Bicycles are a great local transportation option. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles safely. Safe, protected bike lanes and trails are needed to encourage more older adults and children to ride bicycles or scooters. Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Healthy exercise, fossil fuels free transportation and great for social distancing. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly.
I love mine…2 months in to owning and nearly 500 miles on the odometer! Spot on with your exercise assessment…noodle legs after 20 miles! Rush/City Speed
Watching this, I had forgotten that you're a fellow Louisvillian, but I kept thinking "That looks like Louisville." Then . . . duh. I WANT that bike! :)
Good honest review. I'm glad you saw the light. I hope to get one and may sell my 100th aniversary Fat Boy to do so. The HD Livewire is another EV I would like to own.
Other videos have many unfavorable comments about waiting a YEAR for parts, no parts availability, and no dealers to support it. Here in MN our only dealer went bust. It is hundreds of miles to the nearest dealer. If you want one, better buy a second one for parts.
Only few want to afford sth like that. Companies should focus on affordable, minimalistic ebikes: -- Simpler frame (cheaper, lighter) -- Planetary gear hub motor + not wearing out transmission (cheaper, lighter) -- Quality chain transmission (maybe shimano deore) + no hole in frame + easier maintainance (cheaper) I think its possible to build the described ebike for 600$
@Mr Mr I am planning on doing that. I already bought the motor and controller and i have a bicycle frame lying around but i dont have the battery pack jet. They are quite expensive so I may build one myself.
Too expensive and is ugly, get a Sondors fat tire instead. But the benefits of an E-Bike are that is makes it easier for people with knee pain to ride. And it lets everyone ride farther without getting tired out.
Nice bike. Would get one if people did not steal expensive bikes when parked :). Now i got a alibaba 1000w for commuting instead... 1350dollar with shipping and tax 😁
@Mr Mr didn't reference any no name bikes I do however know how electric bikes work they aren't that complicated after all and this bike is still overpriced as a whole package
I ordered a bicycle off of the internet earlier this year and had it sent to the local bicycle shop for assembly and inspection. The shop called me and told me that the rear wheel on this BRAND NEW bicycle was so far out of spec that he had to remove it and place it on a truing stand. When I expressed my dismay the shop owner told me that it was commonplace for the wheels to get knocked out of true during shipment. I would hate to order that Serial 1 and find the same problem. As far as I'm concerned, if the wheels get knocked out of true during shipping it should be classified as SHIPPING DAMAGED and the manufacturer should pay for the repair.
What the actual fuck is wrong with Harley Davidson not putting a throttle on their e bike!!! How can you have a too of the line e bike with no throttle? That's crazy. As soon as I see a nice e bike but hear it has no throttle I'm out
4 years ago in my 50s &@ nearly 300 pounds a great friend tricked me to come to mammoth for an e bike ride with a local. Hiabike with a Bosch pedal assist motor has been mine since 2017. The 5000 miles represents an 80lb reduction in weight. I train for another trip to Ohau for a 300+ ride of that islands perimeter. The ride starts & ends in the Pupaka mountains above Waimiea bay north shore. Justin's trick too $850 out of his own pocket when 2 weeks later I went back to mammoth to get my bike. E bikes are excilletating plain and simple. Rides around step hills usually are done the hard way via off road. But if I'm lazy or in a hurry I take the paved way some times it's funner cuz every bike on the road ahead is the only reason I need to pick up my pace. Sure I once had a road bike with taller gears I couldn't catch to pass because he could top out on the down hill road we were on. ONCE in 4 years!
A sad downside to owning an expensive or collectible bicycle is: After having an accident, police do not have your bicycle towed away as with a car or motorcycle. It's left at the side of the road where someone can take it? Yes even a badly damaged bicycle was taken of mine after an accident. After you've arrived home from the ER lucky to be alive, it's then you realize you'll have to inquire about the whereabouts of your bike only to get dumbfounded looks "we don't tow bicycles". It's easy to understand why bicycles aren't towed, they're not registered, generally not worth much and as such not likely something someone would spend money on to recover. Will this mindset ever change and how is this viewed in countries where bicycle is the most common form of transportation? PS. I live in the 502 also.
@@1718bb I know about the evolution engine. Japanese V-4 tech is better unless you want to talk about the Honda 6's. New Goldwing smokes harleys. U.S. supported harley and harley threw that to the wind. Now it is just another in the crowd. cya
@@1718bb you can quit trying to give me a history lessons, I rode harleys and Buell because -U.S.A. They have always been dinosaurs but at least they had one thing that set them apart, now they are history. And clearly you have no idea what innovation is. Done with harleys and you.
all around very cool, but you better not leave it unsupervised cos people gon steal that, or just the battery. That could be an issue even if you buy a chain, someone will buy a 100+$ tool to get that ~4k$
Excellent and thorough review! Thank you! 😀 Husband is getting Serial1 HD step through and I am getting Benno Boost Sport (cargo ebike). Have you reviewed the Bennos?
Hey Andy! Loved the review...I live in Seattle and I finally got my Rush/CTY today after pre ordering it in December. I had a question around range - Even after fully charging the bike, the max range shown on the display in Eco mode is only 58 miles despite the claim in all their promotions being upto 115 miles. I understand that this is the max range when you ride it conservatively. But I didn't expect the displayed range itself to be something as low as 58 miles right after charging fully. Could you confirm if this is close to the range you see on your bike's display as well after fully charging? I'm wondering if this is a one off with my bike and if I need to get my battery replaced or something.
Where you live, lots of uphill? Then it’s possible to have 58 miles. Or it’s brand new, one of reason too. Ride more , better mileage. I have Lexus e300 hybrid, after 3-4000 miles it became a normal.
