Like yeah genocide solves a bunch of problems but the whole point of both AoT and Endgame is that we're still human, it will return to what it's always been because it's in our nature. You can think it's admirable that Eren wants to defend his friends but jesus christ you can't seriously be arguing for genocide can you? Truthfully, in Eren Jaeger's case, my thoughts are as follows: His choice is understandable. It's not one I can morally support by any means, but I can see the factors that led him to it. Although, AOT is apparently set in a universe where no alternate timelines are possible as well, so he literally *couldn't* make a different choice. Even if he'd been able to, though, there are reasons the choice he made is understandable. I can't support it morally, but I understand why it happened. I can't hate him,, and I can't 100% convince myself that it was the wrong choice. I think Marley was well on the way to destroying the world on their own, so allowing the oppression to be forced on Paradis doesn't seem like a good call either. What other choices were there? I believe he was actually begging Hange to provide one in their chat in his cell on Paradis Island. Anyway, thank you for the video! It was a good one. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

People tends to forget how young eren is in the final episode and how desperate he was to create a world where his friends can live long. He has less time remaining bcs of the curse of ymir. Going for a peace treaty is hard and slow bcs the hate towards paradis is already strongly established, and they are basically different in spesies (human and titan-changing human) so the fear and hate will never completely disappear. Even if they decide to stay within the walls, there is no guarantee, other nations wont attack them at all. We know the outside worlds have been in war with each other. Marley will definitely attack them in the near future. They were desperate for the founding titan so that they can hugely strengthen their military power bcs other nations has developed anti-titan weapons. Paradis, on the other hand, lack in both military and technologies advancement. The war will eventually happen and the rumbling's purpose is to hugely prolong the time they have before the war, prolong the time for anyone before they can start a war. Rumbling is eren's immediate action for the immediate conclusion he desire. A very immature and inhuman action from an immature and traumatised teenager who have a very huge role and power on his shoulder.

There are two types of people: those who act emotionally and those who act logically. I love Eren, but he was acting emotional. Do not deny or mitigate his mistake that he is just a human being. If he had acted rationally and logically, he would have thought of exterminating the minority while they were using the power of the Titans. Someone might say: What is their fault? They were forced into power. If we look realistically, their lifespan is short, and their extinction means peace for humans from the horrors of the giants. In other words, a plan to euthanize the Titan's powers. Zeke's plan is the logical solution. Eren is hard to defend, he tried to do the same as Lelouch, but there are a Problem with this. He wanted to make the most feared/hated people of the world into heros, but this cant be changed that easy, because everyone were raised in hate/fear of them and the one responsible for all that destruction and death(Eren) is one of them, so it just looks like they cleaned up a mess they made. Even if you caught up to Berserk now, there's no justifying Griffith. He CHOSE the path he's on now. The same is applied to Doflamingo as much as I love how complicated his character is (as he's my favorite one piece villain)

