Get Harder Than You Think at iTunes: j.mp/N0EeoO The new video from PUBLIC ENEMY. This is the first single from their 20th Anniversary album HOW YOU SELL SOUL TO A SOULLESS PEOPLE WHO SOLD THEIR SOUL??? Album in stores August 7th!
I remember back to 1988, thinking to myself, "I wonder if I'll be listening to Public Enemy when I'm 50?". Well, here I am and the answer is "HELL YES"!!!
I mean if people in both Hip Hop and Punk Rock, including Punk Rock icon Henry Rollins talks about how brilliant lyricist Chuck D is that in itself should say something
@108542045562961941345 Public enemy were in no way supporters of the police! In "fear of a black planet" they often slagged of on them, it's jsut they recognized that the police were necessary and that they weren't all monsters. Public enemy, at their core, are just anti-establishment .
I'm 15 and I've recently found Public Enemy and this song. This is one of the best songs I have ever heard and can't get my head around how this is not on everyone's playlist. I wish I could experience this in the days it launched; these early 2000s songs are ELITE. Big up to them and I respect anyone who loves this song!!
@louisgkm, you have good ears !! May I direct you to 2 other items on youtube? Check out Shirley Bassey doing Jezahel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RnXBigwi6jI.html its the sample used in this. and the original of that song is Jesahel by Delerium ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZLy0wKe0Jv8.html. Just goes to show the great ears and heart in PE ! Take good care my internet friend.
@@inthecityish You've got better ears! Thank you internet friend. Shirley Bassey's voice is amazing and I loved Jesahel's original adding to the playlist! I'll repay you with knowledge back someday. Otherwise, take care.
For anyone who doesn't know what this song means... Chuck D is saying stand for what you believe in, even though the public might not agree or do the same, and doing this is a lot harder than you think especially when no one thinks the same way.
My wife used to be one of the bookers for Reading Festival in the UK. So many of the bands she met there were A Holes, specifically the Red Hot Chili Peppers who were rude and 'grabby' with their hands. Public Enemy? Absolute gentlemen, including their crew!
I hear this song every night at 6:00p.m.. There is a radio show in Tampa Bay called "A Cat named Mo' " on 102.5 The Bone that uses this as his opening. Great dude. Great show. Chuck is a legend.
As a middle aged white guy who grew up in the 80s and 90s in Oakland, this is just the best stuff ever. Real talent and music about things that matter. Never gets old......ever. Chuck D is a true prophet.
@@mirkorusse6953 So its 2 years later and the maniacs who said I gotta take the shot I fucked with them. Just agree with them and say you took it that its very good for you and boosters are next. Now they are starting to get weird health things.. But hey im not right or left but the so called left had to make a vaccine political. They are insane and just agree play stupid with them, they are now regretting it. I don't understand Why conservatives just use that to win a argument by some simple trolling. Why tell these ppl screaming at you to take poison that will hurt you and you try to change their minds which they wont, Just Jiu jitsu them about how its good and Im not a political guy, dont care for either side. This is how you just deal with the left side morons with simple trolling . Conservatives do mean well mostly and are way to nice. Now they regret taking it with complications showing up. Jiu jitsu tactics. They wanna poison you because their feeble minds believe the TV, then tell them how good it is. You kinda win at the end and i remember they tried to get family members who didn't want it to lose their jobs. So fuck em for being stupid and selfish. Never got this virus but ppl who took 5 shots get it several times in a year or 2. So it don't even work.
"These simple lines be good for your health To keep them crime rhymes on the shelf" wish there was more of this way of thinking in hip-hop, or at least more that got mainstream airplay; messages with mass mobilization, organizing, targeted revolution to end all that needless suffering... instead what is popular - for reasons unknown particularly among caucasian male suburban teenagers - instead the message(s) that seem to resonate are b--ches, $$, chemical induced self-destruction aggressively marketed to the young vulnerable masses by the unethical heartless machinery of capitalism
"you dont stand for something you fall for anything" has low key been my reminder to keep my morals as morals and not hobbies for 20 years. And every track I can have my kids listen to. Thats quite a legacy you've built there PE. Came for the beats, stayed for the wisdom.
Once reaf this was the Paralympics theme song. Perhaps the first Olympic song to include the word, "fuck". How cool is that for so many good reasons. Everyone thanks Chuck 'n y'all for your heart and your brilliance!
This song will forever remind me of my dad and how he used to play this to motivate me. I wouldn’t be where I am without him and I hope to repay him somehow
Live your life to the best of your ability, try to be happy and I'm sure he'll be proud. I have 9 children and the older ones say they want to make me proud by becoming doctors and rocket scientists... I don't care what job they have, as long as they're happy then I'll be proud. Idk, I just want my children to be happy. Like they don't need to enter adulthood and then keep trying to impress me. I don't gaf if they work in a supermarket when they're 32, as long as they're happy that's enough for me. There's more to life than just work.
