@@Zeiss120 I agree I only payed $15,795 for my Dyna s that had cruise control and abs standard and it was brand new with "0" miles on the odometer as the battery had never been serviced or the plastic guards ever removed from the battery cables so as I bought it had never even been fired up as about as cherry you can get .. ..and I miss the cruise control and with the fly by wire throttle you would think cruise control would be built in ..and not so much on the last of the old dynas ...but it doesn't surprise me the things that Harley does or does not do ...that has never phased me as being a bike wrench and competitor for 48 years I do my own mods that I wouldn't trust any manufacture to do the things I do anyways...but my dealer ship gave me all my money back and some as I only paid 78 hundred bucks and my Dyna that had exploded the clutch and primary locking up the engine and did not run at all and they gave me a new first one FXDR 114 that is two years newer ..than my blown up trade in ..tada I win again

I have always been a big Harley fan. Owned 3 Harleys in the past. Last year I decided it was time for new bike. I narrowed my choices down between new HD Fatboy, Fatbob and FXDR. BUT then I test rode the new Ducati xDiavel,.........just for fun, and since I always were curious about Ducati. After that test ride, my decision was easy. The Ducati is brilliant, beautiful, packed with technology and performance, and even comes stock with cruise control, etc. etc. etc. From a pricing perspective I think you get more bike for your money than with the Harley. I was also disappointed with what Harley did with the FXDR console. Looks like an old casio watch. They could have done so much more, considering we don't live in the 80's anymore. Why not put a proper TFT screen on it which fits the bike's futuristic and modern look? I do think the FXDR is a great bike, BUT not for the price. So far Im EXTREMELY happy with my Ducati and enjoy every single mile on it. Thanks for your reviews. Keep them coming.

@KIRBOSKI Every other bike, but only name three brands? IMHO, I feel its more important to ride multiple genre of bikes than riding multiple brands of the same style.. GREAT review!!! Loved every minute of it...and you somehow got the best color FXDR too!! LOLZ I look at all these comments and it just makes me laugh. Jumping on Harley for marketing this as a power cruiser...well compared to all other Harleys it IS a power cruiser...is it the same as an inline 4 Japanese sportbike, no of course not...but people who buy Harleys are not that type of crowd. I currently have a Harley Streetglide and a Ducati Panigale 1199R so my next bike will more than likely be something like this or an XDiavel. Every time I say this to someone who doesnt own a Harley, they say the Ducati is so much better...and when I say it to a Harley guy its the exact opposite..LOL. I look at the Xdiavel and I worry about reliability, factory support, cost of being able to modify it to the way I like it (there are next to ZERO dependable Ducati shops near where I live, so when I see all these XDiavels with belt issues and ignition issues it scares me, as with HD I have at least 5 dealers within 50 miles and all of them are reliable). Everyone talking price, the Harley is LESS than the XDiavel S that I would end up buying...and the cost of accessories is WAY less. In my experience a Harley is MUCH more dependable than my Ducati in every aspect. Would I miss the 50 hp or so on the FXDR...probably...but if you think that they arent fun to ride you are WAY off the mark. They make MONSTER torque down low and are EXCELLENT bikes for CRUISING...I didnt say racing or canyon carving or being a hooligan....but for cruising to the local pub and having a great saturday afternoon in the country on curvy roads where you actually want to enjoy the scenery they are EXCELLENT and when you want to jump on the throttle to hear them roar, it can do that too...are they as fast as an XDiavel or a Rocket III, no of course not, but that doesnt mean its not enjoyable.
@angl2375
@angl2375 5 лет назад
RedRider0151 Nice write up, I am also torn between the XDiavel and the FXDR 114. You nailed all the right points on the Ducati thank you my friend. Also I’ve read that the FXDR can do 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds. If true that puts it in the same category as a Ducati XDiavel & Yamaha Vmax. I’m just disappointed that Harley Davison didn’t add cruise control stability control TFT display and some other features that Ducati offers.

Interesting review. A person has to know under which conditions and which roads they will be riding. For someone living in central Europe, I do 90 per cent of my riding in the city, 5 per cent on the motorway, and 5 per cent in the twisties. A machine like this is simply not a viable option. I cannot imagine going through Switzerland on this hulk.
@6tdegrees
@6tdegrees 5 лет назад
Gerhard Symons completely agree, if you’re looking for a commuter through the city streets, you’re looking at the wrong type of bike. Personally a cruiser or “sports cruiser” are designed for travelling on highways or country roads... hence the term cruiser. Although I’m not saying that they can’t be ridden through the hinterlands or city streets, they are still capable, but with higher limitations if you’re comparing to what a standard motorcycle can do.
@BFD15i

I took a 2018 fatboy out for a Demo ride for about an hour on a 32 degree perth day last week and a bit of freeway running. My Bollocks were baking when I got off it. And the M8 is supposed to be a noticeably cooler engine than those before it. 1.9 litre engine for a bike.....? Went well but so it should, and not as good as I expected for 1.9 litres. Up a hill in 6th rolling onto hill I had to down shift as either it was labouring or the belt started to skip. That really surprised me and disappointed me too. My ZZR if years ago on the same hill nearly threw me off the back when I did that.

