IrishChris1979, thanks for watching. At the time of the video, I was not aware of the differences between the softtail (103b) and the other 103(a) engines. The "b" engines are mounted differently to the frame and are not interchangeable. They are also internally balanced engines which would explain why the Breakout was so smooth. Although I haven't found any hard data on performance comparisons, I have read many, many posts from riders who report that the (b) engines lack the grunt power of the (a). I just thought they may have been programmed differently or had different cams. Apparently not so. I will look into this more. Don't forget the sub! LOL.
I can't believe you recorded this 8 years ago; it seems like I watched this a week ago. (haha) I truly miss watching your motovlogs & reviews, B. Hope all is well.
Good review. I liked that when you saw problem you had a solution. So many find thing just go OMG and that's it. Want to get breakout myself thanks for suggesting pipes and such.
TaKMan? I'm new to Harley's. I just bought a 2014 BreakOut FXSB with 24K mi on it. My question is the exhaust, I bought Vance & Hines 2 into 1, Because I liked the look more than the 2 into 2. But is there a big difference? performance wise between the two? BTW, I also got the V&H fuelpak 3 and the heavy breather intake along with it.
it lacks the power partly because the 103's on the breakouts are counter balanced motors. threw me off when I first got mine, because it was completely smooth. I was expecting the motor to have the "shake" like a normal harley would. they're really smooth on the highway too.
+Surpluzz I am 29 and from Germany. This year in summer I made my driving license. I rode a Honda CBR650F 2 times. But my big dream is to own a Harley Davidson some day...
I was curious as to your comparison with your Street Bob when you said the Breakout didn't feel quite as quick. They both have the same 103 motor. Oh wait, I was looking at the brochure as I was typing this comment and I see that the Street Bob is 40 pounds lighter than the Breakout. That would make sense that the Street Bob would be a little quicker. 40 pounds on a bike is roughly equal to 200 pounds in a car (on average) which is about 2/10ths of a second difference. Anyway, I really like your videos by the way. I will subscribe after this comment.
Did you get to ride any of the Indians while you were out there at BBB? They had the tour come through Oklahoma City this weekend and I got to try a couple of them out (really only the ones that I am looking at for the future). They make an impressive machine that is for sure.
I saw that Scout you rode. Very unique motorcycle! I wanted to ride the Indians but had to share my time with friends. I was also afraid I would want one! lol
Yeah I want one lol. I am looking for a touring bike and I have a Roadmaster ride coming soon from the same event and it was a hoss. But my wife is not a big person and we have been trying to track down a respectable bike (not a goofy little Rebel or something small like that) that she could handle and the Scout is for sure the answer.
I've owned three new Harleys. Last was a 2012 Ultra Limited. It beat me up for four years, and had absolutely no power, no suspension and no brakes Then I got a real bike. ... BMW K1600GT. I ride a lot in that part of Arkansas. Most fun is seeing how many Harleys I can pass in a row.
You see i like the bike ,mostly the way it looks but i am just curious if it is practical for daily use, and as i live in India (where there is the worst roads and traffic and unruly drivers with no sense of order and dicipline).Or should i concider fatboy if i want to go for the Softtail section. Do suggest your advice?
I didn't really ride it long enough to give you a definitive answer however, I did ride the Soft tail Slim "S" this last weekend. It would be one hell of a commuter for sure! The video is coming in the next few days. Stay tuned man.
I'm 5'9". I was only slightly leaning forward, however it is a little uncomfortable for me on long rides. This was set up very closely to my 2010 Honda Fury.
I don't know how you feel about mini apes and such but they tend to sit you a little more upright and look great too. I have seen photos of the Breakout with mini apes and they look wicked. Just my opinion.
Surpluzz I agree on the Breakout looks with apes. But beauty is in the beholder of the eyes. I was thinking of Dyna Wide Glides or Softail Deluxe bars.
+Tilar Myers Mate, I'm 5 10 and I'm very at home on this bike. But why don't you hire one for a weekend and take it for a spin? That's what I did before I bought one.
I went to buy a 2013 Breakout today with cash in hand....test drove the bike, and it was horrible! Handling, the bars I don’t know what it was but it was just a bad ride. My Victory Vegas 8ball destroys the Breakout in performance imo