Been a west coast hip hop head since I’ve started listening to Rap music. Not sure what show or movie I was watching recently but this song was on it and I had to Shazam it. It’s easily one of my fav rap songs of all time now.
Song never ages. I found it late. 2007. Los Angeles. Woman left me. Met the woman I married; we have three kids now; in the backdrop, this song lit up that city for me, right when my life re-began. LOVE it.
You got these young chuckleheads nowadays talking about how "Eminem is the greatest lyricist". "Machine Gun Kelly is the greatest lyricist". And I'm a 50 years old white guy saying "Undoubtedly you young whippersnappers have never heard of people like Chuck D....KRS-1...Eric B. and Rakim. I mentioned Sugar Hill Gang one day and got looks as if I was reciting some form of binary code...
I'm 50 years old from BK. The young folks dont dig into the history fam. That's why we have to be relentless when it comes to bumping the shit that we grew up on.
The fact that this was chosen as the Paralympics anthem (apart from it being the best work PE has done for years) speaks volumes. Well done to all involved.
So THAT’S why they’ve used it for The Last Leg opening! Just found the UK version vs this one with the scenes from Roosevelt, Long Island / Meadowbrook Parkway / how did they even CAPTURE this in a UHall without someone shutting them down? film.
this is honestly one of the greatest beats of all time. its so inspirational and empowering, it makes me want to do something that no ones ever done before
Chuck d is a fucking genius I'm 51 been a fan since my teens, but I'll just leave this here...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8WUZf6fRkrc.html ❤
After all these years, I still believe that PE are the best to ever do it. I may be an older hip hop head, but I can say that I was brought up with the greatest hip hop generation to shape my consciousness to.
I heard this in the movie "❤End of Watch❤" & instantly remembered it was Public Enemy (❤Chuck D) with that swagged-out voice of a king/ prophet🤴🏿! Yeah I said it, and I'm still saved, sanctied, & filled with the Holy Ghost; God's gifts are without repentance !!!
+Alex G237 The sad thing is I don't even think they do, I mean I think they don't even care how shit they are, people are still buying their music, so they feel they can continue to be shit, which is the worst thing about it
Chuck-D is the man. Best rapper on this planet. I've been listening to these guys since forever. They are the prime reason I started to listen to rap in the first place. Not only the beats are powerfull - the messages they hammer are equally powerfull. I hope they will stick around for a while.
Me to, 56yr old white working class guy and still listen to this stuff. PE and NWE stil the best for me,No vaseline will never get beat. growing up as a teenager in the 80`s was the best.best music full stop. But i know appreciate Sinatra and george michael!
Been listening to Public Enemy since I was 10; never understood how positive the lyrics were until I was a man and glad the influence of those lyrics influenced how I grew up. The music may not have been targeted to my demographic; but, it had an impact on my views on race and racial equality.
The skill in this mix is excellent. The hook is in the horn section from Shirley Bassey who took it from an Italian band. It's all out there on the web. Peace love and understanding to everyone. Old school is a good school 😎😎👍
The most biting, on point lyrics I've ever heard. And this line, as a 45 yo man gives me goosebumps it's so inspiring. "I'm like that doll, Chucky baby / Keep coming back to live, love life like I'm crazy / Keep it movin', risin' to the top / Doug Fresh, clean livin', you don't stop"
GM. Would you happen to have the lyrics. 60 yrl old here, I never heard this one. Long story. But been listening to PE since inception. Like always PE Brings the noise! Love this one too. Thanks
I saw PE live first time in 1988. I was never was a real fan so I never understood them. However I could understand that Chuck D. had "voice", and he spoke with such authority. In the years after I'm so surprised that it seems as if they are forgotten. I don't understand why. If they have an important message, why are they not talked about......
This song has become quite iconic with sports. The Big East Basketball tournament used this music, Sunday Night baseball, and most recent the NBC promo for Sunday Night football. Such good tunes
''You don't stand for something, you fall for anything'' Happy Birthday Malcolm X. What a group, what a track, they were only PE by name, in reality they were anything but. Enemy of the State is what they were. Chuck D= Strong!!!
Word. My mum just got used to me listening to Run-DMC & the beastie boys, but Public Enemy scared her to death, which i never understood because she liked Chuck-Ds lyrics when she read them. God bless and keep you. ✌❤ from Canada
The world needs these guys again. We need to be reminded that we are human. Not some perfect magazine photoshopped robot. These days are gonna end with a whimper because there's nobody left with the strength to tell TRUTH!!!