The reason Eren is indefensible is found in the AoT Highschool spinoff manga chapter that Isayama wrote. All the characters are played out as they would be in such a scenario, i.e. Reiner's on the football team, Jean's the delinquent womanizer, Historia's a cheerleader, Mikasa's the goth girl, and Armin's a fuckin nerd. So what about Eren? You guessed it, he's the kid with school shooter vibes. There's a scene where he has a dream that the school is getting attacked by zombies and he gets all fired up to protect everyone, then he wakes up and is super disappointed that the dream wasn't real. In the next scene, he's walking around thinking about how boring the real world is compared to his dream, and then he has a realization that if there's no danger, then if he just *creates* the danger then the world will suddenly be interesting. Combine this with a blog post Isayama wrote a while ago about his fascination with a manga called Himeanole and you will start to understand Eren's character. Himeanole is about a serial killer who realizes he's fucked up and thanks the police for catching him when they find him crying in his sleep in the middle of a park. There is also a real life person in Japan who killed two people when he was 14 in order to fulfill his sexual fantasy and wrote in his memoir that, years later, reading the manga Himeanole caused him to break down crying at the ending when he realized he too was completely fucked up. In his blog post, Isayama explains that the thing Himeanole impressed upon him and changed his mind about was the nature of evil. Before he would see murderers on tv and be like "what a piece of shit", but now he sees them and goes "thank god I'm so lucky that I wasn't born with such a mind." That is why AoT talks about freedom and slavery so much. Eren is a litmus test for whether or not you can feel empathy for an unfixable monster who was cursed from birth. Yes, "being born into this world" makes everyone "special", but it's also a roll of the dice. The whole "he was just protecting his people!" is a front that the show tries to get you to believe because that's what HE is trying to convince HIMSELF to believe. As he admits to Ramzi and then to Armin at the very end, he has no idea why he's doing it, just that he feels like he has to. Something is wrong with his brain and he is not a normal person and he has very abnormal desires. The only question left is whether we can have pity on someone like that, even while we deliver him the justice he deserves. It's not a theory of justice, i.e. how we should treat criminals, but it is a philosophy of empathy, i.e. we should thank god we didn't end up in their situation. If you believe that some people are born uncurably evil, then you shouldn't feel proud of your own morality since the only reason you have it is because you were born with a normal brain and inherited your morals from your parents (plus a bit of whatever your natural personality contributes to the mix). So while Eren IS indefensible objectively, Isayama urges us to not let his actions affect the way we view his humanity. Even though his viewpoint is very deterministic, I think there is actually a thread of free will inherent in that idea. Perhaps the reason we should be empathetic towards criminals is not merely because they were born that way and it isn't their fault, but perhaps because if we choose to look at it that way and offer them compassion (EVEN while also delivering them justice), that maybe this act of kindness might be enough to change some of them for the better. This conversation shouldn't be about whether or not Eren is defendable. He's not, just like Hitler. The point is that Eren *did not* actually have this grand strategy of saving his people. He himself didn't believe that. He is just a school shooter, and the only question is how you feel about him as a human being, not whether his actions were just. They were not.

The most important point that everybody seems to forget about Eren's choice is that it ended the curse of Ymir. Your analogy to the US is the same plan that Armin wanted: only destroy the allied armies in Marley and have a peaceful few decades before the world recovers and Paradis becomes stronger military-wise and maybe even make some allies. But Eren didn't approve of this plan because it meant that children will still be eating their parents and live limited 13-year-long lives. This is what Eren wanted to end, it's why he chose this radical path even though it got some of his friends and people killed (Sasha and Hange), although he claimed at first that he was doing it for them..

Eren speech to Ramzi as we see the rumbling: To save the island. To save eldia. But there is more to this. The reality of the world outside the walls was different from the world I dreamed of. It was different from the world I saw in Armins book. When I learned humanity was alive outside the walls. I was disappointed. I wanted this. I wanted to wipe everything away. Im sorry. Im sorry. Im so sorry. Besides there were better plans to ensure the safety of eldia. Heck he could just destroy the military of the outside world and protect the island with titans. With the help of titans he could have developed eldia so they would be equal in strength. Different countrys didnt even want to fight eldia as we saw. They could have made alliances, because also marley was hated by the world. Zeke also had a better plan. This plan ensured that eldians would live peaceful till they died out. And no. He had ideas how to ensure that marley would not attack. Eren didnt even try to find a peaceful way as we could see. He wanted to take revenge. He had the ultimate power and then people come and say that he was with his back to the wall. Some people say that he saw no better future, but his ability doesnt work like paul atreides or doctor who as many people believe. He only sees one timeline. So the rumbling has not to be the best outcome. It is just that he cant make a different future because he wants to do the rumbling as we can know because of the quote at the beginning or other quotes in the show. In the end he cant stop the rumbling because he wished for it. So yeah you can understand eren, but he is still a bad human

