro and Tahoe were both painted with these guns and I challenge anyone to show me a better gun for the money ($72 for both guns as a kit)
Devilbiss flg5! Same price as the spectrum is normally without any coupons. Flg5 fan pattern is double the size of this one. Flg also has replacement parts. Not sure as of May 2021if harbor freight has replacedment nozzles, and needles for this yet. Both guns spray good! Just adding a opinion.
Aaron gazca I’ve had a couple of requests already for this gun , I’ll see if I can pick on up used for cheap, but there are some guns in front of it first so it’ll have to wait a little.
What’s different internally between the Spectrum HTE and HVLP? If it’s just the air valve could you swap the 1.3 air cap fluid nozzle and needle making a 1.3 tip HVLP or is the air cap also a different design?
I need to spray a Tri coat ceramic pearl on a navigator, do you recommend getting a spectrum HPLV for base coat and pearl and an HTE for the clear ? Or what should I use ? Thanks
High Transfer Efficiency. Less overspray. More material gets on the panel. Waste less material. Drawback. You need a compressor that can keep up with it. High CFM to run it.
Haha I guess I’m not pro ! It’s all good , I always use a regulator , like to make sure pressure isn’t fluctuating and I also use a small air compressor , cheers 🍻
Just got one brand new for $50 on offer up, looks like a quality gun to start with. The guy has another one if anyone is interested. My only issue with the gun is it feels small and awkward in my hand compared to my Neiko primer gun.
Just brought one, set me back $125-20% coupon+ tax. Highly recommend you get the 20% coupon before you entered the store. I haven't try it yet. The sprayer looks nice as stated on the video. Odd enough, my local HF tool ran out and I have to travel to other store. They don't have it on display and you will need to ask the clerk to get it for you from the back warehouse. I guess there are too many 10 fingers discount.
You will love that gun it’s really good ! Worth every penny , I used the hvlp 1.7 for single stage , I have never had a better finish with single stage than with that gun. HTE is the way to go in my opinion
Just A Mechanic Picked the gun you did a review on and to be honest it was worth every penny ! To me ,the finished product is neck and neck with the sata and cheaper! Also took it to work and painted 4 Abrams tanks with it and the paint that was applied was c.a.r.c 686 tan waterborne and it did a phenomenal job! Instead of me going with 4:1:0.5 , I went 4:1:1 and it did great ! Love it !!!!
Tony January So it sounds like you are loving it as much as I loved it?! I truly think it’s one of the best guns they have ever made ! Period! I do think it’s a copy of a sata to be honest, but no way of really telling! Thanks so much for commenting! I hope someone reads your comment and receives some value from it!!! Cheers 🍻
Notonebuttwo Othman i believe you , I sprayed with the hvlp version in my last video and sprayed excellent almost glass, spectrum spray gun is hands down the best Spray gun for the money
Spiro Pittas I’ve had it for over two months and I used it on over 20 cars so far it’s holding great . But you must clean it immediately after using for clear . The thing I like the most about this gun is that I’m able to duplicate factory orange peel on many cars .
Spiro Pittas I really think it depends on who’s hands it’s in, if you clean it after use every time you use I can see it lasting some time, if you don’t clean your guns often than it won’t last very long, that’s basically with almost any gun really . The only draw back I see is no replaceable parts , the air valve made of nylon plastic probably is its weakest point. Other than that it’s a solid gun and I have had great results with it . Definitely worth giving her a go! Cheers 🍻
If you are going to pay over $100 for a spray gun, buy one that has parts available. These don't. Their $20 ones have different sizes air caps available on E-bay. With those cheaper ones you can spray filler primers as well as color base and clear coats. How much do you want to spend?
David Duffield actually harbor freight now supplies parts for this gun. Works excellent and can lay the paint down like glass, but their aren’t too many tip sizes available other than 1.3 or 1.7!. Regardless they spray amazing
Looks like a very nice gun for the money. I've seen them on ebay a bit cheaper. Almost snagged one new in the box the other day for $70 shipped. Somebody beat me to it. Also I think spectrum might still be made by Central Pneumatic. It really resembles the $69 gun with the gold head at Harbor Freight. I own that gun and got it for like $45 out the door on a 25% off weekend. Been spraying with it for about a year and really like it.
@@Mechaniclyfe I just looked up the Eastwood gun and you're right. If they're identical inside you can buy their 1.7 or 2.0 fluid tip sets. Something to think about.
The only thing is it looks different when you see the baffle seal /air valve , but I’m sure another manufacturer makes them for Eastwood , or they both are buying them from the same manufacturer
A cheap Harbor Freight gun is still a complete waste of time. Cheap tools represent the single biggest mistake DIYers make when approaching these types of projects. Also, never look at tools as an expense ~ they are an investment that you can sell once the job is done, and in the end it will cost less than renting. Best budget HVLP Systems: 1st choice: Fuji 2202 Semi-PRO 2 & 2nd choice: Earlex HV5500.
If you are going to paint 1 or 2 cars then 400 to 700 for a gun is a wast of money and I would never buy a used gun because there is probably something wrong with it. The more money spent on over price tools is lest you have for other things.
Who gives a hoot about open box reviews? A three year old knows how to open a box. If the thing sprays like crap no one cares how it looks. What a waste of bandwidth.
Curt Brennan let us know how it does for you so it can help others , thanks for commenting, I’m sure which ever gun you choose , I’m confident you will be happy , cheers 🍻
