Those old Clinchfield trains used to rocket past my house when I was a kid. I grew up in Clintwood, Va, and the coal industry was booming back then. These trains would run 2 or 3 times a day, and twice at night.
You almost had a runaway because you may have thought you had dynamic braking but didn't. If that power bar is green your under power. needs to be orange. It sometimes difficult to get it engage. Best I've done is put it in brake mode moving slightly, throttle idle direction through neutral and back. Wait for a dash to appear in the throttle notch box. Then while moving apply full throttle which energizes the dynamic braking. I've gone down that hill with a full load on dynamic only. Adjusting the amount of braking with the throttle. Good luck. P.S. I used dynamic when backing those fully loaded hoppers onto the siding also. Especially when coupling the two sections.
@@BluGames I'm sure you have more experience with these things than I but we all still get caught up on little things. like remembering the 'setup' time for dynamic braking. It isn't instantaneous. BTW, I'm envious of your flying sim setups. You and I are alike except in order...I go for driving (racing) sims first (but the must be realistic and accurate like the old 'Sports Car GT... still the best ever n my opinion, but cant run on newer machines. It has the old Neurenburg (sp?) Ring track in Germany. One I actually raced on. Actually, I've raced most top U.S. tracks so I can easily spot cheap sims. Second for me is flying followed by the rail sims. Good luck on your goal of a career in the Air.
Iirc, you have to bring the throttle to idle, AND release the independent, THEN switch traction to breaking - you'll notice in the hud that the throttle ondicator turns into "-", and the dynamic brake indicator turns from "-" to "0%". If you have the independent applied while switching traction from parallell to braking, it won't work, and throttle will stay in normal mode.
Nice job on this. I noticed you got stuck with the diesel trip that occurs after application of emergency brake. Finally figured out how to restart like you did. I don’t know if the engine trip on emergency brake application is just limited to this train, I have not noticed this before on other trains and limes. Also I am glad you brought up the role of the assistant, because in real life the air hoses don’t automatically uncouple as the game leads you to believe.

Heyyyy never too old to get started!! Get you a good pc and you wont regret it. I think you enjoy what the simulator world has to offer.. flight sims, train sims, trucking sims, and more
I bought this game today because of your epic videos! (and also my iq wasn't high enough for Train Sim 2021) Altough my pc can only run it at pretty low settings Im enjoying it a lot so thank you for your videos and reviews!
I just got this game free on Epic Games, and I love it already, though I seem to be having a little bit of trouble getting to just run my train rather than do tasks. I'd rather just ride. Any advice? Also, I just subbed. Your cool!
You can always go to time table and give up control so u can just ride-along if thats what u mean. Thanks for the sub welcome to the fam enjoy the ride my new friend
you can create your own scenarios as well, utilizing any train you've unlocked/bought along with any route you'd like, and if you pick the longest scenario options, you can basically just free run any train down the full length of any track you'd like. start with "creators club" on the home menu, then "scenario planner" and pick everything you'd like from there! I like to go with long consists, and you can create/select/save different liveries as well. I'm from Baltimore, so I like liveries from east coast railways. hope this helps. happy railroading!
