Harley Davidson has issued another clutch recall for 2018. This is not to be mistaken for earlier year models, and it affects 2017 and 2018 models. For more information, check out the video.

Thanks for the clarification, John. In Canada, my dealer is getting the repair kits late November and have offered to pick up and trailer my stored RK to the dealership for repairs in December. Nice of them to look after me that way! :)

48retrop if it is leaking take it apart kleen it up go to a seal and bearing house and get new seals an bobs your uncle. You guys dont get it harley or anybody building things like this dont make seal and bearings and such they BUY them and they are available from vendors that sell that type of product at a huge savings I might add

Just bought my first Harley in September - a new 2017 ultra classic that I got a killer deal on. Best bike I've ever had so far. Just had 1K service done & the service advisor told me about the recall, or as much as he knew about it. I don't consider it a big deal because every manufacturer has recalls periodically. I am sure the Harley haters will jump on this, but I hope not. I've never heard anyone make a big deal about the frame recalls for the first year of the Honda Goldwing 1800s due to bad welds. Harley still gets beat up for stuff that happened 50 years ago. I love my bike more and more every time I ride it. Thanks for all the info, John. Love your channel.

Guess it is a good thing my 18 Ultra Limited hasn't crapped the clutch yet. Since "Winter is coming" and riding days here in Georgia drop about 15% I guess it will be shop time for the bike. Hope the fix is good and no more clutch issues. Thanks for the info John, I wanted to ride to Texas with you guys but that pesky thing called work got in the way, but I do like paying the bills so I can go riding all year. Keep up the good work and look for me to bring in the Ultra for some tuning next spring/summer.

Another good one , valid point about it not being your local dealer or techs fault ... to many want to take it out on the local dealership. I appreciate the work that you guys do correcting the occasional issues that do pop up. Keep up the good work.

Yes, my dealer took a while to get the part in for the repair. I scheduled appointments twice and had to reschedule. No problem as I was not having any issues with my SGS. I asked my tech if he'd even seen anyone come in with the issue and he stated he hadn't. My Harley dealer , L.A. Harley of Anaheim here in So. Cal., is pretty good at taking care of me when I have any issues.

Buddy we “All” got laid off for winter 2 weeks ago lol ... there is just one service tech up there now that can only do like oil changes , and non mechanical upgrades like cosmetic stuff.. shop is empty 😂

Hah! I was on a road trip out to North Carolina from Kansas City when I found out about the recall. went to the local HD dealership and they told me the parts don't get shipped until November 5th. So....we still rode home to KC, no issues. It seems silly to release a recall and the dealerships NOT having the ability to fix it at that time. Maybe we were lucky, but we had no issues. Will wait til my local dealership gets the parts then bring my bike in for the fix. Thank you John for all the informative videos, keep it up!

Yep, just called Chattahoochee HD and they said the same thing. They ship on the 5th, arrive around the 7th and to call back then.

I work for GM and they do that shit all the time. I'm not sure why but every now and again I'll look one up and it says no fix available yet.

I appreciate your position sir, but think about it. This was a voluntary recall (I checked the HD website). If they had announced the recall the day after I left North Carolina, what is the difference? Also, all the folks affected by this recall, are they going to trailer their bikes to their local dealership? Most likely not. Yes, I agree about announcing the recall right away, but what was I to do, keep my bike 1200 miles away in North Carolina, fly back home (or rent a car), wait 2 weeks, then go back to NC to get my bike? I doubt HD would have paid for that. Maybe it was a gamble to ride it back to KC, but if that recall was really dangerous enough, HD would have not have announced a "voluntary" recall, they would have (or perhaps should have) made it more of an urgent recall.

Thanks for the update John. No winners in this instance and couldn't agree more with your comment on taking it easy on the dealers! Very disappointing that Harley and the engineers involved in the program have let something as fundamental as this and the previous clutch issues through QA. Personally, I paid for a new '18 Road Glide Special and it's now grounded at the dealership for an undetermined period in South Australia. My mate's Ultra was picked up a couple of weeks before the recall so at least he's on the road. Lucky I have my trusty Italian sport tourer to keep me on the road. ;)

Got on waiting list at my dealer and they will pick it up and bring it back. They also said no bikes they know of out of their dealership had this happen. UPDATE: dealer picked up Friday 12 noon. Called next day Saturday and bike done 10:30am. I'm happy. They will also deliver.

John, I love the videos. This is what we all need and actually want. No frills, normal guy videos. Anyways, I just purchased a 2017 FLTRX 107 M8 from a dealer. I happened across the recall by putting the VIN into the HD site to check. It came back as having a recall. How do I find out if the previous owner or dealer I purchased it from had the recall done or if the recall is actually stating that this specific bike to be corrected? Also, I found threads of sumping. They say anything over 10-2017 is good. How do I find out when the bike was built? A few questions, I know, but I have no idea who else to ask. Thanks and keep the rubber side down.

Very cool . Yeah my 16 RG was in a clutch recall. This new recall do it give the ride in sign as in the feel of clutch?? On my 2019 RG this could all be me but it feel like the clutch friction point changes

Thanks for covering the recall. Could you talk about the repair process for the recall in a later video? I am wondering what happens since this is a fluid leak and the fluid could get into the clutch pack and possibly the chain and cause additional issues with those parts.

How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The secondary actuator piston assembly in the recall kit (P/N 91500093) has a lip seal with a different material. Additionally, the surface finish of the piston assembly has been changed. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The updated secondary actuator piston seal assembly was introduced at the start of model year 2019 production.

Good info John thanks. I was trying to research that part. How long does it take to replace the part on bike? Also why do you think HD has issues like this. You rarely hear about other bike companies with so many recalls. This is a bummer since I just pulled the trigger on my 17 RG last year. Keep the vids coming they are most helpful.

Some hydraulic cylinder rubber cup seals and components are not compatible with DOT4 fluid. Some car manufacturers still specify certain fluids for brake services

Paul B thats true my ktm specifies mineral oil for the clutch. You can pay big bucks for it at the dealer or go to the pharmacy and buy a bottle of mineral oil and it is the same oil with out the dye for color

This is a good idea in way more ways than one regarding HDs..pre owned, low mileage,issues addressed,aftermarket upgrades done...why would anyone want a brand new HD?

Having issues with a 16 Road Glide after a routine bar swap. Smh. Little shops get stuck with this kind of problem and it bleeds the profit right out of a simple job and worse yet can end up costing the shop money because typical customers don’t understand who’s responsibility an issue like this is. Smfh. The recall for the 16 doesn’t address the slave cylinder either, just a distilled water and isopropyl alcohol wash for the master cylinder. That was the beginning of these issues being identified and a quick fix to satisfy the NTSB to show HD was at least doing something about it. Such a bunch of crap. Your videos rock though & thanks for keeping people up on things. MLH&R ~

Hey John. Great video. Is is safe to ride prior to getting this fixed? Anything I can check to see if I'm having an issue? Will clutch fluid be low in the master cylinder or leaking from the slave? Anyway to check If I'm in good shape until I have the recall done? Tx
