"Meadowlark" Lemon-36 and "Curly" Neal-22 were the stars of this group.

My all time favorite was Curley Neal.

These guys are great to see live.

Like a well oiled machine. So much coordination and talent.

In the 70s they would be on the Wide World of Sports with Howard Cosell announcing. Kids went nuts waiting a week to see them when they found out it was going to be on. RIP and thank you, Meadowlark.

Never get tired of watching these dudes. CGI couldn't do it better.

I always love to watch the Harlem Globetrotters as a little kid in the 70s. Yes they clowning around, being silly but yet they were excellent and wonderful basketball players. They had their own cartoon episodes on Saturday morning cartoons with granny and a dog who dressed up in a globetrotters uniform. They were super heroes on their cartoons? Harlem Globetrotters appeared on Scooby doo on 2 episodes. Meadowlark Lemon and Curly are the only 2 guys that I know by name, others I have trouble their names.

Ed Sullivan was awesome about finding and bringing us great talent and entertainment! And not only were the original Globetrotters talented with a ball, but stupendous comedians as well! It's sad that we only have out past to look back on as a wonderful simpler time with pleasant people, as we watch society erode today!

It’s kinda infuriating to see Connie Hawkins here knowing he should’ve been dominating in the NBA at that time instead of being stuck with the Globetrotters. But the NBA had Connie blackballed behind some bullsh*t. The league eventually settled, paid him a few dollars and let him in the league by 1969 but nothing can make up for all the years he lost having to clown around for pennies while wearing down his knees. R.I.P. Hawk 🙏🏾

I bought a 📀 DVD on the Harlem Globetrotters, I didn't know that they went back to the 1920s or 1930s. I bought it at the 99 ¢ store. Now they have a girl on their team years ago, I think of them as all men.

Meadow lark Lemon, Curly O'Neal. They even had a cartoon back in the day. There was a debate in the day, if the Harlem Globetrotters, and the Milwaukee bucks played who would win... Well before with the 24 second shot clock , the Globetrotters would have won. They would score 2 pts, then steal the ball and pass it around for 47 minutes.

I remember Meadowlark being #36. Was that him? I guess he was really young at that point so that's why it didn't look like him initially.

Goddamn, those were the days my friend.. I thought they'd never end.. I checked all the comments and oddly enough NO ONE recognised that the cat wearing a Harlem Globetrotter uniform with the #31, IS THE ONE AND ONLY CONNIE HAWKINS!! That's right, the man himself --- "The Hawk"... Played in both the ABA & the NBA.. World Class player basketball player, and from all accounts a very nice man as well.. Wasn't allowed to play in the NBA for many years because of a "fixing basketball games" scandal that he was accused of being involved in some sort of way.. He may have actually spent some time in prison --- but I believe he was innocent in the entire matter because he never admitted any guilt as to being a knowing and willing participant to the crime.. I'm a little foggy on the details of the case at the moment; but I do remember that none other than David Stern was the head of the NBA's legal team during Connie's lawsuit/petition to gain entry into the NBA.. That's right, THE SAME David Stern who eventually became Commissioner of the NBA (succeeding Larry O'Brien) for what seemed like a tenure that lasted 400 goddamned years!! Ain't that just the loveliest thing in the whole wide world? Fortunately, Connie eventually won his suit against the league, but not before he was forced to forfeit some of the best years of his professional career.. Even still, he became an NBA-All Star and remained an extremely dynamic force for any opposing team to deal with.. Basically unguardable.. Check out his book "Foul", which is something of an expose about the whole "match-fixing" thing that nearly ruined his life.. I don't remember how long he stayed with the Globetrotters, but it wasn't very long.. As an adolescent, I saw him a couple of times when he played for the Phoenix Suns against the Detroit Pistons downtown at Cobo Arena in the late 60's/early 70's.. At that point he was ALREADY a little past his prime; but damn, what a player!! He could palm the ball like Wilt Chamberlain and swoop to the hoop like a giant eagle on the fast break.. If he took off from the free throw line, he could dunk the ball EASILY.. No problem whatsoever.. Kids today think Dr. J, MJ, & Dominique Wilkins were the first to sky-walk from 15, 16 feet away.. Naw, not really.. Truly fascinating to watch him play.. He had a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT presence on the court compared to other players of his generation.. A different kind of energy with incredibly graceful, ballet-type moves.. In general, Connie Hawkins was a finesse player; but his height, length, and natural strength (6' 8" with a wingspan like a 7 footer) allowed him to deal quite efficiently with players who tried to play physical and utilise the "bully-ball approach", hoping to deter his effectiveness.. They had very limited success in doing so.. He was a very dominant and extremely unique player.. Incredible to witness.. David Stern? YUK!! Actually, let's make that DOUBLE YUK!!
