There are some YT vids of folks owning both fat boys (with solid and spokes wheels) and their experiences in side wind so no need to guess if and how much it impacts the ride. :)
I have a 2010 low boy and can confirm that the solid wheels are affected by wind. In strong cross winds you can feel it pushing the front wheel, honestly kind of unnerving in strong enough winds.
I had a 03 Fatboy that I owned for 13 years. I never had any issues with the wind. I don’t believe these guys that claim the wind blew them all over the place. I call BS on that.
I own a 2018 pearl white fatboy that I bought new from WarHorse Harley-Davidson in Ocala Florida. I absolutely love this bike. It's not hard to turn ffs. I whip this bike through winding roads at high speeds and yeah I get that a skinny will be easier but it's a fatboy! Ride it, get used to how it turns. The M8 engine has tons of power too. I have 2 cons that irritate me about this bike and thats the sound and the seat. You need to toss that exhaust immediately and the seat kills my tailbone after 30 minutes. So when he says it's comfy to ride, no it isn't! My 2 favorite pros are engine power and the Showa quick adjusting suspension. I raced motorcycles since I was 6 years old, I'm 46 now. I get compliments on my bike all the time. Many at stop lights asking what kind of bike that is.
I recently sold my 2022 Fatboy and bought a 2016 Fatboy S. I far prefer the look of the older Fatboy and sound of the twin cam Screaming eagle 110. That front end of the newer Fatboy is just horrible imo.
I've got both Harley's. Just sold the 2016, now only riding the 2019. That back tire requires no additional effort to corner... Racing bikes have big back tires and run ovals just fine... Just takes a little tiny bit of practice....
Thank you for this video. I bought an older Road Glide last year over the M8's because of the same reason you preferred the twin cam. It is my first Harley and I absolutely love the sound, the vibrations, the handling and the character. I spent years riding motorcycles with near zero vibration and sound. I bought my Harley for the pure Harley experience! Now I know I'm not the only crazy guy out there! (maybe)
I've ridden since 9yrs old I'm 62. I bought an 02 TWIN CAM 88ci. DYNA WIDE GLIDE. Less than 8kmi. On the clock. Happy birthday to me. Did suspension, new tires, opened the breathing up,(air filter, shotgun pipes) just love it especially for what it is. If I want to REALLY go QUICKLY I have a 71 BSA LIGHTNING. 😎🎶😜
Near zero vibration I can relate to that in bikes I have owned over 50 years. The last being a Pan America Special great bike but not for me and over here in the UK I have just part exchanged it for a 2014 Fatboy and I am loving it. No good having the latest bike if your not happy with it.
@@2wheelsrbest327 what a coincidence! Now this is scaring me! My last bike was a black 2008 Honda ST 1300! I felt the same. Nice bike for neon clad fellows, but not for me (lol!)
Both generations of Fatboy have their pros and cons. If I had the money I would love to keep them both. The reality is the new models always have the advantage in technologies. In Fatboy situation the new model has ABS as standard, keyless, LED, automatic turn signal off, less vibration on handles, etc. Not to mention 114 new motor with much better torque. With that said the new model is undeniably a better bike in general.
Mabe so. Mabe so. However the full 16:46 fenders of the old captures the look and soul of the old Harleys. And the nacelles on the newer one lm sure would grow on you.
I own a Road Glide and I recently test rode a Fat Boy. I was expecting having to fight it in the turns, and I didn’t really have any issues with it. It seemed to me, that I had to be a little more aggressive when cornering, but I never had to “fight” it. If that makes sense? I think it’s more getting used to it, than it is a fight. I didn’t make any continuous turns like a roundabout, but I made several 90 degree turns and had virtually no issues.
I personally own a 2014 Fatboy. I love the bike, very quick, agile for riding around town and good on long distance rides. Had a 2013 Road King before this and miss it terribly! The bags, cruise control, auxiliary lighting. Looking to get another Road King soon. Thanks for the video guys!
The Fatboy ended in 2006, when they put that wide tire on in 2007 it was dead to me. But at least it basically looked the same. This no rear fender look and molded headlight just doesn't work for me. I like the classic retro look from 1991-2006.
