My first trip to the lakes and on my way to Boot in the Eskdale valley. Once I got beyond Windemere and looked at the map, I figured I was nearly there, but you soon learn that time and distance have a different meaning in the lake district due to the meandering nature of what passes for roads up there!
Hardnott as everyone says is very narrow, very windy and very steep in places and is a bit like bungee jumping - great when it stops!
But in good weather and in a well maintained car with some decent grunt, it's a laugh. Give it a go!
