I have the 2018 Fat Boy Anniversary 114. Absolutely, love it; just bought the Road Glide Limited; but would not get rid of the Fat Boy. It handles great, of course you have to ride the bike and not let the bike ride you. Agree with the wind doesn't affect the bike.
Good comparison. It is all about personal preferences what you will finally choose. Both are great bikes. I bought my Fatboy 2018 April , and I love it. Before that, I always saw a guy in the neighborhood with his Slim , that Military-look bike with the white star on the gas tank , and it looks great. Talking to him he was absolutely happy with this bike . I’m from Europe (Germany but living and working in Spain) , and I’m 193 cm tall ...6.33 ft I guess . Most of my friends telling me that I’m to tall for a Harley, and I should ride a BMW 🤢. I don’t care ... I’ m simply enjoying that Harley feeling , that no other bike can give to me ( and I owned other bikes before I bought my first HD 12 years ago , Road King) It’s all a matter of what you do prefer. There are always things to complain about, or advantages that one bike ore the other bike may have. Leaning ancle... if you’re a curve ripper , get yourself a Kawasaki .
A great video. When I was at the dealership I met your friend. Knowledgeable. Kind. Just great people at that dealership. This comparison videos ares are great. Please krrp making them.
I got the Slim, since the dealership did not have in stock a Fat Boy. I should have waited and sought out the Fat Boy. Now my dealership now has the 2021 Fat Box in stock. I took my Slim to Stage 2 and was considering Stage 3 later this year. Oh well ... live and learn.
The higher the number on lean angle the farther the bike will lean over. Slim has a better lean angle. Also the Slim has more sidewall which helps to soften the ride compared to the low sidewalls on the FatBoy. The spoke wheels are required to run tubes which is a disadvantage over the tubeless tires on the FatBoy. The tire cost and wear advantage also goes to the Slim. The stock seat on the Slim is not as comfortable as the FatBoy. I don't see the pre-load adjuster as a huge factor for most people. Most people set it for how they ride and don't have to adjust it again. It is more of a factor if you are always changing how much of a load you have on your bike. Looks is a factor that has to be decided by every individual, since everyone has different taste. Also some people prefer black or chrome more. I have an 18 Heritage 114 and I love it. Stage 1 and I often get 55 M.P.G. when cruising backroads. Highway speeds does drop it down some. Definitely love the new Softail chassis.
Hey chief, you answered several of my questions about the Slim. It's one that has caught my fancy real quick! Upgrades for me would be: 1.) The seat😵, I will need something better for long rides. 2.) The tires🏍️, Metzler ME888 marathon wide white wall tires. Vintage, classic & gorgeous!👍 3.) Saddle bags and a better horn-124 decibel sound-bomb horn. 4.) Love that red color! Billiard red-stunning beyond words!😁 I'm glad I came across your video presentation, keep up the great video work-it'll take no time at all to master the craftsmanship of a great job. You're well on your way to that standard.😁👍🏍️ Doug
If you don't own one... Check them both out. Get the one that feels best to you. Forget the price and the dealer. Get the one YOU like and fits YOU. Screw the dealer. Its your..YOUR MONEY. AVOID TUCSON DEALERS. Find a dealer the is independently owned.
I would really like the explanation for how you feel like that the Fatboy is a more comfortable ride than the slim. Is the shock a better quality? Doesn't a low profile tire ride harder? I definitely prefer the Fatboy but I find it hard to believe that an insignificant length difference would make a dominant difference.
I bought a used 2018 fatboy with 114 with vance and hines big Radius exhaust arlen Ness 65 deg air cleaner I've had it 10 months and as it's winter in the ne I'm putting a SS 128 big bore kit in it and a ss 475 cam and a dynojet powervision tuner it's going to be awesome
Bought a new '21 Softail Slim 2 wks ago. I too was looking at the Fatboy, but after watching and reading many reviws, I chose the Slim. The fact that the Fatboy is more work to turn, I didn't want to deal with that. The slim, as stated in this review, is much better with that respect. Plus, I ordered the Sundowner seat from Harley, which makes for a more comfortable journey on any long rides.
