A big ol Norway spruce with big pitch pockets brought my milling to a halt. I still have the log & will revisit sawing it once the warm weather comes in. I just have a little basic Hudson Oscar 230 Bandsaw mill. But after sawing from my woods hardwoods and cedar larch & pine for 17 years. The Spruce is the first log I have ever had to roll back off the carriage & pause on sawing.
@@nicholssawmillandmore It was about 100 years old and 29 inches diameter. It was a yard tree at our lake cottage that had died. We had several of them that somebody introduced years ago. There’s a quite a large stand of them across the lake in the forest by an old smelter. Great big cones. Fast growing.
An old sawmill guy told me that If youre sawing hickory eventually the sawyer, the saw filer and the millwright will be mad at each other and swear the other two dont have a clue.
