Quite possibly the best value Strat copy ever made! The guys at Thomann got this one spot on with the Harley Benton ST-62MN VW Vintage Series. Great Fender Stratocaster tones and looks for a simply crazy price.
Thomann's 'own brand' Harley Benton is becoming very well known for producing extremely reasonable instruments for extremely reasonable prices. Their electric guitars in particular have been receiving some big praise throughout the internet and press.
This Vintage Series guitar styled on the early Fender Stratocaster design plays like a guitar well above it's price point. The comfortable neck, although having a slightly more chunky feel than vintage reissues I've tried is a pleasure to play, the hardware works, the pickups sound surprisingly good and overall the guitar looks just great.
Thomann's Harley Benton Strat series may well be leaving similar 'starter' guitar producers scratching their heads!

Absolutely Sergio!! I started learning in the early nineties and budget guitars could be so bad back then! I had an early 80s Kay that was pretty awful! these HB's are just great.

Nice stuff fella. Just got a sort of harley benton reject(te90flt), rejected, P90 pickups installed and sold on ebay for a 100 notes..... Its bloody marvellous, bit of a fettle(which I'd expect to do on anything under 500 quid) and it's wearing my fingers out... 😀

My HB 62 Hot Rod plays like a dream. Flawless out of the box, intonation spot on 😊. If I had access to a guitar like this in the 1980's, my level of playing would be completely different. Enjoy the golden age of good affordable guitars....it's happening NOW 😊

Small piece of feedback: have something else in the background when recording other than your computer screen. It adds a lot of glare, and is a bit of a distraction. Like the format of your videos otherwise tho! Thanks for the endorsement of the HB!

my VW ST-62mn VW came more yellow than your wall at 1:37 lol. I also had to rout the bridge channel in the guitar because the block was stuck on the wall, even after that it won't hold tune when I even look at the whammy bar so I just screwed down the bridge all the way and called it a day. Now it plays fine minus no whammy.

Appreciate your vid mate!!!! The first HB”s did not really impress me Reviews are negative and that will take a place in our minds Guitarists are sensitive people and we are proud in this Thomann / HB would have learned from earlier mistakes and did really pay attention to out comments showing the improvement of quality now HB strats are very ok today Fender made more mistakes in the past and i guess it is only the brandname now what makes people glow The mainpart is in “our fingers” 😜😉

I am going to 'unbox' this guitar tomorrow, and I am going to do a review on youtube. The previous 4 HB's all had high frets, bad tuners,bowed necks The trem plates are half as thick as the Squiers, black strings on delivery, egg cutting action.. I actually developped luthier skills because of Harley Benton guitars. Every Harley Benton that came out of the box needed a fret level job, etc... I will give a post when I am ready with the review. I have a surf green one with the roasted neck. What a great guitar. Everything is ok. Nice fretwork, no sharp ends, all is level. Tremolo works good floating. I payd 90 euro’s for it in 100% new condition. In the 90th you payd 500 bucks for crap👍💪

Nice one Brian, yeah they are insanely good for the price, tbh, they're just insanely good! Yeah I just screwed it down and the springs are new enough to hold the tuning well, if the stability goes with time either stick a couple more springs on or just wedge a block of wood in the back to support the bridge. Hi Michael, yeah it's a great guitar for the money for sure, good question and I honestly couldn't tell you how the pickups are wound but here's how Thomann describe them '3 Roswell STA Alnico-5 Vintage ST-Style single coils'. Hope that helps.