I have the 2020 slim I put aps on it and it definitely became one of my favorite looking bikes. At a 107 it really has a lot of power and it’s stock with slips at the moment. I’ll be getting my full stage 1 and tune soon and looking forward to that. I wish I had F-U money and just buy every Harley. Because I’d love to go out and by that fat boy tomorrow then the low rider s than the road king special lol. But the slim is a beast and it looks absolutely sick. In my opinion great video man ride safe ✌️
Thank you so much for this video I'm in the market for one of the other and it's a hard decision which 1 I want to buy this month for Christmas thank you and happy New Year
I am digging the Slim, i have owne all ready two bikes with the 240mm Both Metric bikes, and since metric manufacture isn't really making anymore power cruiser, i am looking at Harley cruisers, to bad the slim got discontinue should of had come with a 114 option power house.
I appreciate your all's video I've been looking at either one of these bikes for quite a while now until I was ready to purchase and after senior video I think I made my decision cuz I am ready to purchase is I think I'm going to go with the Fatboy thank you for your video very informative it may help me to make my decision
You say (at 7.00) that the Fat Boy has a better lean angle because it's less than the Slim? That doesn't make sense surely? On Harleys website, the Slim has a lean angle of 27.4, the Fat Boy is 25.6, and the Lowrider S is 33.1. Surely then, the higher the lean angle the further you can lean it yes? After all, the Lowrider can definitely be leaned over further as it's got mid mount pegs
Good info for people like myself who thought they would have been exactly the same as far as dimensions go. I love classic styling so the Slim-S 110 is the pick for me and I can't stand both the wheels on the Fatty or that tone of red on the Fatty.
2017 Slim..........Tampa, Florida.....Seaside ...Black / Powder Coat -Non-Chrome......./..... Fat Boy 2012.....Corrosion an or Rust....Salt air......in my case. Climate was a factor........Both Beautiful Bikes...........
@@simplybiking I think they went with more of a classic look with the new emblem. The new one seems to fit the whole "WW2 1940's" look that the slim emulates, but I do prefer the bar and shield.
After test riding both the slim felt way stronger so I’m just confused on where all the extras are coming from for the fat boy. I thought I would like the fat boy a lot more and that was the bike I was going to buy until I jumped on the new slim. I had so much fun on the softail slim it’s very maneuverable and still has a decent amount of power to do whatever you want to do
I actually had this decision to make at first I went with the slim wrote up the paperwork and everything, I wanted to sleep on it and thought the slim felt like a chick bike.. so as I was waiting for my salesman I looked at the price of the FLFBS fat boy and it was only a few thousand more. I got the fat boy! I love it and it is my first Harley-Davidson. The seat and the rims are something I wanna change out.
Love the “FatBoy Slim” and “Weapon of Choice” comments… lol! What’s the big difference in riding comfort and steering with the bigger tire in the back?
Being a smaller dude, the fat boy is wider than I need. The slim is comfortable enough. I could see how someone taller/ bigger etc would fit better on the fat boy though. Regarding handling, ull get those folks that say the fat boy handles just as good as the slim, but just from a geometry stand point, that's not really the case with the factory rear tire. Now if you swap in s more aggressive style rear tire, with a higher perch, then yeah I could see how its handling could resemble the slims
If Harley gave us a choice on handle bars for the Slim i'd buy it any day of the week and twice on Sunday's. I just hate those Hollywood bars.......The rest of the bike is gorgeous.
The tires on the slim will handle much better when going into turns . They also will absorb shock from potholes much better than the low profile tires that are on the Fatboy .
I personally own and love my Dyna Superglide. I never like softails. And now that Harley has turned all theyre bikes into softails, regardless of what they're called, I won't be buying another harley.
@@aztriumphster Yes sir! This the THE Viking Bags. We are interested in working with you. Please send us an email at social@vikingbags.com. Looking forward to it!
First of all, nice beard! Second, I’m kinda new to motorcycles and compared to the car world it seems the average height is a bit...less. Don’t take it the wrong way, just curious! Is it just me or is that a real thing? 😅
Ya know, Most the bikers I associate with seem to be of shorter stature, ha ha. I dunno that its a real thing, maybe, but I've met several bikers on the taller side too. Weird tho, now that you got me thinkin about it.