Exactly That new model fat boy is like the japanese bikes Nothing speciel about it Automatów turn signals??? Their was from 2006 And up And softails look great but not milwaauke 8
I had a 2015 superior blue vrod nightrod with the revolution motor. And ..... it had right proper slip on, it had the Harley sound unmistakably unmistakably. That was one of my favorite of 6 Harleys. I loved them all but obviously for what the bike was and what it offers rider
Difference between old Fat Boy and new Fat Boy. New Fat owner = Massive, huge improvements, waaaaaay better in every department, beautifully made, superior bike, great lights etc etc Old Fat Owner= I still have the coolest Harley ever made.
I test rode a Fat Boy 110 2016 in Newnan Georgia, went up to 110 MPH and loved it! I went on vacation to Savannah GA. and turned my old 2005 Fat Boy for this one, I would not get off it ever since. I love my Southern Belle.
Let me correct you the old school Fatboy was in movies and has a storied history. The fact that I keep seeing the new fangled , Redesign compared repeatedly to the original Fatboy does not vote well for the new redesign. This new bike is a completely different bike , other then solid wheels and the borrowed logo, it’s just something different. HD should have went with a different name for a total redesign that way you don’t handicap it out of the gate comparing it to the Classic Fatboy.
Can't believe I was watching the video and realized that you were in michigan recently, I bought a New fat boy. Traded in my fat bob.best move I ever made, I love the bike. Didn't get to say goodbye when you left? It seemed really sudden? Miss you buddy,. Roy.
I've never ridden an older fatboy, but I road a 18 with the m8 a couple weeks ago and it's cool but it doesn't handle for shit. I'm used to my dyna street bob and that thing handles like a dream.
@@FalconsFuryHarleyDavidson M8 Fatboys are what they are. Many bikes have their own handling personality. I love my Deluxe. My second choice would either be a Fatboy or RK
The Fatboy is my second favorite Harley. I bought my 18 Deluxe last year for Xmas and I’m in love. That being said I wouldn’t want all the bikes to ride or handle the same. Get use to different things on different bikes, pegs vs floor boards. Sears, handlebars, suspension etc.
@@mudvayne2311 I hear what your saying but sound is all the the pipes. I like the Deluxe as it is. I don’t like ape hanger bars or fish tail pipes. The Deluxe is classic art. The Fatboy has a badass appearance to it. Maybe not as good in the corners but I think the more you got use to it you’d be ok wherever. Good luck in your choice. Ride safe!! Wear a helmet.
I couldn't hear you before you took the baffles out and now I definitely can't hear you afterwards but she does sound awesome... Congratulations on the new bike.
I like the old headlight like on my 98 FLSTF better than that new one the old one looks more retro. I sold both my twin cams this years (01 FLHRCI & 02 FLSTC) and picked up this low mileage 98 FLSTC. I like it a lot and I can work on it myself like my 72 FLH without all the computer junk. You are not the first person I head say they don't like that big tire. i don't want it because it most likely cost twice as much as the tires I am running on my old bikes.
A big rear tire has nothing to do with choppers, and it is not "old school". Ya'll should have compared the newer one to an older Fat Boy that didn't have the ugly fat tire. It's not much of a comparison, like this. The 2003 Model would have been a great bike to use, especially being carbureted.
Seriously. That fat tire bullshit was that early 2000 fad where a bunch of un rideable choppers were shelled out to the yuppies. I think indian Larry when u think old school choppers. Aside from the ones with crazy rakes the old chops could be ridden.
I ride a vmax, and it so happens that such a discussion means little to me haha. From my Harley, I want a bike that feels wild and untamed. M8's are the opposite of that. I fucking hate em, actually. Good motors, of course, but it feels like they're trying too hard to be too many things and they should just try to be Harley's.
The M8 just don’t have that classic Harley sound that the twin cam makes and it’s not even close, Hell a Yamaha these days sound better then the M8 w/ an exhaust upgrade. But HD just lost me on the total remake, I’d rather have a Yamaha!
Even my Slim 2014 (103 cui) felt more torqy than a 107 sport glide. I think the Twin cam is not detuned as much as the Milwaukee line up. Maybe to the strict emission controls?
