I’ve been an avid fan of Hardy Tackle for more than forty years. The tradition of hand made English Tackle still lives within the brand. Hardy has fought hard through tough times and still manages to survive. Most of what I own is Alnwick made, but I do own some modern Hardy gear as well (Sintrix and Angel TE...etc). All my Tackle will be passed along to my Sons so that they can enjoy them for another 50 or more years. I have other gear but Hardy is still far and away my favorite.

I'm looking forward to Hardy offering classics for the stream trout fisher to include the Hardy's Crown Royal hollow-built 4'10" dry fly "midget rod", split cane Phantom #4, 6'10" rod in medium action for brush laden spring-fed limestone creeks in the drift-less region of the mid-western USA, for example. Rods of 6'0" are ideal for these streams and offer the delicate presentations for dry fly fishing our crystal clear trout streams with much foliage and very wary rainbows, browns, and brook trout. Few rods can present as well as a short, light-action split cane rod. They work great for nymph-fishing and presenting terrestrials as well. The larger streams in NE Iowa, SE Minnesota, and SW Wisconsin are best fished with shorter fly rods as well, i.e. 6 to 7-1/2 foot. Winds and foliage often require chest casts, back-hand casts, kneeling in the water to present the fly, rods that minimize flash and false casting. Many fine fly fishers have been humbled by our waters in NE Iowa where I live because they tried to use fly rods too long, failing to kneel, to approach fish with effective camouflage, stealth, proper tackle, and technique. We need affordable split cane rods and reels that really protect our 6X, 7X, and 8X tippets. I wish you much success as you expand your market. Ron Uhlenhopp, NE Iowa, USA.

I wonder if Hardy has forgotten why the spools in the old reels have only one side perforated with holes ? It was to protect the mechanism from water getting in from the wet line, and to protect the line from oil and grease from the mechanism. To separate. Did you know that ?

My first Hardy rod was a 9.6 7# Viscount . Since then , I have owned a Sirrus 15ft , a Swift 16ft , a Uniqua 15ft and 9ft 10# I used for Pike fly fishing , a 10ft 7# Demon and my current favourite 10ft 7# Demon Sintrix . As well as a few reels . Hardy make exceptionally brilliant fishing kit . Is it possible to visit the factory , without pre booking ? As I've always wanted to see where these legends are made .

Excellent informative videos. I do have one question. Why are agate line guides still installed? Tradition? I was always under the impression the agates cracked, and that created problems. Was a silicon carbide ring ever considered a possibility to replace the agate? Again, thanks for the education.

You must have been very unfortunate regards the reels . Grey's clothing I'm not keen on either , although the Hardy EWS kit was great . I've still got my soft shell and wind proof fleeces almost 9 years and still good . I also had the EWS mark 1 wading jacket , that served me well through Scottish winters on the Tay .