Thanks for sharing..I won't be back though..For me (old bicycle courier) , this was not a very good review. It was a "safe"highlighted talking points that sounded like you did not want to discuss the pros\cons like does the Storage container leak ? Gravel in the belts, Adjustability range of handle bars...Almost like a mini sales person.....Well stay safe..
My understanding is it probably could not have regen since it is not a hub motor. Regen is rare on e-bikes. I've heard regen would not save much on a bike,, perhaps it might improve range 10%, not as much as it does in a car, probably because it isn't going all that fast to begin with. I like to coast a lot, silently. Regen is something I wouldn't find appealing in a bike. This seems to be a mid-drive design with gears in the back, that seems fine. Expensive but way cheaper than a motorcycle and a whole lot more efficient! I would consider owning one of their e-bikes but I've had enough of motorcycles and don't need an expensive heavyweight gas-burner.
Ohhhhh. Cwoooool. Make sense. Arggggg, now I want one but it's kinda expensive for us right now HUHU. Well, the main goal is an EV for my own in the future but it would be nice to have an e-bike just to go around the city. That would be cool.
I like ebikes but they have one major down fall. Theft. $5k for the bike so that means insurance which isn't likely cheap. Spend over 10% of my income on a bike? No thank you.
To much money. I like it but can't justify the price. I have a harley sporster that cost not much more it can hit 100 gets 50 miles to a gallon, and I thought it cost to much. Love the idea but the cost is ridiculous.
@@aslye Yes, that’s the camera. But how was it suspended while you were biking? Both your hands were in the bike, and I couldn’t see any selfie rods in the frame. And several of the shots looked like the camera just HAD to be too far away from you to be physically connected! I’m asking because I am honestly incredibly curious about how you accomplished this feat. 😎
Have you checked out Vanmoof e-bikes - any thoughts on that? I like their integrated tech features - the Brose odometer on this Harley Davidson bike is something I've seen on many e-bikes which is a turnoff for me.
Thanks your video. I’m trying to buy this bike few days. Most of hd dealer carry serial1 bike? It’s available 4500$ one? When will be available best one 28 mph? Thanks again. Ps, I bought wing bike few days ago and right away returned it cause quality was really bad.
This review would have been more value-added to be useful had more information been provided on the ride experience based on speed, road surfaces and conditions (including flats and hills, both up and down). I would have wanted to know, for example, if the CVT posed a challenge when riding downhill. The reviewer from Tom’s Guide said that it did for him. In the end, the review sounded more like a Tesla infomercial given the constant reference to your favorite car. And speaking of Tesla, does the Rush/Cty Speed make you type in a password to enable access to the bike?
I know there not made in the USA. 250 watt motor. Wow Really Harley! 750 watt would of been better for the heavy customers 230 pounds a 250 watt motor just will not be strong up the hills. The Broae TF/S mid drive a failure. Specialized bike company had their shares of failures with the smaller motor S model mid-drive junk and the TF junk both of them are unreliable when they hit the 1500 km the weak link is plastic cheap planetary mechanism junk but hey don't worry they give you a 4-year warranty that can never be fixed they just replace it. Your buying the name more than the bike. I mean don't get me wrong the internal sequential electric transmission is nice but they took it from specialized and specialized the better bike same thing just Harley-Davidson's design both them are made in Taiwan! Consumer do your resource and know what your paying for? This is $2200-3000 bike without the name! There are bikes out there with same powerplants for $2600-3000. Made in Asia! But the German made bikes they're built good and you're going to pay in the range of 6 to $7,000 but they're worth it you get what you pay for not crap and not made in Asia. Harley get it right this is your first ebike you will experience failures, major ones the Brose mid drive was not the one.
This bike is way over priced for what it is, there’s no way it will even hit 60 mile range let alone the stated 115 or 125 miles, you didn’t even mention what your test range was, I wouldn’t spend a dime on this bike, take a look at the Lectric 2.0 at $999.00 that’s a better bike that even folds with fat tires, and No assembly required. I couldn’t find a video that shows actual range of these bikes, also when someone tweeted the company about where these bikes are made, they said a Global Partner, I wonder who that partner is. Fred San Diego Ca.
People keep saying this bike is overpriced, but NEVER cite a specific bike that is spec’d out this well. Let alone have the wire/cable management so we’ll done.
No it is not competitively priced. All that industry is doing is price what customers are willing to pay with maximum possible margins that is overvalued by hype. Except frame design all components are average components made for mass market such as cables, brakes, paddles, wheels, hubs, tires etc. not only that for batteries customer would be tied to brand. I don’t see power of the brand to buy components from vendor passed onto customer. I don’t justify price of these bikes beyond US$2000. FYI Examples of competition given here also overpriced.
@Mr Mr enviolo is $500 installed, bike with Bosch, Yamaha, Brose are in $2000+ range in plenty. Yamaha’s own entry level bike MSRP $2300. Priority bike is a small company that produce all their bike models with gates belt drive, their base model start at $499 even during pandemic. Mass producer like Harley would source these parts at cheaper than wholesale price. How much potential customer should expect to pay for design and brand decal, $500 a piece? I would expect Rholoff internal gear with Brose or pinion gear with high end hub drive,, Magura brakes and top brand lights with turn signal and airzound like high decibal horn at $3700 - $5500 price point.
@Mr Mr As of the past two weeks Best Buy is selling serial1 at 50% discount. This is like Black Friday in July. Also, Ride1Up is selling their Prodigy Model with Brose motor at about S2200, with cassette and no belt drive. Now this is like a price match.
