Hardest Day living in A van (I almost didn’t post this) 

Update: Brandys family reached out to me and informed me, they were made aware, and had a proper service in honor of her. Her dog was also rescued by family and is safe!

Mateo , I am a homeless disabled female myself. It means so much just to be noticed and treated like a “normal “ person. People don’t come up to talk to homeless. You have a huge heart and are full of kindness. You were an earth angel for her….i agree we all need to show kindness and care to one another. Thank you for sharing the story. My love to you and anyone hurting from the loss. ❤😢

You thought you were there for one last snow, but you were really there to show her one last act of kindness on this earth. You cooked her last meal. So thoughtful of you. This is an example of why it is so important to value others and do what you can to support because you never know how much your actions mean to them. Thank you for showing the world how we should be toward one another.

Of all the videos I've seen over the past decade with people living in cars and the whole van life thing...I've never seen a single one of them cook a meal for a complete stranger. Love thy neighbor - God bless you sir!

Nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said. It’s crazy that you made a last minute decision to change your travel plans. That the campsite you wanted was snowed in. And that you ended up where you did at the time you did. It’s almost like you were meant to be there. Most people would say it was for her. But it may have been for you. Why, only you and time can answer that. Take care Brother.

This is so sad...her cars towed, her dog goes to the shelter. But you know what's beautiful? You made her coffee and a breakfast sandwich on the last day of her life. That was kind. And a kindness she received made her day brighter and she got to recieve some love. It makes a difference. She did not die alone and forgotten.

You don't realize how many homeless people are out there until you start dwelling in a vehicle. Good for you for actually caring though, I did a simliar thing for a lady I met while out on the road and we still talk to this day. The world can be a cold place some times, but spreading love will always keep us warm.

Without even knowing her situation, your internal compass told you to reach out to her. Your instincts told you someone was in that vehicle and you checked on her and shared a meal with her without any profit motive, gain, or intentions. Just one human connecting with another. She was so grateful for your kindness in sharing a meal with her. You never could have known what she was going through, but your selflessness told you exactly what she needed. This breaks my heart to see, but to know you met her in her final days will leave an imprint on you forever. We never know what going on inside of those we encounter. You showed exactly how to treat people without even knowing. It just happened to be caught on video and I'm very sorry you had to experience this moment. I don’t know why these come up on my stream but I watched a couple. I feel depressed the last few days. I have a house have a little money I’m just disabled and a little lonely. I have a brother and my son that lives with me, my husband died in 2019 right before Covid. I guess we can all feel lonely even when we have people around us. I lived in my car with my kids and my dog. We went from having nothing to having a beautiful 3 bedroom home but I know exactly how fast everything could be gone. I never take it for granted. If you can’t be anything else, be kind.

You fed her, you re hydrated her but most importantly you talked to her and treated her with kindness and respect . I choose to think she is with Jesus now, at rest and with joy and no longer afraid or cold or hungry or in pain. God put you there when she needed you. You are a good and kind man, i wish the world was filled with more like you sir. When you were talking with her and giving her assistance, you were doing God’s work young sir and May God protect and bless you all the days of your life.

Mateo, sometimes we come in contact with a person or people who are here for us in our moment of need. You were that person who came to Brandy in her moment in need. You noticed Brandy and saw Brandy, you treated her with the utmost respect and made Brandy a loving meal because you probably wanted her to feel better, seeing that she was living in a car. A meal you denied yourself, but would probably do many times over to help her. You were raised right and Brandy was very fortunate to have you in her last few days, someone to treat her with respect and love. Don't feel bad, you're a good man. I’ve lived in my car. Homeless people please take care of yourselves. Ask for help, food, money when you think it’s appropriate. Be as invisible as possible, and pickup after yourself. Help others and be a good citizen. You’ll find your way eventually. Always be aware of your surroundings. This guy has a lot of charm and that helps him. Use whatever gifts you have.

The 'Bo' from 'Ivy and bo and me' is the dog that I inherited from a full-time nomad that I met in Quartzsite who died less than 2 months later. So watching this was very triggering. We bond to others so quickly on the road. It makes losses much harder. My heart goes out to you, Mateo. Gosh Mateo! It is really amazing to see how far you have come in just a year! I think about you often because you inspired me with your determination to follow your own path to happiness. I mention you to my friends a lot because you serve as a great example of what it looks like to live authentically to yourself. I can imagine that this journey is far from easy, from adapting to living in your van 24/7 to the vulnerability that it takes for you to bring total strangers along as you navigate this new way of life. So many people would have just not noticed Brandy in her car, or would have looked the other way, but you stepped right up to the plate and offered friendship, cameraderie, compassion and practical help. That makes you one in a million in my eyes, and I think you've made the right decision to post this to encourage others to break the ice when they see someone struggling in this way. (There but for the grace of God, go all of us). I understand how distressing this was for you, but maybe in time to come you will be comforted by knowing that you enriched Brandy's last few days with your kindness.