The M8 Fatboy’s take some time to get the handling down. When I first bought my 2020 Fatboy I thought I may have made a mistake and was upset because I didn’t test ride it. I got the 30th anniversary and there were not test rides on that bike and I just didn’t think I needed to either...loved the look so much of the 30th just went with it. Anyway, on my first ride I was like, hey this is a bit hard in the twistys but recalled reading many reviews say you just had to get used to it and it would become second nature. I have about 300 miles on mine now and I love it and feel like I’m getting it down in the corners. I also have a 2020 RGS and when I jump on it I do feel it is easier to lay into a corner, not necessarily better, just different and I’m ok with that. I will say the Fatboy has me grinning much more then the RG does when out and about.
Dude, Same setup Fat Boy / Road Glide Special (Difference > RGS is a 19). Bought the 30 yr Fatboy 459/2500 - I Did test ride. Yes definitely a difference, but a fantastic cruiser. Have 600 miles on my new Fat Boy and the RGS is sitting, waiting for the long runs, once this shit of a disease is behind us. Stay safe and stay upright! Seee you out there
Hi, I was delighted to read that you love your new fatboy. I myself am considering buying a 2020. I wondered if you had comcidered putting screamin egals exhaust or maybe a stage 1 for more power or are you happy with the bike the way it comes? I had a worry with the chrome _ iv seen videos with bad pitting on the forks. And they got rid off the heal shifter, what's that all about. Love to hear from you about the above before I commit. I love the fatboy
@@danthechippie4439 hey Dan, I have the new S&S Super Street 2 into 1 on order along with a Saddleman solo seat. I hope to get those in the next two weeks. Funny went on a ride with some friends yesterday (220 mi.) And the whole time I was dreaming of being on the Fatboy. The Fatboy is so powerful and exciting and lite it just is down right a blast. Go for it and make sure you set the rear suspension slightly stiffer then the book calls for imo.
Wow men my exact dream i have the 2019 RGS and looking into FB 30th, your my idol, im heading there i got 14cash but dont want a payment im contemplating my move Men y the men Congrats!
Just saw this in 5/24 and had to comment. I have a 2019 Fat Boy 114 and my buddy has a Soft Tail Deluxe CVO with the 110 Screaming Eagle kit. We went to sturgis and my bike is clearly faster and has more torque. Period. Plus, the 240mm tire makes my bike look bad ass. He has tons of chrome but my bike really caught the attention. We were riding in 50mph wind gusts and I was getting blwon al over the road. However, I dont think the wind had any impact due to my wheels. My buddy had a bad time, too.
BS on the 110 running hotter than any other HD ! Ditch the Cat and a good map download and it runs 210/220 in traffic in TX summer. I’ll keep my 14’ CVO Ultra 110 vs M8 with all its head gasket, sump and fluid exchange problems !
Long time Honda VTX 1300 rider here. The only HD I've test driven was an '04 Dyna Wide Glide. It rattled, it vibrated, it shook and it VROOMED me down the road! I've never had so much fun on two wheels. I retire later this year and will get a Twin-Cam HD.
Anyone put raised bars on the fat boy? I m 5’9” .What s a good size that makes longer trips more comfortable? The stock bars kinda hurt my back . I m about to get it in the shop to swap for a12.5 apes. Any feed back that mite help? Thanks
My 2019 fat boy 114 stage 2 kicks ass and I get looks n compliments all day long, and I have no problem in turns. You are comparing a bone stock bike to an SE give me a break. Video sucks
Hate The New Headlight . I am keeping an EVO for sound Potato Potato .I am To Old to Ride Wide open anymore . so Power is useless To me. When i was Young 50 years Old I would always keep one Crotch Rocket . But The sound sold me on a Harley ,I Rode a Knucklehead in 1963 and it never took Speed was king so i was 50 before i Bought a New Harley . Nostalgia .
17:54 "I know the 114 it's a better paltform as far as the engine goes..." Not true, not true at all, the 110 motor has better internal parts (and for that matter, also better external parts like the intake manifold) the 110 is a Screamin' Eagle motor, the 114 is just a regular one.