Kept waiting for the part where you RIDE the bikes. If I hear "has that classic bobber look" one more time, Imma scream. And FYI, despite the mantra repeated over and over, this really looks nothing like a WWII Harley (called a WHA-42). When the gov't sold off the bikes after the war, vets and motorcycle enthusiasts snapped them up and chopped off all the extra crap to make the bike lighter (better mileage and performance). So the WWII-style bikes to first make a splash among bikers was in the 1950s was the CHOPPER, not the bobber.
@@aztriumphster wellll.... I’m taking my motorcycle safety classes next month. And getting my endorsement. I’m 6’1 and about 230 lbs. And I felt pretty comfortable holding up the fatboy. But I feel like the slim with a 107 might be safer.
@@mikeleago1 the rider courses are an excellent investment. Theres really not much difference between the 107 and 114. Sure if u were trying to find out if a sportster or a fatboy were a better beginner bike, I would say the sportster but once u break into the softail line, u could really go with any. U have height and weight in ur favor. Biggest difference in displacement a beginner will notice is when they stall it. A 250cc just sort of dies and doesn't react much bit a 114 will give u whiplash if u pop the clutch and stall it
@@aztriumphster Yeah ultimately I’m just gonna wait and see what my comfort level is after I take the classes. Hell... I might wind up on a moped 😂 Thanks for the video and input. I’m soaking up as much motorcycle knowledge as I can!
@@aztriumphster I need to go look at the bike In person then my streetbob will be set hate that they did the 3.5 gallons bike is fast after the stage 1 it'll pass everything but a gas station
@@coletrickle6099 the front and rear mounting points on both tanks are the same as well as the opening for the frame. The major difference besides capacity is the gauge on the slim is on the tank so electronics are being run from the cluster of plugs in the frame to the backside of the tank mounted gauge.
@@coletrickle6099 locking over all the softail tanks, it appears all of the larger capacity tanks have the gauge on the tank. So now swapping the tank becomes more than just swapping the tank. Im pretty sure u can pull the stock bob gauge and still run the stock clamps. The only question is if the stock bob gauge plug will fit a slim gauge and if it will operate the slim gauge.
@@aztriumphster or I was thinking run the gauge delete kit and run a tuner so I'll have a screen and can mess with the settings while I ride I've seen some done cause after I put the 124 s&s big bore kit ill need to keep an eye on things its slowly coming around I just keep messing with the bike I can't leave it alone but the tank is one thing I need
Checkout this video I did with Mykah Dean of Dean Speed Customs. He's riding a 2019 Softail Street Bob and he also owns a 2020 Softial Street Bob. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-spm7m5F0yRU.html He's 6'1" tall. If he fits this well on a Street Bob with mids, im sure ull fit great on a Slim with forwards.
I suppose it depends on a few things. What overall look r u going for and what sort of ride position r u looking for vs your height. Initially I ran a total of 8" rise bars on my '19 Slim to try and maintain atleast a little of the traditional styling and to keep cost low (not having to buy cable and wire extensions). The riding position wasn't great so I switched to 12" bars on the factory risers. It made the ergos great but it also changes the look of the bike alot, which grew on me and I ended up liking.
The only thing that really throws me off is the slim rear tire, without which a slim would be the absolute winner. What's the widest rear tire that can be fit in the Slim without changing anything else?
I checked with Rob, who was the one speaking in this video and he said generically speaking, 1 size on most harleys. I went and looked at my Slim and it appears to have plenty of room for more than one size up.
@@JustAnotherReviewwithAlek send some pictures of the set u bought to the channel email : aztriumphster@gmail.com Ill take a look and see what insight i can give u to help save u a couple hundred bucks.
Why...just why? Waste of time and energy. I'm in Tucson and to me it comes down to dealership. Not the bike. Tucson dealers are owned by RIDENOW. I went to Phoenix to get my slim..in the crate. Complete dealer B.S. You seem to trust and put faith into the dealer and not the bike. Stick with what you know.
@@dionalaniz3195 I highly recommend u ride one before buying. I did another, more recent video where I took one out for the first time. That wide rear wheel makes for an interest ride. It didn't change opinion of the killer aesthetics of the bike though.
