Harlequins are pretty much the eldar equivalent to grey knights. An elite unit that specializes in fighting chaos, and you have to leave your former self behind to become one.
Cegorach is an interesting character, as he is the ONLY remaining Eldar god. All the rest are either still unborn (Ynnead), shattered to fragments (Khaine), a prisoner of the Chaos Gods (Isha), or were slaughtered the day Slaanesh was born. Imagine what must be going on through his head. He before was the most intelligent Eldar god, but spent his intelligence on mere playful mischief among the gods and their worshippers. Imagine what happened in his mind the day most of the Eldar were devoured, and all his friends shattered, taken, or devoured as well. Imagine that intelligence, one to rival or possibly even EXCEED that of Tzeench, turned from minor mischief towards the protection of what few Eldar remain, the destruction of their enemies, and the ruination of Slaanesh. Think about that, and understand why Cegorach laughs. He laughs because it's funny. He has spent millennia setting up this joke, the ultimate joke, on Slaanesh. His anticipation of the punchline of this, his final, greatest joke, is too much to hold in, and so he laughs because he can't. The time of the punchline is nearly here.
I agree, lol Cegorach might see this as an opportunity, dunno if that would be him main intention, but he is basically the only free/living/intact Elder God , the gods the eldar worshppped were the biggest and the highest in the warp ! And Cegorach was also in this top !

The difference between Harlequins and Dark Eldar is that the Harlies kill you BEFORE putting you in weird sex positions. Dark Eldar kill you BY putting you in weird sex positions! Gotta love the meme lords of 40k.
These guys are my pick for the "good guy" faction of the setting. They're the only ones that actually have a long term plan, have not totally screwed said plan up, and are not total assholes about it. Compare that to the others: Chaos: took 13 tries to complete step 1 of their master plan, plus the gods literally represent everything bad about the setting. The Imperium: a collective 10,000-year-long panic attack primarily focused on delaying the inevitable while also shooting themselves in the foot every other day. The Orks: basically that kind of person who is so baked 24/7 that they give absolutely no fucks about anything. I wouldn't be surprised if they literally do not understand the concept of "the future." The T'au: are going to be rendered extinct faster than Horus's fashion sense the moment another faction decides they're an actual threat. The Dark Eldar: see the above about the Imperium. And finally the Craftworlders, who actually did have a plan but managed to screw it up despite having millennia to prepare as well as the ability to see the future.
@Hidetaka Miyazaki In more ways than one. Many that actually still have self-awareness are about as grounded in reality as an above-average Ork, their general demeanor is much like that of the Imperium, and much like Chaos they seem to be struggling with the first couple steps of their plan.
@Hidetaka Miyazaki I do think they do have a bit of a point, though really all of the leaders are absurdly intelligent, the only qualifying factor here is being above the mindless automatons in some way.
According to the Ghazghkull book, the orks don't have a word for 'future'. they call it the 'now-forever' and the past is called the 'eaten-now'. I suppose it proves the Orks really don't have a concept of time, but seeing how they actually like it in the 40k universe, why would they try and change it?
Honestly it'd be pretty hard to tell. Not only because each solitaire is already a walk meat grinder. But I don't think people will be sane long enough to tell (them being a blank and all) what their looking at is a soulless knife-eared tree-f×ker Or an ancient all powerful warp god that's about to pull the biggest whip and nae nae in history on your unfortunate ass.
@@dermilchmann25 Just because someone plays a certain faction doesn't make them a Metaslave lol. Models are expensive, most people can just go out and buy the best army whenever the next spicy codex drops XD.
I'm a total newb to painting, but I've been creative. I've been making little balloons, whips, handcuffs, spray graffiti, mirrors, tiny Xmas present looking boxes, little flags sticking out from the guns that say "BANG!" like a Wylie Coyote cartoon, and obituaries from the newspaper paper macheted as my harly's flags and vehicle wrap, etc. They also have tied many of the normal eldar troops' legs together, spraypainted obscenities on their armor as a joke, etc. I'm not clear on whether or not the slightly overblown aesthetic disqualifies the models from ever being used in a game, but I don't really care. They're sexy lil' ladies and it's gonna be a good story when people ask "what craftworld logo is that supposed to be, on those guardians there?" and I'm all "Naw, that's a dick." Amazingly, this seems to almost work in the lore.
I remember reading somewhere that some Harlequins have visited human worlds, performing dances to entertain the locals. Because they wear masks, they can pass for tall humans, so the Inquisition allows it. Fucking funny.
Solitaires are an absolute menace. In the Harlequin codex, you can have a variety of troops, and bikes, and snipers and seers; but the Codex makes it very clear that you are only allowed to have ONE Solitaire.

