BANANAS ARE NOT FROM AFRCA BRO.. . Musa species are native to tropical Indomalaya and Australia, and are likely to have been first domesticated in New Guinea. They are grown in 135 countries, primarily for their fruit, and to a lesser extent to make fiber, banana wine, and banana beer, and are sometimes even grown as ornamental plants.
THE ONLY THING DISTINCTIVELY BBBLK ON THIS SHOW WAS THE DELICIOUS LOOKING FOOD FROM THE 1ST RETAURANT... THE REST OF THE "SOUL FOOD" IS JUST FOOD DERIVED FROM MAINLY SOUTHERN WHTE AND NATIVE AMERICAN FOODS.. . EGYPT MIGHT BE IN AFRC BUT THE EGYPTIANS WERE AND ARE CAUCASIAN ARABS.....
I went on Larry's tour yesterday & it was amazing! He's a very good guy & knowledgeable of Harlem. Plus there were many hidden gems along the way. We also ran into Lydia from Ourtbox Cafe in our travels & she is a very nice lady.
You are one of my fav RU-vidrs and this video shows why. It is not just your love of food, which I enjoy as a fellow foodie, it is the diversity of food and neighborhoods you show case. I don't see any others doing this. Your channel has so much heart this video highlights all I mentioned (heart, food, local, diversity). As a native New Yorker I thank you.
I love the vibe of Harlem. The food, the people, the history.....wish I could see and know more about the people's childhood memories growing up in Harlem with soul food cooked by their moms or grandmums and family gatherings.
Harlem is my second home. I’m definitely hitting every spot. These are hidden gems I never been but that soon will change. Thanks for sharing Harlem with the world. You are one of the very very few that take time to explore, connect with the community and share

So glad you went to Jacob restaurant! I ate there last summer, and I was actually moved to tears by the soulfood… You could actually taste the generations of history in it. ❤️ Now I can't wait to book the walking tour on my next visit! Thank u!
Loved this! One magical night some years ago 2 dear friends who live in Harlem took me out for awesome jazz and a free midnight buffet at a warm friendly club. One cherished memory of NYC!

This video was a little different Jon ❤. Props to Larry for guiding you to some great places. The owners of the food paces are full of compassion and heart. I loved this ❤❤
I’ve been watching all the New York compilations and omg you’re like the best person at influencing because i swear i want to go to every single spot you have mentioned keep the great work and addictive videos that i love watching! Especially the Cheap eats series !
@Here Be Barr: Thank you for making and sharing this video. The food at the first two restaurants looked so delicious! Also, having Mr. Larry there was a nice addition to this video. Please continue to show black and other cultural places.
Ive been to NYC twice, and stayed away from Harlem, due to its reputation. Im deep into the planning section of my next trip, and Im now going to make a deliberate effort to go and see and eat at a couple of these places. That banana pudding looked amazing...
Hi Jon, I was fascinated with this vlog of Harlem. The food looked delicious and the other gentleman was a great source of information as well. I’m addicted to your channel. Thank you for your constant food and attraction exposure in NYC. Peter
Hi Jon! Wanted to say THANK YOU so much for the videos and guides you share! I recently visited New York for the holidays and your videos helped me so much and it was such a hassle free trip! I learnt and knew so much just from your vids that I felt like I knew so much about New York even before going there and some of my friends didn't believe when I said it was my first time in NY lol. Thank you again!
@@newurbanlandlady nope no competition. I don’t own anything. They don’t season their food what so ever. Some of the worst oxtail and fried chicken I ever had. When it first open, I will admit the food was really good. I even put in for catering orders. I also know someone that used to work there. It’s a shame because the food was once solid.
Mannn listen! Every time I go to NYC, I visit Harlem. The food is amazing, and I have never any problems. I have been there day and night, and I’ve never felt unsafe.
Love this video. Harlem is not longer what it was back in the 1970s-1980s. I want to visit there soon. Thank you for the interesting restaurant suggestions (:
Oh man, I wish you saw your video sooner. Tomorrow is my last full day in NYC. I will save them for my next trip back to the city. Thank you for sharing
Oh man, I wish I could donate to help out Ourtbox. She seems so nice and kind, both to Harlem itself and the homeless that come in. I always respect businesses who try to help homeless folks. I really hope that Gofundme makes the goal.
Love the architecture in Harlem. agree about the safety, the only part of it that still feels uneasy is East Harlem, 125th and Lex deserves its reputation sadly. Great neighborhood.

OMG My husband always tells me we've been to NYC too many times, but the city always gives you a reason to come back. I've been to Sylvia's once, I'll visit Jacob's next time I'm in town, and Ginjan! So I'll have to go twice to Harlem! Also I would love to make the tour with Larry. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Hey man, we are heading to NYC in April. Aussies in NYC for the first time! We've been watching your channel as the ultimate New York Guide. Please let us know if you'd be keen to film some content for your channel. " An Aussie Tourist's Perspective"
I grew up in Philly and have visited NYC many times, but I’ve only been to Harlem twice. I felt as big a sense of history on 125th Street as in my birthplace, DC, and/or Boston. I loved your video.
Very cool video.I wish the guy at the first place much success. He truly seemed to love what he was doing & so happy to share foods from his birthplace.
Great video. Thanks to your advice our trips have always included off the beaten track spots and neighbourhoods and boroughs we may never have discovered. You are adding to our list once again.
Just a quick clarification..bananas originate from Southeast Asia back a long time ago..of course through international trade bananas went all over the place and flourished in many climes..Africa being one of them..✌️
9:40 Sorry but banana is not an African fruit. Most experts agree that it was most likely first domesticated by the Papuans in the Pacific and then reached Asia. (At least according to currently available major publications) It was introduced to Africa through maritime trades later.
Correction - I gave outdated information. Based on current information, Bananas are not indigenous to Africa. They are believed to have originated in the region of Southeast Asia and Papua New Guinea.
John an amazing adventure The food looked amazing. Well videoed. How about it John can we double dog dare you to do a show on Vegan food including deserts. Come on John come over to the dark side Bill in Fort Wayne Indiana
I wouldn’t ever think of Nilla Wafers as garnish for banana pudding; it’s an integral ingredient! If the owner is putting each serving together I guess she could offer a vegan Bananas and Pudding which would be completely different than Banana Pudding. Good catch!
Hopefully she does bc it made me go 👀 and I’d been curious to know ever since I watched this video a week ago. Finally researched it and stumbled upon this comment as soon as I came back here haha! I just think it’s hilarious when she goes something about ppls “specific dietary needs” yikes 🤣
What would also be interesting is changing money in New York. Somehow everyone assumes that you have credit cards. In Thailand 99% of the time is cash and you can change money on every corner
Hello I have been subscribed to you for years and watch almost every video. Was just curious did you ever get food poisoning in your life? Was wondering because you eat so many different types of food and I got food poisoning recently so was wondering.
The reason that banana pudding is vegan is that the milk was replaced with a plant based milk. True banana pudding has milk and bits of cake in there. And I don’t think nilla is vegan at all. I’ve always seen milk or milk powder in the ingredient list.