A farm tractor that does an effortless 80mph all day long. Thats what makes em awesome. Harley does there homework. The gearing of the transmission all that. When ur riding one power is right there everywhere. No revving or fancy shifting technique required. Just give it some throttle. Steep mountain roads. Motor doesent care. Keeps pulling. I know now why they power em that way. Give u a relaxed ride. Killer bike there.

Trying the wrong way! A company going the wrong direction can go bankrupt quick, which is where i see Harley in 5 years or less honestly. They're just making unimpressive, overpriced junk thats not worth the waste of steel theyre made of. They need AFFORDABLE bikes, but they refuse. Kawasaki sells as many 300cc bikes a year as they do all other models combined, Why? Because a small bike costs 4500 and a harley costs at least 20k and probably is not much quicker than a 300 lol. Harley is dead, marked even more so by the electic bike, of which theyll probably sell like 5 world wide haha.

@@williams2652 Well if they operated on the same scale as other manufactures i'd agree, but they sell a pathetic number of bikes compared to other makers. And it'll just be less and less if the prices keep going up and the tech stays the same. Hell the speedo on most Harleys is so cheap looking a chinese mail order bike would have a better looking one and the engines have barley changed in recent years. Instead of stepping up and doing something to challenge the status quo, they just keep making bikes for people who just want a Harley, not a great motorcycle.They're basically the american royal enfield at this point... Just filling a niche instead of answering a challenge to be the best.

Paul Kojack You brought some very valid points and I agree mostly with what you wrote and 5 years I saw Harley in the same light as you. A prehistoric slow moving monster that went against all I stood for in a motorcycle, I did not understand the slow two cylinder , dump, dump de dump of the engine that vibrated to high hell. So what did I do? I bought one a 2014 Low rider and learned what this whole Harley thing is. I get it the vibration the heaviness the low rpm etc. I currently own a Japanese, Italian and a German bike and they are all different, different for roads and weather conditions but this is straying away from our discussion. Please give HD some more time until they come out with their Street Fighter, Adventure bike and Muscle bike to pass judgement on HD but if you grew up to dislike HD no matter what they produce you will always have hate in your heart. There are a whole new group of Harley riders and we are Motorcyclist’s first and HD riders second.

Who would want a digital speedo and tach straight out of 1980? You should be able to check at a glance as you can with conventional analog guages or even the new all colot TFTs. Reading that tiny screen is like trying to read a cell phone at highway speed. I'm sure the aftermarket will correct that. Anybody who buys this will dump 5K on it's aftermarket parts at a minimum, probably more. I'll pass. Oh don't forget, Harleys are not the most dependable bikes and first year bikes always have gremlins.

Why is hp so important? Look for the video where a tracker beats two sport bikes and two trail ones. It is in Japan. What matters is purpose. Also, if you want electronic aids, you might as well get yourself a car or a computer that rides the bike is instead of you, like a choffeur.
@coolvideo28
@coolvideo28 4 года назад
Omar Salgado Hp is important because it helps the bike move faster and when you are riding some times you like to fly and you can’t do that without HP. Even motorcycles with electronic rider aides you can turn them off. I am guessing you don’t even have a motorcycle so what is it to you

So its starts at 22,000 dollars. You put probably another 4000.00 into it with the exhaust and what not's so for the most part, giving some exceptions this bike is priced right out of the average persons range. At least for an all purpose bike. if you have a limited budget this bike will not be on your radar. So, I disagree with your assessment that it will be a popular sports cruiser. It may be highly saught after, But for whatever reason, Harley refuses to sell any type of bike that is price comparable in that class. For the life of me I can't figure this marketing strategy? for the kind of money they are asking for this bike you can get way more bang for the buck. Just my thoughts, Not trying to butt hurt anyone..
@ridewherever
@ridewherever 5 лет назад
Agreed, HD never cared about value for dollar. You pay more for not much in return besides the look of the bike. At 22k you’d figure you’d get heated grips, cruise control, bags, windscreen, heated seat or more power. But you dont get any of that shit on any Softail at that price. The only Softail that makes logical sense is the heritage. Though you’re buying these out of emotion rather than logic. So if youre that guy...i guess go for it? Lol
@pauld.b7129
@pauld.b7129 5 лет назад
Exactly. Even their street 500 and 750 models are overpriced for the segment and just look butt ugly. HD need to make affordable bikes or theyre gonna go under. Everyone loves midsize affordable bikes right now, and its true, If i had 20k id just buy a japanese cruieser and a ducati for the same price as one shitty harley lol. Or any combinations. For the price of a FXDR you can buy 1-brand new crf250 dual sport 1-brand new zx6r and a used 1200 sportster and youd still have money left over. It boggles my mind that american car manufacturers can now make an entire car for less than an HD bike. Makes no sense at all.
@ridewherever
@ridewherever 5 лет назад
Paul Kojack LOL exactly. How is “affordable, value for money” not an apparent answer to HD? Like what? What business degrees do their marketing team and directors have,if any? HD wants to be like ARCH who already copies Nortons business model. Which is exclusivity, premium limited bike runs @ high prices. “Premium” it self means superior quality. HD isn’t superior to any bike or brand. They’re mass produced all over the world with shit performance compared to other brands. VMAX, ROCKET 3, THUNDERBIRD STORM, SUZUKI BLVD M109 , are all better bikes with equal or better build quality at lower prices. HD will release all their new bikes at some point but they will over price again. The market already has those types bikes on lock down. So its not gonna matter unless they price at normal lvls