There were other ways to end the conflict, but Eren was paranoid about the risks. 1) Crush the allied fleet with the rumbling, then return to the island, build one big wall and then wipe out the power of the titans from the face of the earth. In this way, you will eliminate the main reason for hatred of the Eldians, the motivation to attack Paradise, and at the same time deprive Marley of their main weapon, which other countries will immediately take advantage of, starting to recapture their territories. And while they are at war, with the help of Azumabito they can establish trade relations with the world. 2) Zeke's plan. Yes, this is the extinction of the Eldians. But they will all be able to live out their lives in peace and safety. I am sure that most people would agree not to have children in order to end the war. 3) Destroy the fleet, return to the island and pass on the founder using Historia’s children. She agreed to become a titan. 4) Using the power of the founder, block the powers of Marley's shifter titans. 5) Brainwash Tiber so that he convinces the world of the pointlessness of attacking Paradise. 6) Absorb all shifters, gaining all their abilities. Subdue all the Eldians on the continent and force them to attack their masters. However, his 80% plan makes no sense at all and is a shitty retcon. He wanted the world to see Paradiz as heroes who stopped him? Firstly, only about 100 people saw the battle on the Founder. Others were nearly trampled and would never forgive Paradiz after that. Secondly, Tybers also pretended to be the heroes who stopped Eldian Empire, that didn't stop the hate. Thirdly, his friends survived only thanks to plot armour and deus ex machina and are wanted dead on their homeland, they can't live happy lives there.

I think one key point is that Eren said himself that he was an idiot. What he was implying was that he wasn't smart enough to figure out a way to solve this problem by shedding minimal blood, and I get that. I'm still trying to figure out to this day what could have been the best way to solve the problem without the Rumbling, and without living in that world and understanding every jot and tittle of the politics and history of that world --- I am doomed to a life of "not knowing." People seem to think that Eren was a genius, even when he himself said he was certainly not. Let's not make him out to be a god here. However, if we step back from the minutiae and examine the big picture of humanity overall, we begin to see that there are truly kind and respectable human beings scattered throughout all the nations of that world: the Brauses, the Ramzis and Halils, the Armins and Hanges, the Pyxis's, the Azumabitos, etc. We see mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters who just want their families together. Most of all, we see innocent babies who have never been trained in the evil ways of the world. The genius of Isayama really shows in this moral dilemma: if you stand with Eren, you stand with genocide but you are empathetic towards a pathetic character and his loved ones; if you stand with the Resistance, you stand with humanity but you disregard the intense onus Eren is forced to carry and you condemn humanity to a perpetual cycle of Titans and victims. Of course, in both the world of AoT and our own world, war and violence will always remain with humanity because of human hate, because of nature. Peace could reign a thousand years, but war could reign another 10,000 after that. This is why if I were in Eren's shoes, I would try my absolute f*cking best to try to save as many lives as possible for the moment - not destroy them to save just a few. As I have said before in other forums, the game is rigged - rigged by Isayama himself. In many hypothetical moral dilemmas, the author of the dilemma rigs it to where you lose in either situation. In real life, it is certainly possible to solve dilemmas. If the world of AoT were to be our world, I would hope to God that someone would be intelligent and honorable enough to find a solution other than genocide!

Between Eren and Thorfinn, I agree with Nick. I don't have that much of mentality to become a pacifist, even Thorfinn start it really rough but he has a very good lesson from his dad and the other dad despite all the sikes he has been through. If I was to put on their shoes I most likely walking a similar path as Eren ( depends on how extreme the situation ) and if somehow I live long enough I might be tired and become Thorfinn 😂

Eren's plan would've been actually good if he pulled an Ozymandias instead of Thanos. He thought eradicating a good bunch of lives would end the problem but he had completely forgotten about the part where the problem will last as long as humanity lasts. Instead he could've used his powers like nukes are being used nowadays- A THREAT. Eren could've forced peace efforts by threatening that he'll start RUMBLINGS and advise everyone to come to the negotiations table, there would definitely be some who'd be against it and he'll need to eradicate 1 or 2 country to show his might(Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombing) and the rest of the world would frighteningly stop war and over time create a good relationship which will be sustained by cultural exchange & education

Nick defending Eren is crazy. I know that he trying to put himself in Eren's shoes but he also need to put himself in the innocent civilians too. The emotional complexity of his character makes him one of the greatest written characters. People saying Thorfinn, should know King Fritz chose the way of pacifism and we know what happened. There was no solution for this situation. Armin, Hange didn't had any solution, they relied on Zeke's first plan anyway.
