Harlem Globe Trotters visited Papua New Guinea in 1975... I watched them play against our national team. They made our team look like kids just trying to learn how to play basketball ball. They were just unbelievable.
I don't care how long they've been performing, or whst group is perfirming, these guys are sn absolute treasure. From Goose Tatum, Meadowlark Lemon to the present, and the gags NEVER get old!
Wilt Chamberlain is FAR from the only Globetrotter alumnus. Connie Hawkins, Bob Gibson, Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton, the FIRST African American to sign with the NBA came from the Trotters, Bill Cosby played briefly with them as did Darryl Dawkins and Magic Johnson
Geese Ausbie came into the clinic where I worked (while the Globetrotters were on tour and in Seattle). What a sweet man! So gracious, funny and a gentleman. We had lots of Seattle "big shots" come in over the years I worked there but he did not put on airs or make demands. Just a wonderful person.
@@illmatticx well it was def back when people actually thought for themselves and didn't believe everything that ignorant idiots told them on internet.
These gentlemen spread the word and love and peace all over the world. I absolutely adore these guys, really went out of their way to make people very happy. Greetings and much love from Dublin Ireland...
I was very fortunate as a child to go to one of their games when Meadowlark Lemon was the man, Curly was the dribbler. Meadowlark made a couple of half court shots backwards over his shoulder facing the opposite basket without ever looking once, but he did it like it was a foul shot, no big deal, which made it even greater. Man what a showman.
These guys would demolish NBA caliber defenses with handle like that; I always wondered why only Wilt was the only well known Globetrotter alumnus. Sure it’s rehearsed but you can’t deny that level of dribbling and it would stand legally in a pro game.
Rehearsed and practiced are the same type of preparation. Globetrotters practiced and rehearsed the same as any NBA team only they have the comedy skits added in. The NBA, of course, goes for daytime soap opera level high drama.
I was a little kid sitting courtside and Geese took my moms purse and dumped it out all over the floor. She came out and danced with him just like in this video. Such a great memory of two legends.
OMG so funny. I agree with the other response, they probably couldnt do that nowadays -that and demanding a kiss by repeatedly advancing on a stranger before yelling, "Give me a kiss or I'll kick your shoes off!" --oh, and taking sips of people's Covid/Herpes drinks... Still, if Geese was playing now I bet he'd still get away with things others wouldn't dare- and everyone would love him for it - some people just have that personality.

I can proudly say I have seen The HGTs 3 times in England in Brighton I saw Geese Ausbie ,Curly Johnson and Bob Babyface Page Brilliant guys .Thanks for the memories love you all
Some of the Globetrotters came to my school when I was a kid and I got to meet Spinny Johnson. He signed a bumper sticker that they gave out to us and my Mom still has it in her photo album.
I was lucky enough to see the Globetrotters at their last appearance at the Olympia in Detroit. The names and faces change, but the Globetrotters are always fun to see.
First time us kids ever saw trick dribblin' and all the other stuff they did. I don't remember 'em using undersized basketballs, but it sure looks like they are in parts of this clip.
@@harrymills2770 Did you get the chance to see Marques Haynes and Bobby Joe hunter? They put on a dribbling clinic. Curly too. He could spin the ball on his finger for the longest time- lead the team on the floor doing it.
Meadowlark may have been just about the greatest basketball player ever. He could have been a complete stud in the NBA, choose the life of traveling to every country in the world and putting smiles on faces everywhere he went.
wtf was he doing straight disrespectful acting like a fool grabbing and throwing a babies shoes also telling a girl kiss me or I’ll throw your shoes he weird af don’t touch a girl if she doesn’t give permission
I was working with those great guys in 1965 dec. till 1966 April with SLUK slovak nationala ballet ,I remember them absolutelly clearly Medowlark lemon Hubert Ausbie Fredy Neel curly ,Bill Barnes . it was an unforgettable time . great thanks dear boys to have an honour to meet you .
Or Showboat Hall. Growing up in the 60's and early 70's, my favorite guys were Meadowlark (of course), Showboat Hall, Haynes, Curly Neal, and one other I forgot. Didn't Geese Ausbie take over Meadowlark's place as the "Crown Prince Of Basketball"? I remember Showboat sitting down on his butt midcourt and making goals from there. And who could ever forget Meadowlark's long distance hooks? Some of my childhood's greatest memories.
If u search it up, back before African Americans were allowed in the NBA and the best of them were on the globetrotters, the globetrotters actually beat the Lakers in an official game
