Find it hard to stand up after sitting? Wonder why you have trouble getting up after sitting on the couch? This video will show you a simple exercise to strengthen legs so you can stand up if you have difficulty rising from a chair.
Difficulty rising from a chair is a common complaint. If you have muscle weakness in your legs or butt, you may have trouble standing up from a chair. Matt shows you a simple home exercise to build leg strength to stand up from a chair. The reason so many people have trouble getting up out of a chair is not arthritis. It's not being "old." The reason you find it hard to stand from sitting is because your hip and leg muscles are weak. This simple drill will help you build leg strength and hip strength so you can stand from sitting easily.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! 🙂❤️ I am recovering from open heart surgery, and was very upset because I was having problems raising up from a sitting position without using my hands to push up. Your exercise suggestion worked immediately!!! I'm going to continue with the exercises to get my usual level of strength back. So again, many thanks.

Thanks man, I’m still young like 16 and my right leg is weak now but I am still decently active; Walking at least 3 miles daily and doing that kind of stuff but I just woke up today and my right leg I stepped out of bed and almost fell back into bed on the right side because it feels weak behind the knee, Forgot what that part is called but there. I can walk just fine but I don’t know whats wrong. Hopefully your video helps me and good job making this video- I’ll reply in about a week or so and give you an update. I also had problems before because I can’t sit on my knees or apply enough pressure to my knees because I was going to fix something under my desk but noticed it felt odd. Thanks again, I will be back in a week!

I have a totally degenerated left hip...the left leg is considerably shorter than the right. It does not like to bend, & I find that the longer I sit or stand, the more it does not want to bend. Will this exercise help or harm me?

I'm 61 I have a hard time setting and standing up. It doesn't have anything to do with joists. I think I feel that problem might be my thigh bones more than muscle. I want to start going for walks again. But I'm not sure if it will make it worse. I work and I'm on my feet 4 hours a day. What can I do. Will these stretches help me?

While we can't say for sure without 1-on-1 training, if you focus on slowly and gradually strengthening your muscles and improving your mobility, you should nonetheless see significant improvements :)

Upright Health thank you! I bought and am returning an extra firm as I’m boney on my back and it has NO give at all. I am now trying medium and will give it a go. A large ‘tennis’ ball is what am using for smaller areas and that I can tolerate well although it is harder on boney hips/spine. 😊. Ty for ur assistance. It would be great for u wonderful men to maybe put a video up on this subject. Maybe u have. I just haven’t found it.

No pain, but the weakness, which got progressive. You need to discuss this with your doctors, hope you‘re better.

What about NEVER deeper than 90 degrees???
@Uprighthealth
@Uprighthealth 4 года назад
Anyone who tells you that misunderstands what humans are capable of. They are also ignoring the fact that nearly the entirety of the Asian population (in Asia) regularly squats deep into old age without any ill effect. That's literally billions of people squatting deep for eons without needing knee surgeries. Somehow westerners who NEVER squat deep, always sit in high chairs, and never learn to use their leg and hip muscles correctly have knee, hip, and spine problems all the time.... 🤔

@@Uprighthealth Thank you. A well known orthopedic surgeon told me that when he sees in a gym people doing deep squats with weights -- he sees his likely surgery future patients -- as they age...
@Uprighthealth
@Uprighthealth 3 года назад
@@Petrov3434 Well-known orthopedic surgeons are well-known for their technical skill in cutting people open without killing them and stitching them back up. This does not mean they understand the actual mechanisms that play in the human body as it relates to loss of range of motion. Dig into the research and you find that most justifications for orthopedic surgeries are based on outdated theories from the 18th, 19th, and early 20th century. The explosion of invasive joint procedures was made possible by antibiotics and leaps in anesthesia technology. Orthos have a tradition of ignoring research that decisively shows their treatments and procedure are utter quackery (see knee meniscectomies, spinal fusions, shoulder impingement, etc. etc. etc.). Even after research is definitive, the surgeries continue because they have already become "standard" care. #inertia

@@Uprighthealth orthopedic surgeons know nothing about cutting into people without killing them. The fact that people don’t die while getting cut into…is the anesthesiologists skill. :)

@@Uprighthealth A famous surgeon once said: "Surgeons are trained well to solve problems with a knife, so tend to look for a solution using a knife. This may not always be the best solution for you." I know a few people who were put in a worse spot after surgery. Some acquired an infection. The healing required rest that made muscles even weaker. Retraining the muscles is a long, laborous process. It is worth the effort. I still have some problems but there is progress and after surgery I´d still have to go through that process.
