I stopped by Los Angeles Harley Davidson (Laidlaw's) in Covina which is an excellent shop. They do a Sportster Cafe Racer package and have a beautiful sample bike on display. The argument would be which Cafe Racer would you choose out of all the different factory brands? Or do you create your own? I PREFER TRIUMPH!

MSRP is only 11,500 but I got mine for $9000. That bike has a lot of expensive bolt ons out of the Harley catalog so a lot of dealer mark up.

Hate the bars and the lack of a brake light, but love the rest of its aesthetics...especially the paint. Nobody does paint like Harley. The other day, I rode my Thruxton over to the local shop who recently took an XR1200 on trade. Threw a leg over and everything about it is still old skool Harley. Feels like a ginormous steel pig. Clutch is like operating something off a 40's tractor. I wouldn't make that trade under the threat of water torture.

Kind of cool bike but that price tag is absolutely ridiculous.

$20,000?????????????hahahahahahahahaha oh my god!!!! And Harley Davidson is shutting down factories why??? Yeah it’s a cool little bike, no question. There is a reason that Honda is doing so well selling bikes like the new Rebel 500. How can you expect a young guy 20-30 years old to throw down that kind of money. He’s thinking about a family, kids, house, car. That’s why the Japanese bikes are so appealing, because maybe a guy can afford a Rebel instead of dreaming of a Harley. And let’s not even start on those shitpile Harley 500/750 things. What a pile of dog shit those are.

I think you get what you pay for with a Harley and they're built solid. My experience of owning over 10 of the later model Triumphs is like many things, you get that first year Thruxton R for example and it's extremely well built, then they start finding ways to cheapen the deal: enter the new Speedmaster and the suspension is shit (do the comparison, Ohlins!!). It felt quite a bit cheaper to me so some things aren't always equal. I do have a friend with a $25k Harley who is very jealous of me out the door at $14k with my 1200. Basically the corporation knows when to put $ into a product to get that quality name out there to gain early market share. Both companies have some great models right now regardless of build site IMHO.

The Triumph Thunderbird is a fantastic motorcycle and will beat the Harley. If you can get the Thunderbird Nightstorm (rare, it would be I think a 2015) you'd have yourself a dream cruiser to take on all HD's. That said, I'm a fan of big, heavy, powerful cruisers and they're ironically going away for smaller, lighter bikes. Therefore, I would buy a used or leftover Thunderbird here in the States. Lots of deals for here sure and I had one, great, belt driven 1700 beast that handles like a dream. BTW my wife is from Independencia, Lima and we were married in the Cathederal there. Peru is a magical place.