Ive got a 95 evo fat boy and a 03 tc carburetor fat boy. I love my evo but i barely get to use it because I got spoiled by my stage 3 screamin eagle tc fat boy, man that thing hauls ass! I don’t care about going fast too but the evo is just too slow for modern traffic where torque and power could get you out of sketchy situations. I use my evo on short solo rides and the tc on long group rides. It never lets me down on overtaking. My evo however, i had to think twice before i commit. Theres one incident where a shitty ass old corolla decided to not let me pass and started accelerating when we were side by side. Man if only i had my tc that time, i would’ve passed him even without dropping gears and put bus length gap on him. Like i said, I’m not about speed when riding but its better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it so I’d pick the tc for classic look feel and power if i could only have one. Maybe someday ill add the m8 in my fat boy line up.
Ruining a great platform by putting too wide of a rear tire to appeal to the want a be crowd. I can squeeze a 150 on my 02 FLSTF, bumped it up to a 95 cube, higher lift cams, a Mikuni 42, a Screaming Eagle 2-1 race bike minus the disks, K&N airbox, scarped the floor boards for forward controls, and 18 inch apes. It loves the corners, out pulls the new bikes, and I only drag part of the kickstand now.
Both good looking bikes with style , Harley went further with it with the new one . If I had to pick just one it would be the new bike in black . The older bike is just as good in looks and style and I could see myself owning one if my interest was in one . I almost bought a new Fatboy and that's cause the new breakout has a peanut tank . The salesman showed me their pre-owned bikes and what do you know ........ I seen my love upstairs , she only had 498 miles on her with that sexy 5gallon tank and that big ass all in black and chrome. That 2016 breakout 103 came home
I had a twin cam fat boy for 8 years loved it but it was always a bitch to turn in because the tyres were to fat compared to other softails I had and dynas when I tested the m8 again same pro won’t turn in Kia the front tyre that is too fat I reckon a smaller tyro on the front would solve this
I don’t like the M8 totally redone bike “they call a Fatboy “ it don’t have the flavor or the look. I’m my mind the Fatboy was killed off. Keeping only the solid wheels don’t make it a Fatboy, nor does it look near as good. Yea it’s faster, but if it was all about being faster? I’d buy a fuckin Yamaha, which is as soulful as the new generic namesake, No Thanks!
Great video.. I have ridden both 2013 with a 120 R harley engine and a 114 m8,, i think that the 2013 model looks way better.. U can feel the torque on the 114... And feels lighter...
@The Bouncing Bouncer,, new design looks, New! but need some time 4 a good review.. Can u adapt an auxiliary lights? Or is there a part for it? Keep posting
The simple truth is because people are still comparing the Fatboy to the revamped something else entirely does not votvwell for the new machine and only galvanizes what I’ve already said. HD made a huge mistake stealing the Fatboy moniker after killing off the Fatboy. This bike might enjoy higher sales had it had an original identity and not one it poorly imitates
What happened to that fender? Where's the rest of it? So far I have yet to meet someone who likes the modern styling cues getting f#cked up the a$$ of the old school aesthetics. Pick a lane Harley and see where it takes you.
The problem abt the m8 is that ITS GOT NO SOUL!. I rather ride a Kawasaki than this nonsense. It’s all powerful bla bla. But the thrill of a Harley is NOT there! The thrill is gone
I own an 02 Fatboy and the wheels were replaced due to the look not the wind BUT! Think about this….when a sailboat wants to catch more wind do they put up less sails or more? A gust of wind catches mass easier and with more gusto. Will it be a night and day difference? Way to many variables to get an accurate test but in my mind yes the solid mass catches more wind with the right gust. How can it not? I have heard guys say they can tell and some say they can’t. Why? To many variables to consider with people and environmental situations. How about semi trailers that the wind catches and topples over on the intestate? How many cars and pickups get toppled over from the wind? Would you rather have a small parachute with holes or a solid larger parachute when jumping? Do winged suits that the guys wear while jumping off cliffs and gliding have solid large wings or small wings with holes? As you can tell I’m convinced it has to have an effect with solid wheels.
@@motorcyclemark2889 no doubt it was iconic and you could pick one out immediately from a crowd of bikes. I sold mine and got a Street Glide Special for the comfort and longer rides but I miss the old bike. I may pick up another one as a second bike in the future. If I do it will be an older model like I had.
So I must have imagined been blown by the wind catching the solid wheels when I was coming down the mountain just outside Vegas when I rented one???🤔😂Oh and guess what ( no beer belly). Vibration s🤔 yeah that's before Harley sanitized them. A Harley needs to vibrate it's called soul.