Funfact #1: Harlequins are one of the oldest 40k factions. They are here since 1E Rogue Trader, they were first introduced in 1988 in a big box set. They basically predate a ton of armies. They predate Dark Eldar, Sisters of Battle, Imperial Guard (since they were first introduced in 1989 as the Imperial Army), Tau, Necrons etc. They received army support in 2E too, then 3E saw an experimental Harlequins Codex that could be found on the GW website, and then they received further rules and an army list in a White Dwarf article, such as mimes and Harlequin wraithlords, then 3E was left unfinished (where's my promised 3E Codex: Alienhunters, GW!) and Harlequins were relegated to a CW Eldar subfaction in 4E, which was a bummer for us Harlies, but we also got brand new updated resin Harlie models, so, welp, not that bad I guess, still a win. Harlies were reintroduced in 7E just like the Genestealer Cults, and they ended up as a proper playable army again in 8E. Funfact #2: Venoms were originally Harlequin vehicles. Funfact #3: Rogue Trader Harlequins had a looted Land Raider, they also had looting rules, so you could loot almost any vehicle. You could field Looted Harlequin Predators for example :)

I'd wager the Dark Eldar are having a blast, too. Sure, they've got Slaanesh constantly draining their souls, but the solution to that problem is what Dark Eldar like to do anyways.
Couple of points on Harlequins from when they first appeared. They were the 40k version of warhammer Fantasy "wardancers" and still bear a striking resemblance to Wych cults in the whole "performance of pain" thing. Oldhammer Harlequins wore facemasks that projected images of you or your friends/comrades/loved ones dying... as they murdered you. The Chonky gemmed belts were supposedly suspensor belts that allowed the crazy flippity flops they do so love. Seen on the back of one of the pics are a couple of tubes - these are 'Creidann' grenade launchers that lob hallucinogenic nades all over the shop so you'll be tripping when you get filleted. One last point - the tube-like weapon on the Harlies' arm is "the harlequin's kiss". When punched into your tits, this little beauty reels out monofilament into your body that then rotates, liquifying your innards - bone and all. Soupy.

The Harlequins are a tough faction to put into table top. Their battle style is basically all about insane 30d chess games were they pop in at the last moment and wreck your shit. The only way to probably do them justice is to have your opponent eat a shit load of mushrooms right before playing.
@@jacksonmacpherson6101 I did that in TTS, I can confirm my Shadowseer used that mirror mind roll-off-forever-until-your-opponent-beats-your-roll move and killed his CMD first engagement, probably 6 or 7 in a row on some big bitch space marine I would never have charged if I was sober. This was kill team, if I recall. I've never seen that dude complain so much about anything in the 20 years I've known him. And I've never been so lucky on the dice. Harlies are weird like that. So yes, kids, take drugs if you play harlies. I recommend taking yours the moment you decide on point totals and right before you start building lists. Do that little bit of tedium while straight and then let the laughing god take over.

Thank you for doing the Harlequins. While I at least had some basic knowledge on each other faction in 40k, I didn't know jack about the Harlequins besides them being Eldar clowns and following a "Laughing God".

The many feats of the Harlequins, especially in their theatrical performances, would make Cirque Du Soleil look like absolute chumps. Would Mark Hamill make for a perfect candidate to be the voice of Cegorach himself, I wonder...