Hi bud, I've not played the Ibanez but took a look and you're getting a different pick up set up, the Ibanez has two humbuckers whilst this HB is a close classic strat copy. For learning and beyond, either will be great for you, purely down to taste imo. I've whatch the pacifica video and the 120h or around it (112j , 112vm) are all sweet spot but too expensive for a first attempt to learn (around 275 in italy). Btw i'm looking for HB and look around for a tele or a strato and the conclusion (for me) choose one between this 3: ST-62, TE-20 or TE-52. And the TE-52 is a rip off for fender and other brand around 200-300€ also the TE-52 is the most popular guitar in thomann market. But it's only a POV of a noob :D i love the TE-52 but i never tried the tele style, i owned (back in my 16 yo) an ibanez RG and a Pacifica, now i need to start from 0 again after 12 years of nothing. I've abbandoned the ibanez (not so good for the money) it's a good idea restard from a tele or a strato is better for the more comfortable? I'm sorry for the bad English :P

Hi Cecylia, it's hard to say as I've not played the Samick um1. Just took a look online at it. What I can say is the the hb feels in no way like a cheap guitar and very much has that strat, fender feel and sound. If that's what you're after on a budget then you'll be very pleased with the hb.

Hey bud, aesthetics and necks aside your big difference here is the bridge humbucker on the st 70. A very handy addition on strats, so it's classic (st 62) over a more HSS contemporary set up. Really depends what you're after and your taste.

Hi Kallu, I would say it's somewhere in the middle but a bit chunkier than a typical vintage strat. I have pretty small hands too, short fingers! and would say it's very playable for me. Hope that helps for you.

I have read somewhere online that the neck of this guitar is rather chunky, which is of course not to everyone's taste, especially if you have smaller hands like me. This is like the only thing which keeps me away from buying one, as I am totally amazed by the sound and quality for such a low price, in contrast to a "real" strat.

Hi bud, I have pretty small hands compared to a lot of players I've met and have no problems at all. The neck is a little fatter than on previous strats I've owned for sure. It's down to taste indeed. I'm pretty easy going with different neck styles and have no problem at all with this model. It's very playable.

ah man, that's a tough one. I really like the classic vibe and would probably go with that over the hb, but you can get 3 x hbs for the price of a classic vibe! so often depends whether you get a good one too, I love this one, but yeah if I could have just one guitar and not get to try it first, I'd probably go with the classic vibe. let me try to answer your question. It's difficult to take all these reviews seriously since there's such a huge conflict of interest and the comments are generally biased. Very few reviews - if any - will give you any objective information to tell if the guitar is good or not. And yet they waste the entire video on facts which anyone can find out for themselves. I mean, you have the guitar! You could actually measure the resistance of the pickup and give people an idea of what it might sound like. There's a $26 inductance meter you can buy that would tell you the inductance of the pickup which would mean you would not even have to play the guitar at all ( or much) You could see when you fret the note at the 12th fret whether it is in tune. In other words you could see whether the guitar is intonated and you could try to intonate it and see if it in fact can be intonated or not. You could measure if the distance from the string to the 17th fret is 4/64, which is the spec of a Stratocaster. Instead you simply prove to us what we already know - that you are a great guitar player. And that seems to be what the millions and millions of reviews about all this gear is. And it prevents people like myself who are interested in purchasing gear the information that might help us make a decision. So I hope this answers your question.

Not bad Rythym guitar but up high the lead playing sucks! I could even hear you struggle with it! Yeah, sure some messing and different strings will make a change but the Sx strat copy just wins out for me against the Harley Vs Series.

I've got the same guitar from Thomann, around Jan 2020. I have to say that the neck is the worst neck I have played on any guitars, ever. The guitar came with a twisted neck and the worst sharp fret ends that I have laid my hands on. The fret ends are so sharp that will cut trough skin. The only good thing about this guitar is the body, the basswood resonates nicely.

Hi bud. Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. I guess at that price QC can be a bit hit and miss but that's beyond B stock by the sounds of it! Definitely send it back and speak to Thomann. My experience with Thomann's customer service has always been really positive and the guitar shouldn't be arriving like that. I'm sure they'll ship you a goodun next time!

No offense intended but why is it when people are doing reviews of strat style guitars they go through the "six on a side, three single coil pickups, five way selector switch, one volume, two tone, adjustable vibrato"?? We can see it's a strat.

Yeah, I get your point bud. I think as it's an entry level guitar they'll be beginners who don't know so I do go over the basics for those guys too. I hope you found the vid helpful all the same and wish you a great day!
